Teddy Bear Hospital Picnic

How hard can it be to run a students’ union? Find out by trying your hand at being a student union President or Vice-President. The Principal wants an urgent meeting about a student protest that is disrupting lectures, you need to decide how EUSA will save £100,000 next year, and the guest speaker for tonight’s high profile Black History Month event has called off. How would you tackle it? In this session you’ll work in groups to negotiate true to life scenarios.

Come to the Buchanan Institute, Scotland’s first student-led think tank and EUSA Society of the Year 2015 to find out how to turn ideas into action. We will be having an interactive workshop about how to solve society’s problems!

We’re excited to host a picnic for anyone interested in finding out more about the society. This is a great way to meet volunteers and members of the committee who can give you a better insight into what school clinics are like. It’s also a useful chance to have a look at what kind of games we play with the children and what lessons these try to teach. If there is rain don’t worry we will have a plan B and there will be food!

Language Fun with Hocus & Lotus (Parent-and-Child Event)

BSL Taster Session

Gaelic Taster Session

Activity Stations Taster Evening

Did you know that learning languages early in life can be beneficial for your child’s development? Why not join us in this fun language activity based on the adventures of “Hocus & Lotus”, the Dinocrocs. We will act out their adventure, sing songs and make Dinocroc puppets to take home – and have fun with new languages at the same time! This activity is aimed at parents and children between the ages of 3 - 7. Coffee/tea will be provided, but please bring a snack for your child.

Are you interested in language learning? Would you like to explore British Sign Language? BSL has its own grammar completely different from English. Learn about the language, who uses it, and the Deaf culture which surrounds and helps transmit the language. No previous knowledge required!

Would you like to learn more about the Gaelic language? Led by the University’s Gaelic Officer, this interactive session will include information on Gaelic’s history, legacy and culture, and will give attendees the opportunity to learn a few common words and phrases, and even a song or two! All are welcome, and no previous experience or knowledge is required.

CHV has been volunteering with disadvantaged children across Edinburgh for over 50 years, giving kids and students a chance to get out and have a bit of fun! With groups totalling 80 students and 100 kids, we regularily have activity nights, day trips and weekend camps. Come along to our taster session and find out more about getting involved!

Behind the Scenes at the Scottish Parliament

Speed Lingua

Arthur’s Seat Climb

Whether to found a startup company or build business acumen, the Youth Enterprise Conference is a great opportunity for entrepreneurial students to connect with industry experts, with speakers covering marketing, tech and youth enterprise.

Find out first-hand what it’s really like to work at Holyrood! In this session you’ll be able to find out what the staff in the Scottish Parliament do to help the MSPs carry out their work, how they support people in Scotland to get involved and what skills and experience got them to where they are. The session will also include a tour of the Scottish Parliament.

Try out a new language and meet your language partner at one of EUSA’s famous Speed Lingua events! Part of the popular Tandem Language Programme, Speed Lingua is a new take on traditional speed-dating. It is a sociable way to meet new people from all over the world, and to hone your language skills at the same time.

350 million years old and rising to a height of 251m, Arthur’s Seat provides fantastic views across the whole of Edinburgh. On a clear day, even the Ochil Hills beyond the Forth Road Bridge and the Firth of Forth can be seen. What better way to spend a Saturday than a stroll up to the summit? Wear sensible shoes and warm clothes!
