History of Indian Power generation

First hydro power plant in India: 130 KW -1898-Darjeeling.

First Thermal PP in India: 1000KW–1899- Calcutta (Kolkata).

First Hydro plant in Karnataka: 17200 KW -1902- Shimsha Hydro Electric Project (Kunigal Taluk of Tumkur district). Three years later Bangalore city got electrified. 2

a) First 200 MW TPS was Obra TPS of Russian (LMZ) design commissioned on 1977.

b) First 500 MW TPS was Trombay TPS commissioned on 1984.

c) KWU units started in India from 1983 onwards with higher steam parameters and improved heat rate.

d) First super thermal power station: 2000MW capacity is -Singrauli Super Thermal Power Plant (UP) – 1987.

e) First UMPP project - 4000 MW (UMPP)-Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL), Mundra Port, Gujarat -2012

Environment Development

Sustainable Balance

Sustainable development means living on Earth’s income rather than eroding its capital’& keeping the consumption of renewable natural

Resources within the limits of their replenishment’ 18Email:[email protected]
