Design used: Elegant Poinsettia Border - Sm Finished size: 2 1/2 inches long by 1 3/4 inches wide

First we will embroider the design. Cut a piece of fabric (we used home decor faux suede) a bit larger than your hoop (8 inches by 8 inches for our hoop)Then, spray a piece of cutaway backing with temporary adhesive and smooth the fabric on top. Hoop the fabric and stabilizer together.

Attach the hoop to the machine and load the design. We rotated the design so that it will sew vertically in the hoop. Doing this will allow for more fabric around the design for easier construction later on. Embroider the design.

When the design has finished, unhoop the fabric and trim away the excess stabilizer on the back of the embroidery.

Measure and mark one inch out from the outer edges of the design on all sides (make two marks on each side). Draw lines to connect the marks.

Cut out the shape. To prepare the inside fabric for the ring, lay the embroidered fabric on another piece of fabric, trace the shape, and the cut the fabric. Align the pieces together, right sides facing, and pin in place.

Sew a 1/4 inch seam along both long sides and one of the short ends. Leave one of the short ends open for turning.

Turn the fabric right side out and then turn the open end in 1/4 inch. Top stitch a 1/8 seam along the open end and along the other three sides.

Align the short ends of the fabric together and hand stitch them in place with needle and thread.

To further decorate the napkin ring, you can add craft thread and ribbon accents. Using a tapestry needle and some craft thread, sew about 3/8 inch long whip stitches (1/4 inch apart) on each end of the ring. Start stitching at the back seam of the ring.

Starting at the back seam, thread 3/8 inch ribbon through the needle and add the ribbon under the stitches.
