It was a lovely service conducted by Fr O’Reilly. A significant thank you goes to Mrs Hinton for preparing the students in class to receive the sacrament, Ms Hale for her preparation and organisation of the ceremony, Mrs Langtry and Mrs Ridley for their organisation of the music and to the parents who graciously gave their time to assist with the morning tea after the ceremony. Stage 3 students had a wonderful time on their excursion to Ballarat last week. The students returned to school this week with many exciting tales of their adventures in Victoria. We are proud of the behaviour that the students displayed in this public environment where they were wonderful ambassadors for St Joseph’s. Yesterday Oscar Perrot and Alicia Donohue represented the Wagga Diocese at the MacKillop Athletics carnival in Sydney. Oscar finished seventh in the 8 year boys 100 metres and Alicia finished eighth in the junior girls shot put. Congratulations to Oscar and Alicia on both of these fine performances. This Friday we will be having a Footy Colours/ Sports Colours dress day. Students are able to wear their favourite footy or sports colours. If students do not want to wear these colours then normal mufti day dress is allowed to be worn. Students are to bring in a gold coin donation which will go towards the Catholic Missions. The students in Nagle house celebrated being our champion house from Semester One with a pizza lunch on Tuesday. All students thoroughly enjoyed the lunch as it was a reward for their hard work in the first half of the year. St Joseph’s was treated to a performance by the Catholic Inter-Primary School band on Tuesday. Under the baton of Clare Brassil from Kildare this band rehearses weekly and three St Joseph’s students: Isabel Hogg, Miriam Granger and Rose Granger are currently members. Application forms are available in the school office if your child is interested in joining. We hope all families have an enjoyable, relaxing and safe holiday. A reminder that school returns on Wednesday 7th October Yours in Christ, Paul Spain Assistant Principal Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of His promises. Amen

P and F News We are running a major raffle this year with great prizes available. We have now sent a book of tickets home with each family and encourage you to sell your book of tickets. We would appreciate your support in this raffle as it is our major fund raiser for the year. If you would like another book of tickets, please contact the school office. We are now looking for volunteers to sell tickets in the Marketplace on Saturday 19th September from 9-5pm. Time slots are in 2 hour blocks and we need 2 parents per time slot. If you are able to help at anytime during that day, please email the school or contact Maryanne Bradshaw on 0428034025 if you are able to assist and nominate your time. The more tickets we sell and the more money we raise for our school.

Tuckshop If you are able to help on any of the following days please contact Kathy Gaffney (0422 493 879) or the school office as soon as possible. Monday: 26th October 2nd November 23rd November 7th December If we do not have a volunteer for these days, the tuckshop will not open. We are also in desperate need for some more Friday volunteers as two of our volunteers have work commitments and can now no longer work on a Friday. If you can help—even if it is only one Friday in the term, please contact the school or Kathy Gaffney.

Pickup Zone We have been having discussions with the Planning and Regulatory Services at Wagga City Council to try and make our afternoon pick up zone safer for families. One suggestion that the council are investigating is to extend the length of the pick up zone so that there is room for more cars at one time. We will keep you advised of the outcome when we are notified by the Council.

Skoolbag App We are in the process of creating a calendar of events on the Skoolbag app. We will list all upcoming events on the calendar so parents can be informed well ahead of time as to when these events are occurring. Check it out on your app. We hope that by now most of our families have downloaded the Skoolbag App to their electronic device. It is a great way for the school to keep parents/guardians updated on what is happening in the school. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/st-josephs-primary-school/id957259355?mt=8 http://www.skoolbag.com.au/app/admin/parentinstructions.pdf

Congratulations to Rodrigo and Helen Vargas Illesacs and Sofia (KR) on the arrival of their baby girl. We know she will bring you much joy.

From the Office—Mrs Nielsen As spring has arrived, so has hayfever! If you know that your child suffers from hayfever or other spring allergies, it would be much appreciated if you would supply medication for the relief of the symptoms. We do not have any medication that we are allowed to supply to children if they come to sick bay with symptoms such as sneezing, itchy eyes or rashes. Any medication supplied by parents is kept in the sick bay for use by their child if symptoms flare up while they are at school. We also require a completed medication form which can be found on our website or in the office foyer. We have lots of grass and trees in our school that can contribute to allergy symptoms.
