Edney Edition Term 3 Week 5 22 August 2019 The Edney Way - Respect and Excellence It is great to be back, after a little over two weeks off due to a nasty appendix, which is thankfully, no longer a part of me. I am fortunate to have such an excellent team at Edney that my absence may not have even registered for many of you. With that said, I am very happy to be back, and hope that I can get back on track to restore my old record and have at least the next 17 years without a sick day. P&C THANK YOU AND SCHOOL PRINCIPALS DAY In my absence, a couple of days passed us by, including P&C Day WA and School Principals (and Deputy Principals) day. This morning, at assembly, we shared with the school community a tribute from our Choir, who sang Count on Meby Bruno Mars (except we did it better), accompanying a slideshow of just some of the countless ways that the P&C have contributed to the resources, opportunities and facilities available to the children at our school. It was also a most pleasant surprise to have myself and our two amazing Deputy Principals receive gifts and, most treasured, a booklet of pictures and messages from each child in the school. LIBRARY OFFICIALLY OPENS The finishing touches have been put on our refurbished library, which was relaunched to our school today. This represents the first major overhaul of the library in 30 years, and was possible due to the success of the P&Cs Magical Kingdom Fair held in 2018. We encourage you to stop by and check out the improvements, and see if you can find the secret characters and symbols that pay tribute to our past, present and future. ONE BIG VOICE Next Friday, our amazing Edney choir will join 4000 children from across WA to form the biggest massed- choir in Australia, coming together for One Big Voice. This is a showcase of our talented students, coming together to sing in harmony and contribute to an amazing sound. It is probably the least expensive, and most inspiring performance you will ever see at Perth Arena, and I encourage you to buy a ticket and come along if youre able. Ill be there, cheering on the Edney team. FATHERS DAY The P&C have organised a stall full of treasures for Dads and we invite all Edney students to visit next Friday 30 th August to make a little purchase of the perfect gift (Senior Choir and Kindy Gold students will visit on Thursday 29 th August). As with all things P&C, From the Principals Desk every little bit and every dollar makes a huge difference – you get both a gift to give dad a smile, and all profit goes back into the school to further improve the resources and opportunities available to the children. SCHOOL PHOTOS Our school photographers will be visiting the school on Monday 2 nd September for Kindergarten Red and Blue and all Pre-primary to Year 6 students. Kindergarten Gold and special groups (student leaders, sports etc), will have their photos taken on Tuesday 3 rd September. On these days, please ensure that all children are in full school uniform – no faction shirts please. Order envelopes were issued from the school last week. If you are having family / sibling photographs, these will be taken before school on Monday 2 nd September to ensure that the children are looking at their best. FACTION ATHLETICS The Edney Primary School Faction Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 6 th September and it will be a great day of competition and fun. Were looking forward to an awesome day and fingers crossed that the weather will be on our side this year. Full details about the day are being sent home early next week, and a program of events will follow. No matter your faction, the most important thing is to show your colours and cheer on the incredible Edney team (also time to start limbering up for the parent/staff/student race). Lunch orders for this event are due to the Canteen on Friday 30th August. ENROLMENTS AND CLASS PLACEMENTS 2020 Our preparations for the next school year are underway. We are full to capacity in Kindergarten for 2020 already. In planning classes for Pre-primary to Year 6 for 2020, Parents are invited to make requests for consideration in class placements based on educational reasons in writing to me no later than Friday 8 th November at [email protected]. Before making your case for consideration, please familiarise yourself with our class placement policy, available from the Edney website. No requests for individual staff members as classroom teachers or assistants will be considered. Our school structure for next year will include a Year 2/3 class, and Year 5 and 6 in 4 mixed Year 5/6 classes. If your child will not be continuing at Edney next year, could you please advise the front office of this in writing as soon as possible 23rd Kindergarten Gold attend 29th Fathers Day Stall — Kindy Gold and Choir 30th One Big Voice Fathers Day Stall Kindergarten Blue and Red attend 2nd School Photos 3rd School Photos Kindy Gold School Board Meeting 6pm 4th Faction Throws, Jumps and Distance Events 5th Assembly Room 13 Newsletter 6th Faction Carnival Kindergarten Blue and Red attend Upcoming Events August 2019 September 2019

It’s P&C day hip hip hooray! The P&C is only possible because of parents and citizens like us. It’s with great pride we take this day and reflect upon our many great achievements including the revamping of the library, which had its grand opening today. Thank you to Mr Chaplin and staff who have organised this special celebration. A big pat on the back to the P&C and its many volunteers who have picked up some tongs, packed up some tables, collected ice, cool drinks and hot dog rolls, sold raffle tickets, chocolates and sausage sizzles. Those who have assisted Jan in the canteen making lunches, prepping salads, washing plates and assisting with orders. Parents who have helped with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls. Thank you also to some integral people of the P&C, Secretary David Balfe for his tireless work he puts into the agendas, minutes and organising meetings. Tania Death, the treasurer who works with all things financial. Steve Rapps, who is an amazing VP and in large part because of his work with Bonnie Kelly, our students enjoyed the Colour Fun Run and the Mother’s Day stall. We are still looking for people to fundraise, if you're keen we would love to meet you! We make a great team, well done Edney PS P&C.
