Learning Objects

“A collection of content items, practice items, and assessment items that are combined based on a single learning objective"

Learning Objects

• Learning objects are a new way of thinking about learning content. Traditionally, content comes in a several hour chunk. Learning objects are much smaller units of learning, typically ranging from 2 minutes to 15 minutes.

• Are self-contained – each learning object can be taken independently

Learning Objects

• Are reusable – a single learning object may be used in multiple contexts for multiple purposes

• Can be aggregated – learning objects can be grouped into larger collections of content, including traditional course structures

• Are tagged with metadata – every learning object has descriptive information allowing it to be easily found by a search

Instructional Plans

1. Gather information on any important Situational Factors;

2. Formulate the learning Goals for the course;

3. Select the Teaching/Learning Activities needed for the goals; and

4. Formulate the kinds of Feedback and Assessment needed.

Instructional Systems Design

Created to determine the feasibility and desirability of developing an instructional solution to a “problem”. There are number of models out there that focuses not only on classroom set up but also to product and system.

Known as ISD or ISD Model

Instructional Design Process

Instructional design can be also described using the process involved. At the most basic level, the following are the questions needed to be answered:

Where are we going?

How we will get there?

How will we know when we have arrived?

Instructional Design Process

These questions can be translated to major activities. The following activities are:

• Perform an instructional analysis.

• Develop an instructional strategy.

• Develop and conduct an evaluation.
