Eliza Vlasova is a costume, fashion, and jewelry designer who graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Fiber and a concentration in Experimental Fashion. She grew up in Ukraine, Canada, and across the United States before moving to Baltimore, MD. Her work has been shown at fashion shows and galleries in the Baltimore and DC area as well as in multiple productions with the Baltimore Rock Opera Society and Single Carrot Theatre. Her work is notable for its tactile quality and the attention to detail, as she carefully chooses the materials and techniques used to craft her intricate garments and jewelry.

Multiplicity, Eliza Vlasova’s thesis collection of garments and jewelry, stems from the exploration of why certain textures, patterns, and geometric principles recur in all living forms, and especially their influence on architecture and design. Nature organizes itself into patterns that often rely on symmetry, web-networks, and fractal scaling to create

resilient systems that support growth. Her work is informed by these principles of resiliency and the organic systems of connectivity that are present in all aspects of life and landscape.

Her collection seeks to show how naturally-occurring structures and patterns can translate into beautiful forms on the body. Her process of making mimics nature’s way of building on itself, using seams and detailed design work as a way of following the architecture of the female form. It is guided by experimentation with metal and fiber techniques and how

they can interact with each other. Through small detail and line work, each garment connects the body to the natural and architectural space.

Most garments in this collection are made using natural fabrics such as cotton, silk, and wool. All the leather is sourced from discarded scraps. Each garment features exquisite details that catch light beautifully, such as machine embroidery, crocheted wire, hand sewn beads, rivets, and 3D printed forms treated with metal. The colored fabrics and yarns are all

hand dyed, creating unique ensembles that celebrate the nightfall.

The production of this collection encompasses a diverse set of techniques including fabrication, casting, and laser cutting. It includes limited edition skeletal designs inspired by gothic architecture, which can be customized with each

order. I also create one of a kind designs that are cast in bronze or sterling silver, achieving fluid biomorphic forms that are polished to perfection.
