Eliza Graves

Eliza Graves is a screening of a story that was written by Edgar Allan Poe. This was the only thing I knew before watching it. Then the cast seemed to be good, with well known actors (Kate Beckinsale, Jim Sturgess, David Thewlis, Ben Kingsley, Michael Caine, Jason Flemyng, Sophie Kennedy Clark), but the trailer didnt tell much about the film. I really didnt have any expectations.

The film has a victorian atmosphere that is highlighted in an interesting manner. Officially, a young doctor named Edward Newgate comes at the Stonehearst asylum in order to learn new methods for treating patients that are mentally disturbed. But nothing is what it seems to be. The things that happen after are interesting and some of them are also disturbing. The screenplay is the strenght of the film, the story itself, the changeovers, the end are exquisite.

The actors interpretations are very well done, Jim Sturgess and Kate Beckinsale stand out. I have to point out that the film is very impredictable. I may repeat myself, but nothing is what it seems to be. There are a lot of plot twists. Thats what I like about this film. The music isnt of a let-down. It has original soundtracks. The songs are appropriate for the situations.

What I didnt like is the fact that it has pretty violent scenes. The lack consists of the emotional part. In some scenes the so called patients are brutally treated. It truly makes you wonder

I can assure you that no one preempted the end. At the beginning the film seems quite simple and boring, but after that the truth reveals itself. The ending is just unexpected. I have to say that the ending is a happy one, after all the struggle. You should try watching it if youre into good thrillers.
