Edney Edition Term 3 Week 2 26 July 2018 The Edney Way - Respect and Excellence Welcome back for another amazing term at Edney Primary School. While we’ve been back for only a little over one week, it feels as though we never left, and the students and staff are straight back down to work, turning out excellent results and focusing on progress, every day. What is your focus this semester? When student reports were emailed in the last week of last term, I am sure that they were opened with great anticipation, and the judgement passed, “Good”, in the majority of cases no doubt. Whether it was good, excellent or a call to action, it is important that there is some follow-up to ensure better, further or more progress. This requires a conversation with your child about what they hope to achieve over the next semester. There are almost 100 more days of school left this year – where can they be, realistically with 100 more days of practise and learning? If a teacher requested an interview, please ensure that this is kept and followed-up as soon as possible. Car Parking It pains me to use my limited space which could be about promoting our wonderful students and education in general to have to be the parking police. While the majority of the time things are going smoothly, as in all things, we can still improve. While this will cause minor inconvenience, the consequences of not complying could impact student safety and that is above all the most important thing. The Wycombe Road side of the school has now had bollards installed to visually illustrate and reinforce the long-standing parking restrictions that apply. As all parents are informed upon enrolment, parking on this side of the school is extremely limited, and should be avoided. In the interests of safety and in order to avoid parking fines which may legitimately be issued, we recommend your use of the purpose-built parking facilities of the school in the Recreation Centre Carpark or the Kiss and Ride on Edney Road. Disabled Bays, Bus Bays and Staff Carparks are solely for the use of those vehicles and groups. These bays and areas are not for student pick up and drop off and not for general use. Ideally we would have a parking bay for every single person to be just as close as possible to the exact place that they need to be. The trouble is, that would cost a huge amount of money, and we’d only require these facilities for about 5 minutes per day – a really poor investment. Instead, please read the signs, follow the directions, avoid getting yourself fined by the Rangers, and most importantly, keep the cars in the designated areas - away from the children. From the Principal’s Desk Faction Thursday and Fridays and Faction Carnival This term, it’s all about showing our Faction colours and participating with respect and excellence, both in and outside of the sporting arena. Every Thursday and Friday throughout the year, students are encouraged to wear their faction t shirts to show their team pride, as well as earning faction points for each wearer. That’s double the opportunity to earn faction points! All parents and community members are invited to join us for our Faction Athletics Carnival, to be held on Friday 31 st August. More details will be provided nearer to the date. Edney NAIDOC Day To coincide with National Indigenous Children’s Day, we are holding a full day of NAIDOC celebrations for all in our community to acknowledge and respect the contribution of Aboriginal people to the country that we all live in and share together. The opening ceremony commences at 10am, with activities from 11am – 1pm. Please come along on Friday 10 th August. All are welcome. Look out for the special NAIDOC lunch order from Fast Edney’s coming home in the next day or so. School Board Meeting The Edney Primary School Board next meet on Tuesday 7 th August at 6pm in the school library. All Board meetings are open to the public to observe, and parents and community members are most welcome to attend. Enrolments for 2019 Next week, the school will send notification and enrolment forms to our Kindergarten families for 2019, with our Kindergartens for next year nearly filled to capacity. We will also be confirming enrolment for current Kindergarten students who applied for a place in our Pre-primary programs in 2019. It will assist the school, and the prospects for the school to accept enrolments, if we are informed of any changes or intentions to relocate or leave at the end of the year for students in any year level as planning processes for classes will soon be underway. Please call in at the front office, or notify us in writing at your earliest convenience. In the next few weeks, parent input and considerations will be invited for the formation of our classes for 2019. School Banking News At the end of this year both myself, Bonnie and Erica will be stepping down as school banking coordinators.... we are looking for 2—3 new volunteers to continue as of next year.

I would like to have the new volunteers come in for the last term of this year so I can train you up and show you the ropes.

It’s a fun job and takes about 1-2 hours a week to complete. This job can’t be done without volunteers and I would hate to see it not happen anymore…

If you're interested I’m always at the school or message me through the parents page on Face book or come into the library on a Tuesday morning and we can have a chat.

Cheers guys, Tambri, Banking Coordinator

Community News Here are activities our community has been talking about.

Edney’s Magical Kingdom Fair This week we had our first class stall meeting. Does your class have a stall coordinator? To find out, please check with your class teacher. If you are a coordinator, please hop on to our Facebook page Edney's Magical Stall Coordinators. Bonnie Kelly is the Class Liaison and can be contacted via the Facebook page or you can email [email protected]. A Class Stall list can be found on the Edney Primary Parents Page and in classrooms,

alternatively, you may request a copy via email. Please send photos in for your class stall prep work—we

would like to highlight all the effort that is being put in.

This week we would like to acknowledge and thank two of

our sponsors, Fennell Tyres and High Wycombe Pharmacy. There is still an opportunity to sponsor your child’s class, if you would like further details you can email us or look on the Edney Primary School website under the Magical

Kingdom Fair for sponsorship. We would still like to enlist some Donation Hunters. These are people who are interested in approaching businesses

and collecting donations. How do you stay up to date with the Fair progress? Well, most information sharing will be done in digital format— please get on to our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Edneyfair/ and Instagram https://
