Objectives

13

• Increase accessibility for all to bus and bus stops• Investigate new bus layout solutions• Adapt the capacity to the actual demand• Improve passengers’ satisfaction and the

passengers’ perception of service quality

Passenger Behavioural Simulation

3D simulation for designing new bus layouts as optimized interfaces between vehicle and bus stop, improving accessibility and dwell times.

16

• A simulation case study is defined by a bus layout, abus line (a set of successive bus stops), a population(passengers boarding and alighting the bus at eachbus stop), and the operator’s parameters for the line(boarding through any door, ticket validation, etc.)

• 8 “types” of passengers have been implemented, based on the “Personas” defined in the former EBSFproject.

• As simulation results, the tool provides the dwell time, the seat time, exit time, and the satisfaction.

Page 20: European Bus System of the Future 2 - kollektivtrafikk.no · Umberto Guida, UITP. European Bus System of the Future 2. 2 Advanced solutions for improved efficiency and attractiveness

Rationale

23

• No major change of the bus design and status in the last 10 years except for some specific bus categories (BRT, micro-buses).

• Very limited design innovations in comparison with other vehicle categories (private cars, tramways, scooters).

• Low acceptance of buses by some local authorities.• No distinctive design for Electric buses.

The energy transition is a key opportunity to changethe bus beyond its technical transformation:

• To serve a better customer experience

• To obtain a status upgrade for the local authorities
