and believe that this initiative will go a long way towards the
fulfillment of our aim. I will urge more institutions and
organization to dedicate resources in order to uproot
illiteracy from Pakistan”, she said.
Ali Akbar, Country Director, Hashoo Foundation said
“Hashoo Foundation is committed to eliminate illiteracy
from Pakistan and is running numerous projects to achieve
this objective. We are focused and committed towards our
youth and we believe in investing in them for a better
Pakistan.”
Pakistan's commitment towards the Millennium
Development Goal 'Education For All' is a challenge in a
scenario where there are so many impediments in the
educational system. Hashoo Foundation has undertaken
initiatives like Youth Development Centers and Scholarship
programs to overcome these impediments.
Hashoo Foundation, in collaboration with Rotary Books for
the World Program, held its Rotary Books distribution
ceremony at Umeed-e-Noor. The focus of this event was to
contribute in improving literacy efforts across Pakistan by
distributing books and educational material among
educational institutes and libraries. Rotary Books for the World and The Second Wind
Foundation donated 200,000 books which Hashoo
Foundation actively assisted in sorting and then distributing
at the event.
Commenting on this year's books distribution, Chief Guest
Ms. Nafeesa Khattak, Member of National Assembly,
emphasized the importance of education and appreciated
Hashoo Foundation's efforts to aid literacy in Pakistan. “One
of our main focus as a nation is to eradicate literacy and we
need to take concrete steps at the grassroots level towards
this aim. "I appreciate Hashoo Foundation's commitment

While interacting with other participants in the summit Mr.
Ismail got the opportunity to learn about their management
style and way of performing their roles. As majority of the
participants were from different countries like India,
Malaysia, UK, Sudan, Philippine so he also got the
opportunity to learn about the role of HR in these countries. Besides the learning and exposure in the summit, the trip to
Singapore itself gave him a lot to learn. His stay in the hostel
gave him the opportunity to interact with the tourists of
different countries like China, Indonesia, Switzerland,
Mexico, India, Srilanka
Mr. Ismail Manager HR, went on a training session at
Singapore. The focus of the summit was leadership and
team management. The rare concept of Authentic
Leadership. “Leaders attract the followers” was introduced.
Participants were told that leaders do not lead the people
rather they attract the followers. The session helped to understand the role of a boss which
aids in increasing the level of employee engagement and
commitment. The facilitator mentioned in his presentation
that Employee engagement and commitment solely
depends on the leadership skills of the boss, it is the prime
responsibility of the boss. “A caring and supportive boss is
always a good manager”. In a survey 15 % of Generation Y
said that they are dissatisfied with their bosses (managers)
as they did not meet their expectations. “Manager’s role is
to manage the emotions not the people” The session on team building vs team bonding was another
most valuable addition to the event. Implementation of the
use of different team bonding tools were told.
Communication skill is one of the top ranked skill required
for leaders and managers. Ms. Shirley Taylor, one of the
renowned Trainer took the session on business writing
skills.

in the center is for 1200. Where differently-abled (people
with special needs and abilities) people would perform
various activities like physiotherapy, livelihood activities

There is need to give modern touch to these products as
per market need. The major challenge for both
organizations would be to create linkages for these
products to the national market after value addition.

livelihood in Hunza. Women are trained to cut precious
and semi-precious stones to make jewelry. The main
challenge is again value addition and marketing. A
discussion was done on the need to focus on social
enterprise perspective, products should be viable so that
it can stem on its own.
The meeting between HF and KADO was held on 13th May
at the HF Core Office. Senior representatives from both

Panel members reflected their thoughts linking these with
religious values, ethics and gave examples with the life of
Holy Prophet (PBUH) and discussed solutions towards
rectifying these problems. Mr. Sulaiman Dhanani
appreciated the efforts of ECD&E trainees, in his closing
remarks he mentioned mother's love as eternal and how we
cannot explain and translate her affection, sacrifices and
attachment in words.
Mr. Javaid Akhter admired the love, affection and sacrifices
of a mother, which is beyond any limitation and without any
greed. She devotes her life and struggle to provide the
comfort a child requires without any expectations and
reward in return.
A perfect time to celebrate your mother and all her
wonderful qualities, Early Childhood Development &

ceased and he couldn't even pay the house rent due to
which he got a notification to vacate the house. Although he
managed to get his son treated but couldn't afford his
medication.
After facing all these problems, he approached Hashoo
Foundation, who sent their Social Welfare team to assess his
situation. The team as an emergency relief provided him
with Rs. 15,000/- for paying off his pending rent and re-
admitting his son to school. They also paid Rs. 3,000/- per
month for his son's medicines.
Hashoo Foundation has always believed in self-sustainable
initiatives, having said that and keeping his expertise in
mind, they developed a business plan for him. He was
suggested to restart his business with more stock, the initial
investment was provided by the Foundation. Currently,
Abd-ur-Rehman is running a smooth business, paying his
household expenses and children's fee. Upon a follow-up
visit he annotated:
“My domestic conditions wretched me to strive for two
times meal. I remember the disgraceful behavior of the
house owner with my family. None of my relatives ever
cared to ask about my misery but HF came with a ray of
hope. They assisted me more than my expectations. I
got my shelter back, my children are now going to
school. My family and I will be thankful to HF for our
entire life. I believe humanitarianism is alive even
today.”
Mr. Abd-ur-Rehman, the breadwinner – and the sole
financial provider of a family of 5. Life was a challenge for
him especially in these hard and trying times, where paying
off the utility bills was a huge task, apart from the other
household expenses he had to bear. To make ends meet,
Abd-ur- Rehman set up a cart full of children's garments and
roamed around streets. This small scale business would
barely pay off his house rent and one time meal, conditions
sometimes worsened to an extent wherehis family couldn't
even have that one time meal, and ultimately the neighbors
would support them. Due to the financial crisis, his son got
dropped out from school, to add to his worries, his elder
son, aged 15 gotexposed to GBV, a lethal disease that causes
paralysis. This disease needed long term treatment in order
to recover fully, Abdu-ur-Rehman, who was already
struggling with money, had to sell off his cart and get his
child treated. Consequently, his sole income source was

10 MOST NUTRITIOUS FOODS!
Avocados
Beans
Broccoli
Dark Chocolate
Despite their fat, or actually because of it, avocados can
lower your cholesterol. Researchers find that replacing just
five percent of your calories from saturated fat (think butter
or cheese) with monounsaturated fat - the kind in avocados
- could slash the risk of heart attack by more than a third
Beans are in fact good for your heart, thanks in large part to
their soluble fibre, which soaks up cholesterol so the body
can dispose of it before it can stick to artery walls.
The antioxidant plant pigments that make blueberries blue -
flavonoids called anthocyanins - guard against heart
disease, cancer and age-related blindness and memory loss.
Consider broccoli your number one cancer fighter, thanks to
its sulfur compounds, such as sulforaphane, which you can
smell as broccoli cooks. These compounds signal our genes
to boost production of enzymes that detoxify potentially
cancer-causing compounds. Eat more broccoli, and you
could slash your risk of everything from breast and lung
cancer to stomach and colon cancer by as much as half.
Dark chocolate contains hefty amounts of disease-fighting
flavonoids, antioxidants also found in many fruits and
vegetables. In fact, it appears to have more flavonoids than
any other food. Studies find its antioxidants can improve
blood pressure, prevent blood clots, slow the oxidation of
LDL cholesterol (making it less likely to stick to artery walls),
and reduce inflammation.
Flaxseed
Garlic
Salmon
Spinach
A tablespoon of ground flaxseed sprinkled over cereal or
yogurt provides an easy 2.3 grams of fibre, often more than
what's in the cereal itself! But flaxseed is most revered for its
lignans. These act like estrogen in the body, blocking
estrogen receptors on cells and contributing to reduced
rates of certain hormone-related cancers, such as breast
cancer. Flaxseed is also a fantastic source of alpha-linolenic
acid (ALA), an essential fatty acid the body uses to make
omega-3 fatty acids.
More health benefits have been ascribed to garlic than to
just about any other food - and some of them even hold
true. Garlic has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral
properties; it even appears to banish some antibiotic-
resistant bacteria, at least in test tubes. Most of its disease-
fighting potential comes from its sulfur compounds, which
act as antioxidants, providing many of its cardiovascular
benefits.
The fat in salmon is like liquid gold when it comes to your
blood vessels. Just two servings of salmon a week can
reduce your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease by 17
percent and your risk of having a heart attack by 27 percent.
In addition to protecting your eyes from age-related
macular degeneration, thanks to its carotenoids, spinach
has high concentrations of vitamin K, which can help
maintain bone density and prevent fractures. The green
stuff is also a powerful source of potassium and magnesium
as well as folate, all of which can keep blood pressure low,
reducing the risk of stroke
