Edney Edition Term 3 Week 7 5 September 2019 The Edney Way - Respect and Excellence Its been a busy couple of weeks, with lots of excitement, building to our amazing Faction Athletics Carnival tomorrow, which, I hope I dont jinx it, for the first time in years looks to be the most magnificent weather. I hope to see you there, supporting the team and wearing the colours proudly. ONE BIG VOICE It was with great pride that I sat in a completely sold- out Perth Arena last Friday to experience the incredible spectacle that is the largest gathering of voices in Australia. Edneys Senior Choir, under the expert guidance of Ms Reynolds were more than heard among the 4000-strong One Big Voice crowd. Our Choir looked and sounded fantastic, and it is a tribute to their hard work, rehearsals, and parent and staff support over many, many months. FACTION ATHLETICS The big day is upon us, and the question of which faction reigns supreme will soon be answered. The weather looks great, the students have trained, and now its down to a display of colour, sportsmanship, skill and the Edney Way, as our community comes together for a day of friendly and fun competition. Dont forget that Faction colours are the dress code, from head to toe, cheer your heart out, and may the best team win. Events get underway promptly from the commencement of school. If you forgot to pre-order your lunch, the P&C have you covered with an all-day Sausage Sizzle. SCHOOL BOARD The School Board this week approved our proposed school development days for 2020, which will follow the same pattern as we have this year. Full dates and the school calendar for 2020 will be published prior to the end of this year to give parents as much notice as possible for planning. The Minutes of this and all School Board meetings are housed on the Edney Primary School website for your information. We currently have one vacancy on the Board for a parent representative. The School Board is the peak advisory body of the school, providing input into the governance and direction of the school. Board Members are elected to serve a term of up to three years. Should you wish to nominate for the parent vacancy, please do so in writing to me at [email protected] no later than Friday 13 th September. Elections will be held if required. From the Principals Desk CLASS PLACEMENT Were planning our classes for 2020 and parents have an opportunity for input. You are invited to make requests for consideration in class placements based on educational reasons in writing to me no later than Friday 8 th November at [email protected]. Before making your case for consideration, please familiarise yourself with our class placement policy, available from the Edney website. INTERSCHOOL ATHLETICS On Friday 19 th September, Edney Primary School will host the 5 primary schools of the Darling Range Learning Community for the Interschool Athletics Carnival. Were hoping for a sensational day weather wise, and a great show of sportsmanship and competition from our school team. Parents are most welcome to join on the day and support the team. A special carnival lunch order menu will be distributed next week, which will be the only menu available on the day, whether students are competing, or in class as normal. SWIMMING LESSONS Swimming Lessons for all students from Pre-primary to Year 6 will be held in Weeks 3 and 4 of Term Four, commencing on Monday 28 th October. We will be having the complete series of 10 lessons this year, held at Belmont Oasis. The P&C have generously subsidised the cost of swimming by $10 per student bringing the cost to families to just $40 per child for the series. Consent and enrolment forms and lesson information will be distributed prior to the end of this term. EDNEY DAY The Edney-ist day of the year is just around the corner – and we would love for you to join in the fun and activities that are Edney Day – a celebration of our 30 th birthday and all things Edney. Full details will be coming home in the next week, but, for now, please put aside as much time as you can between 11am and 2pm on Friday 27 th September. ONE BIG VOICE

YEAR 6 CITIZENSHIP PROJECTS

IMPROVING ACCESS TO PARKS Hi my name is Zailie and as part of my Year 6 citizenship project I have been busy writing letters to our Prime Minister and our Local Government about the need for all ability parks in our area. Over the past few weeks I have been very busy with meetings and road trips with a few of our local councillors talking about and playing at some of WA's best all ability parks and giving my opinion on what is needed.

As some of you may be aware i have a physically disabled sister which makes playing at our local parks hard due to her not being able to use most of the play equipment without the help of my mum, so this is for my sister and all the other kids out there that have disabilities and cannot do what I can. I would like to take this opportunity to ask the families of the children at my school for any feedback and also what you would like to see at our local parks – if you have any ideas, please email the school at [email protected] RSPCA

Indulge your sweet tooth and donate to a worthy cause for all creatures, great and small. We’ll be out and about at the Faction Carnival with lollies and donation tins to support the RSPCA. A big thank you to the Graduation Committee who have donated the lollies to assist with our fundraiser. Tahlia and Alexis.

SAVE THE CHILDREN—DONATE BOOKS

The books will be donated to Save The Children where they will be sold for money to help kids all around the globe. There is a collection box in every classroom. The boxes will be collected in Week 10 Thursday. All books must be in a suitable condition. Thank you, from Sai Charan, Rylie and Tim.

UNHCR

For my Citizenship project, I am collecting donations for the UN High Commission for Refugees. There are collection boxes in classrooms across the school. If you have any spare change, please drop it into the collection box. Thank you, from Lola, Cheyenne and Cody.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made the Fathers Day stall possible. We hope you had fun and all dads received a well thought out present to celebrate the wonderful day.

Another big thank you to all of the parents who made food and gift contributions to the Principals day. It was nice to celebrate both P&C day and Principals day together. Special thank you to Ms Carlshausen who helped with a lot of the organising and gift ideas. This week the P&C are preparing for our Faction Sports Carnival. We hope to see you there and look forward to seeing our children participating in the day’s events. Our tent will have prime location so if you want to be warm and have the best view, cosying up to a gas bbq wielding some tongs and cooking some sausages might not seem like such a bad idea. Please put your name down on to our list on the Edney Parents Facebook Page or you can email us at [email protected] we would never turn away a willing set of hands. P&C meeting is next week Tuesday 10th 6:45pm prestart, kicking off at 7pm. We would really enjoy having new people on board, with new ideas or old ones. Everyone is welcome.
