We have invitedthis Police Officer back to Norville State School to talk to ourstudents about behaviour and bullying. We are currently waitingto confirm a date.

GRAFFITI WALL

We have been fortunate to have Jamie Kirby, who is a graffitiartist, working with students this week to create a wall basedon our three new school rules.

The wall is situated in the undercovered area at the end ofB Block, which is the Year 3 block. Montana W, one of ourschool captains has been the main organiser of this project. Aspart of her leadership responsibilities as Captain, Montana wasrequired to identify a project to focus on for 2018. We haveadapted Montana’s project to incorporate our new school rules.Thank you Montana for your great work!

SCHOOL PARKING & DROP OFF ZONES

There has been an update with the parking and drop off zonesaround Norville State School. A Bundaberg Regional Councilmember visited Norville School last week for a discussion withSchool staff and a member for Department of Transport. Thetopic for discussion was our on-going concerns regarding trafficissues around the school and how they may be improved. TheP&C Association have been asked to write a letter requestingadditional parking on the other side of Dr May’s Road. This iscurrently a No Parking Area and we are unsure if this will beunlimited parking.

There was also discussion regarding putting a drop off zoneat the front of the school, but the logistics of this need tobe determined as we currently have a bus zone out the frontof the school. Please be assured that the school is workingclosely with the P&C Association, the Regional Council andthe Department of Transport to make positive changes to thesurrounding area for the benefit of our students.

REMINDERS:

PBL – POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FORLEARNING

Well what a wonderful couple of weeks we have had at NorvilleState School with PBL. It was lovely to see so many studentswalking safely and following the rules at eating time. Our weeklyfocus has had a positive impact on student behaviourthroughout the beginning of the year.

Week 7 – Playground BehavioursWeek 8 – Bullying - No Way

Friday 16 March will see Norville State School participate in theNational Day Against Bullying. We have a whole school activityplanned for the day and classes will be taking part in activitiesthroughout the week to help stamp out bullying.

Keep an eye on our Facebook Page and future newsletters tosee the wonderful events will be taking place at our school tosupport the government message on “Bullying - No Way”.

Thank you.

REFLECTION ROOM AND SCHOOL SPORTNorville State School’s Reflection Room is a space wherestudents reflect on their inappropriate behaviours.

Students will be sent to the Reflection Room by a teacher orAdmin member if they display behaviours that go against ourcore values of Safety, Respect and Learning.

Students complete a Reflection Sheet (with a teacher) andreflect on their behaviour. Once this form is completed it isrecorded on OneSchool and parents may be contacted.

The Reflection Room gives students an opportunity to reflect ontheir behaviours and hopefully to change these behaviours.

Friday afternoon Interschool Sport representation is a privilegeat Norville State School. Students leave the school grounds andproudly represent our school in a variety of sports. Students

should display Norville State School’s core values of Safety,Respect and Learning to earn the privilege of attendingInterschool Sport.

Due to the safety of all students and the fact that InterschoolSport is a privilege, any student who has been sent to theReflection Room twice in the same week will not be able toattend Interschool Sport for that particular week.

During Friday sport, the Reflection Room will be the spacewhere students will be required to further reflect on theirbehaviour for that week. In some circumstances, certainbehaviours may warrant an automatic withdrawal by theAdministration team, from all Interschool Sport. If a student isnot allowed to attend Interschool Sport, parents will be notifiedprior to the event.

ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONCEREMONY

Our 2018 ANZAC Day ceremony will be held on Tuesday 24April at 9:00am in the Kirk-Wood Sports Centre.

Norville State School’s ANZAC Day Commemoration is a proudannual event which provides students with the opportunity toexperience the traditions of ANZAC Day, including wreathlaying, minute silence, The Oath, The Last Post and Reveille (notTwo-Up).

For the 2018 ceremony our school leaders will focus theirpresentation on The Armistice and the end of WW1Centenary.

Community Link badges (example pictured below) are worn bystudents who have relatives or ancestors who have seen armedservice for Australia.

THESE BADGES ARE ARRANGED THROUGH THE RSL.

Many Norville children have been involved inthe Community Link Program. Newrecipients this year will again receive theirbadges during our ANZACcommemoration. The purpose of the RSL Community LinkRemembrance Program is to encourage youth and adultparticipation in RSL traditions and community involvement inparades and ceremonies.

To become involved in the program, the student or adultresearches their own family history and may then apply toparticipate in the remembrance of a deceased relative who wasa member of the military and served in the defence of his/hercountry. The deceased veteran need not have served in theAustralian Defence Force, as many of our earlier generationsserved in the British Forces or other Allied Forces.

Minimum information required on the deceasedveteran’s military service is as follows:

Other helpful information required, if available, is:

Copies of the application form are available from theSchool Admin Office. You also have the option of printingthe application form from the link below. Completed formsneed to be handed in to the Bundaberg RSL, Quay StreetBundaberg . Processing may take some time so it would bea good idea to apply now in preparation for ANZAC Day.

QUILLSQuills is all about writing - so this week the spotlight was on“show, don’t tell”.

If you don’t know what “show, don’t tell” is, it’s when you writeor say something without actually writing or saying it directly.

An example of this would be “a pale tear rolled down Mat’scheek followed by many more”. What we had to do was changea boring sentence like - Mat was sad - into an amazing show, don’t tell sentence.

This was all quite enjoyable for the group. We had somefabulous sentences. Some of us used personification, suspense, noun groups, adverbs, rhyme, alliteration and somuch more.

We have such an amazing group of writers who are having somuch fun. We are looking forward to writing so much moreduring the rest of the year.

FINANCE NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

REMINDER:

When allowing your child/ren to participate in activities at schoolyou are reminded that payment for such activity needs to bemade in a timely manner.

The preferred payment option for Friday sport is “full paymentup front”. However, students are able to pay their requiredamount each week - preferably paying on a Wednesday orThursday, as the office is very busy on Friday mornings.

ADJUSTMENT NOTE:

PAYMENT IS NOT REQUIRED ON AN ADJUSTMENT NOTE!Adjustment notes are a credit which has been raised against aninvoice on your student’s account. This usually happens if yourchild doesn’t attend a scheduled event.

PAYMENT OF INVOICES:

Education Queensland’s preferred method of payment isthrough BPOINT, which is an online credit card payment facility.

BPoint is a very simple process which allows payment toautomatically be allocated and receipted to your child’saccount. There is no minimum payment amount.

If you have your Invoice electronically it is easy to make yourpayment. In the bottom left hand corner you will see theBPOINT box noting your CRN number and the Student’sInovice Number. If you simply click on the web address listed atthe bottom of the box the system automatically takes you intoBPoint, and you are only required to enter the amount you arepaying! Very Easy!

If you are uncomfortable with this process, we are happy toaccept payment at the front office or by direct to bank deposit. If paying by direct to bank deposit, please ensure that StudentName and Invoice Number or Activity (eg. Touch) are listed.Details for this process can be obtained from the front office.

SECOND HAND UNIFORMSWe always welcome donations of unused uniforms and weappreciate your generosity! Thank you to those families whohave kindly donated their “out-grown” uniforms to our school.

If families have any second-hand fleecy tops or black track suitpants that are no longer required please consider donating tothe school! They would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

SCHOOL ADMINISTERED MEDICATION –MUST READ

NEW DEPARTMENTAL GUIDELINES:

OVER-THE-COUNTER (OTC) MEDICATIONS

The Department recognises that all medications, includingover-the-counter (OTC) medications, e.g. paracetamol oralternative medicines, may be drugs or poisons and may causeside effects. As such, schools are required to receive medicalauthorisation from a prescribing health practitioner (e.g. doctor, dentist, optometrist, but NOT a pharmacist) to administer anymedication to students, including those boughtover-the-counter.

Whilst parents may administer OTC mediations to their childwithout medical authorisation, they are aware of the child’scomplete medical history, and are able to provide ongoing, direct supervision for the course of the child’s illness. Due tothese circumstances, a parent is also more likely to recogniseif their child is having adverse effects and requires immediatemedical attention.

The student’s prescribing health practitioner also has theknowledge of the child’s medical history to determine theappropriate OTC medication to administer and is therefore ableto determine dosage and provide advice regarding potentialside effects or interactions with other medications.
