Dear readers,

Happy New Year 2014! Entering the New Year, we are present in slightly different look, which was previously a tabloid, now we come in a form of magazine with simpler yet still attrac-tive size and design. More than that, the change of look does not affect our intention and spirit to keep promoting Indonesia tourism. We started in 2006 and consistently continue promoting Indonesia tourism and as time goes by, the coverage area of information presented are getting wider, not only

across Indonesia, but also abroad. Throughout this year, we are going to focus and concentrate on

promoting and developing marine tourism. Indonesia has great marine potentials and promising to be developed as marine tour-ism. Unfortunately, those potentials have not been managed and developed maximally. We have to continue encourage the com-munity, tourism practitioners and the government to pay serious attention on the development of marine tourism.

Have a great reading time and hopefully this magazine can be a reference for those who want to develop business in tourism sector and those who like travelling.

Tourist arrivals to Indonesia by the end of 2013 was estimated to reach as many as 8,637,275

people or a growth of 7.37% compared to the year 2012 as many as 8.04 million tourists.

Although the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) alone has not released the data of foreign tourists visit from November to December, but the data of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy revealed that the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia un-til the end of 2013 was estimated at 8.6 million foreign tourists or a growth of 7.37 per cent compared to 2012. This

means that the target of foreign tour-ists visit this year is reached.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu in Jakarta on Tuesday (24/12) at end of year 2013 press con-ference. She said that the figure is based on the prediction of the growth of foreign tourist visit in November 2013 that reached 5.52 % and also the assumption on an increase in for-eign tourist visit December 2013, that was estimated the same as December 2012, which was 0.53 %.

In terms of employment, tourism sector in 2013 absorbed 10.18million people (9.41 million people in 2012) or 8.89 % of total national employment (8.49 % in 2012).

Mari added that the spending of foreign tourists amounted to US$ 1.142 million per visit. Thus the in-come earned from tourism sector this year reached about US$ 9.87 billion. “This means that there is an increase of 8.17% compared to US$ 9.12 billion in 2012. Based on these figures I be-lieve that next year’s projected tourism prospect and creative economy will re-main promising, “she said.

Moreover, Mari said that based on recent studies conducted by the UNWTO and WWTC, the attempt of providing visa facilities will impact on an additional of 2.6 million jobs in the APEC economic areas. The govern-ment also set a target of foreign tourist visit in 2014 similar to 2013’s target, which is about 7-7.5 % or 9.2 million

tourists, with an increase of 600 thou-sand foreign tourists.

As for domestic tourists in 2013 estimated the number of trips reached 248 million trips, with an average trip expenditure of IDR 711,000. With a total expenditure of domestic tourists during 2013 reached IDR 176.32 tril-lion.

Targeting 9.2 Million Foreign Tourists in 2014

Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is targeting foreign tourist ar-rival in 2014 at 9.2 million people. “For 2014, the target of 9.2 million foreign tourist visits are focused on 16 major destinations,” said Mari Pangestu.

She said that the target of 9.2 million foreign tourists increased by 600,000 people or by 7 to 7.5 percent of the total foreign tourists visiting In-donesia in 2013.

This year, Indonesia’s competitive-ness position also increased from rank 74th to 70th. World Economic Forum summarized indications image of tour-ism in the countries in the world. One of the indications is the competitive-ness in travel and tourism. “The posi-tion of the competitiveness of Indone-sian tourism in 2013 is in the top 70,” said Mari.

In 2011, said Mari, Indonesia was ranked 74. This represents an in-crease from 2009, which was ranked 81 of 140 countries. ( bowo )

The result of research conducted by Skycanner, a global travel search site, reveals that travel

trend in 2013, many travelers use mobile applications (mobile devices) in planning their travel.

Skyscanner CEO Gareth Williams in a press release said that travelers use mobile applications to find tips and advice for travelling, directions, ticket booking and language trans-lators. Along with the growth of the mobile industry and smartphones, travelers around the world are now us-ing mobile applications as a traveling companion.

“On the other hand, increasing economic growth in the Asia Pacific region, particularly Indonesia, provide public interest opportunities for travel-ling and relaxing. Even the Asia Pa-cific region has surpassed Europe and becoming the largest travel market in the world and is expected to earn US$ 351.9 billion this year, “she said.

Skyscanner also indicated that many Indonesian tourists take advan-tage of the proximity to the neighboring countries, or choose a destination in the country with the best facilities. Sin-gapore ranks first as a weekend tour-ist destination, followed by Bali, Kuala

Asia Pacific Travel Market Predicted to Earn US$ 351.9 Billion

AirAsia founder Tony Fernandes said low-cost carriers will contin-ue growing, especially in the Asia-

Pacific region so that AirAsia is committed to anticipate it.

“We estimate the number of wide-body low cost carriers (LCCs) in the Asia Pacific region reached more than 100 airlines when the market increased by 35 % in the next five years, “said Tony Fernandes.

He said that AirAsia had predicted a fairly large market potential in the Asia Pa-cific region, mainly due to the low level of market penetration for LCC flights under four hours of flying time.

“Previously, AirAsia has also won the award for World Leading Low Cost Airline in the event of the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2013. This award became an im-portant milestone for AirAsia Group that will celebrate its 12th anniversary,” he said.

He added that during the years, AirA-sia has developed from only two aircrafts and 250 employees to 147 aircrafts and has employed approximately 12,000 em-ployees from various countries. ( * )

Not many foreign and domestic tourists have known the diversity of Indonesia’s underwater poten-

tials. Therefore, the government contin-ues to promote the program and devel-opment of marine tourism in the country.

One of the government’s efforts in optimizing the potential of marine tour-ism in Indonesia is through underwa-ter photo contest, namely Indonesia the World Underwater Photo Contest (IWUPC) 2013.

It is the biggest underwater photo contest in the world as confirmed by seven professional judges from the Unit-ed States, Hong Kong, Japan and the United Kingdom.

Director of Special Interest Tourism, Conventions, Incentives and Events Development Achyaruddin expects the participants and the judges to be able to attract foreign tourists being targeted to come to Indonesia from Europe, Asia and America.

“In addition, they also need to know about Indonesia, especially marine tour-ism potentials in the country and has a reputation for conflict -free with any par-ties,” said Achyaruddin in Bali.

“Later, all photos will be on display and used as a means of promotion for Indonesian marine tourism. Ten finalists will be taken from 2625 photos submit-ted,” he added.

Achyaruddin said that this activity will have a positive impact to attract tourists. Additionally, the world will get to know the potential of marine tourism spread throughout the country where there are 700 points that become the object of un-derwater shooting.

“Areas that are often used as object of photography and diving operators in

Bali are Raja Ampat and Lombok,” he explained.

On separate occasion, Expert Staff for the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Cipto Aji Gunawan said that Ministry of Tourism and Creative Econo-my once told him that why Indonesian as a maritime nation that has such vast sea do not have anything that really stands out in the world.

“Therefore, a program is designed to give advantages to Indonesian society and become something that stands out in the world that titled “Indonesian World Underwater Photo Contest,” said Cipto.

However, the program is not merely a photo contest, but there are other im-portant things that become important requirement for the development and conservation.

The intended development lies on how to involve diving operators through-out Indonesia. Thus, not all people can send photos to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

Tourists or people who want to dive should involve certified diving operators. It is also important for Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to record the dis-tribution map of the entire diving opera-tors for further development of marine tourism.

That way, the level of professionalism of diving operators and products offered to tourists can be identified. The point is not only about organizing a photo con-test, but more importantly is about how all diving operators use the event as a means of promoting tourism.

“They can offer as an attraction for diving in Indonesian so that it can attract more tourists, “he explained.

In addition, the unique thing, which is also the first time performed in the world is that diving accompanied by a diving guide who takes pictures will also re-ceived an award.

However, the condition is that the diving guide that joins the contest should be Indonesian so that it can encourage them to promote marine tourism. “The total prize for the contest reached IDR 2 billion,” he concluded. ( igo )

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III is tar-geting 19 cruise ships to dock at the Port of Tanjung Emas Sema-

rang. Head of Public Relations Pelindo III Edi Priyanto said 18 ships have been docking at Tanjung Emas.

“This number has increased com-pared to last year, which was only visit-ed by 17 cruise ships. French -flagged cruise ship MV. Le Soleal has recently docked at Tanjung Emas before contin-ued sailing to the Port of Tanjung Perak Surabaya,” he said.

Le Soleal weighs 1.708 DWT became the fourth cruise ship that stopped at the Port of Tanjung Perak in 2013. The ship was carrying 264 passengers and 139 crews.

“In 2012 there were 5 ships visited Tanjung Perak with 1,227 tourists. However, in 2013 there were only 4 ships with 2,478 tourists. Although the number of ships visiting had dropped but the number of foreign tourists who visit the city of Surabaya and surround-ing areas increased,” he said. ( * )

Indonesian offers nine sharia tourism destinations, namely West Sumatra, Riau, Lampung, Jakarta,

Banten, West Java, East Java, Lombok, and Makassar. “In the early stages, there are nine areas that we offer as Islamic tourist destination,” said Director General Tourism Marketing Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Esthy Reko Astuti in Jakarta.

Esthy explained that the determina-tion of the sharia tourist destinations was determined based on the readiness of hu-man resources, local culture, local tourism products and tourist accommodation. The determination of sharia tourist destination is part of the preparation for the launch of

sharia tourism product 2014. Moreover, she explained that sh-

aria tourism includes not only the existence of pilgrimage and re-ligious places, but also includes

the availability of facilities such as restau-rants and hotels that provide halal food and prayer area.

Esthy also explained that in 2010, In-donesia received seven million tourists visit and 17 percent of whom are Muslim. “With more active promotion on sharia tourism, Muslim tourist arrival is expected to rise to 20 - 25 percent in 2014-2015,” she said.

Sharia Tourism can be defined as an

activity that is supported by a wide range of facilities and services provided by com-munities, businesses, governments, and local governments comply with sharia. Sharia tourism has the characteristics of tourism products and services that are universal, and the existence can be uti-lized by many people.

Tourism products and services and tourist destinations in the sharia tourism is equal to the products, services and desti-nations of tourism in general as longs as it is not in conflict with the values and ethics of sharia. So, it is not limited to religious tourism only.

Although it is considered left behind compared to general tourism, the govern-ment expects sharia tourism to become a trend. As a simple example of supporting sharia tourism is by providing a convenient place of worship, such as in Thailand or other countries, which have implemented this concept first. ( bowo )

Indonesia to Prepare 9 Sharia Tourism Destinations

Bali Provincial Government is targeting the number of foreign tourist arrival to the island at three

million people in 2014 to adjust to the political conditions of the coming year.

“In 2014, we can not expect more than three million due to 2014 is the political year. So, I assume, we will be busy with the general election, “said the Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika.

According to Pastika, although faced with the constraints of political year, Bali Government still expects the target to be achieved.

Pastika is optimistic to achieve the target for 2014 Bali is still chosen as the

venue for several international confer-ences, such as the World Cardiologists Conference that will be attended by about 3,000 participants in April.

On the other hand, Pastika considers that Balinese people have the high spirit of “menyamabraya” or brotherhood and they realize that tourism industry requires positive atmosphere. “I don’t think anyone would want to make riot in Bali if they love Bali,” he said.

Pastika, who is also former police chief of Bali expects political party leaders and community leaders can continue to draw a soothing atmosphere in this political year.

When compared to the target of Bali

Indonesian Tourism Promotion Board (BPPI) is optimistic that the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy

(Kemenparekraf) will achieve the target of 9.2 million foreign tourist visits next year. Although admittedly, there will be several challenges to achieve it such as the General Election 2014 and the month of fasting (Ramadhan).

In 2014, it is not only the general elec-tion that can be a challenge to achieve the target of 9.2 million foreign tourist visits. “In 2014, the month of fasting falls in July, and it is the peak season. It can be a challenge to increase the number of tourists,” said Yanti Sukamdani, Chair-man of the BPPI.

Still, she is optimistic that the fasting month that falls during peak season will not affect much on tourist visit. “Hope-fully, the hotel occupancy rate is still high despite the fasting month falls during the peak season,” she added.

Moreover, in 2014, she said, there

will be more and more airlines opening new routes, as well as the opening of new airports in the regions. “This could increase the number of foreign and domestic tourists,” she added.

Regarding the election, she is sure that it will not make for-eign tourist hesitate coming to Indonesia, given that there were not any history in Indonesia that the country’s election led to riots. “General elections can actually increase domestic tourism trips because there will be many meet-ings held in the cities throughout Indonesia and hotels will be full of MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Con-ference, Exhibition) events,” she explained.

Working on Asia Pacific markets

China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, and Ger-many become the priority of In-donesian tourism promotional

activities conducted by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Ke-menparekraf) in 2014. The same thing is also done by Indonesian Tourism Pro-motion Board (BPPI), only with a slightly different goal.

“ For next year, we will prioritize the promotion to China and South Korea, but we’ll take the secondary cities,” said Yanti.

BPPI will not only promote Indone-sia to the main cities in China and South Korea, such as Beijing, Shanghai, or Guangzhou, but to other cities in the sur-rounding areas. “We take the Second-ary Cities. For South Korea, instead of Seoul, we are going to visit Busan, as the secondary city, “said Yanti.

This is done to increase the variety of travelers in addition to increasing the number of tourists who will come to Indo-nesia. For the next year, Kemenparekraf is targeting tourist arrivals of 9.2 million people. (bowo)

2014 Filled by Political MICE Agenda

PT Indonesia Infrastructure Finance (IIF) is one of the government-appointed consultants to develop infrastructure in the country. Until now, the Ministry of Trans-portation is requesting IIF to provide con-sultation on private parties which are ready to manage the airports in the country.

IIF President Director, Kartika Wir-joatmodjo said that until now there are 38 investors who want to manage airports in Indonesia and 12 of them are foreign in-vestors. They are keen to manage airports in the areas that invited many tourists.

“The twelve foreign investors, I assume they are interested in managing airports related to the tourism sector such as Ko-modo and Wakatobi. One-third of foreign investors who are interested in this project come from Europe. They are still looking for the appeal and advantages in manag-ing 10 airports in the country,” he said.

He said further that investors are still discussing this by providing input and ideas. The plan is that private parties will offer airport operations management. In addition, the investor also wants to devel-op 10 third grade airports.

“The building has already existed so that only operational maintenance required and the development and the addition of the terminal,” he said.

As reported earlier, Deputy Minister of Transportation Bambang Susantono men-tioned that there are 10 airports managed by the private sector. They are Raden Intan II Airport (Lampung), Mutiara (Palu), Sul-tan Baabullah (Ternate), Komodo (Labuan Bajo), Sentani (Jayapura), Tjilik Riwut (Pa-langkaraya), Juwata (Tarakan), Fatmawati (Bengkulu), Hananjoeddin (Tanjung Pan-dan) and Matahora (Wakatobi). As one of the companies that provide employment opportunities and training in Indonesia, Archipelago

International plans to create more than 2,000 new jobs in Bali in 2014.

It will also provide thousands of hours of training to employees along with the growing number of employees.

As of November 2013, Archipelago International has provided employment opportunities to 1,558 people in 18 hotels and villas on the island of Bali. For the re-cord, where in 2013 (January-November) Archipelago International has been pro-viding jobs to 550 people in Bali, and has conducted training for 115,8411. 49 hours to all employees, with an average of 4 hours of training per person a month.

Taking into account the future devel-opment and to support the Indonesian economy, Archipelago International will provide more opportunities to work in Bali. In 2014, the number of employment op-portunities that will be offered in Bali is as much as 1,890 jobs (including change of employee and new employee search for 13 new hotels), so hopefully by the end of the year, the number of employment op-portunities will reach 3,448. Preparation training will be increased to 4-6 hours of training per month per person, which will reach 248 256 hours of training in a year.

Every employee who works at the ho-tel and villas in Bali Archipelago Interna-tional network will not only receive a thor-ough training, but also receive an award at work. All employees will get revenue in accordance with their respective areas of work and will receive additional revenue from service charges.

It results in the increase of income with an average of 3 times higher than employ-

ees who work in the field other than hospi-tality, as well as some of the other facilities provided by Archipelago. In addition, an-other advantage received by employees is that they are going to be given training that includes English language skills and knowledge development, wearing proper uniform at work, getting meal facility that is guaranteed and health insurance.

Asia Pacific Hash, 2014 (WAI - ASPAC). This event will take place in Bali and East Nusa Tenggara, precisely in Labuan Bajo and Komodo Island.

WAI - ASPAC will be held on 10 to 13 May 2014. Until now, approximately 1,700 participants have registered. They are from Australia, Britain, Brunei, China, the Netherlands, Germany, India, Japan and New Zealand.

Sport featured in this event is hash. It is searching for traces sport that combines running and walking activities in the coun-tryside and mountains. The participants will perform these activities while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Bali and Labuan Bajo.

These places have been specifically

chosen as the venue for the event in or-der to promote tourism in both areas. “We want to promote tourism in Bali and Be-yond, introduce other destinations than Bali,” said Mari Elka Pangestu, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy.

“It would be fun to hold a sporting event in tourist area and the effect could make the area better known by tourists,” she added.

In Bali, WAI - ASPAC will take place in Sangeh, Tampak Siring and Goa La-wah (Bat Cave). Then the activity will be continued to Labuan Bajo and Komodo Island, East Nusa Tenggara.

Previously, in 2012, a similar event was held at Borobudur Temple. “Sporting event like this is something Indonesian could do, because Indonesia have many spots for sport tourism,” said Mari.

On the same occasion, Director of Special Interest Tourism, Conventions, In-centives, and Event Development Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Achyar-uddin said that various things owned by Indonesia are able to become a “magnet” for tourist visit, both local and foreign such as during the implementation of Borobu-dur Interhash 2012.

According to Mari, the participants who join the cross-country event (hash) come from various countries. They are amazed by the structure of Indonesian geography. “The hashers (hash participants) want to come if there is a magnet,” said Achyar.

“Our culture is admired worldwide. Borobudur has successfully made the par-ticipants amazed by its architecture and stunning nature of Bali and Flores will ab-solutely do even more,” she added. ( eka )

As the initial phase, Garuda opens four pioneering flight route in eastern Indonesia. Selected routes are also the most sought after routes by tourists, so it is quite potential. The routes are Denpasar - Labuan Bajo – Ende, and Denpasar - Bima - Mat-aram. The next two routes are Denpasar - Labuan Bajo – Tam-bolaka and Denpasar - Mataram – Bima, which were opened last December 20, 2013.

To prepare these pioneer routes, Garuda Indonesia ordered 35 ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft ‘Explore’ from ATR, a French-Italy cooperative aircraft industry. The purchase consists of 25 aircraft with a status of “firm order” and 10 aircraft with a status

of “option”. Two aircraft arrived in November and December this year, and the rest will come gradually until 2017.

“ The ATR 72-600 is the most convenient advanced aircraft in its class,” said President Director of Garuda Indonesia Emirsyah Satar.

The aircraft is specially designed for short-distance route and areas difficult to reach by a large-body aircraft. The capacity is for 70 passengers and the aircraft is specially ordered by Garuda to serve pioneer routes because it can reach the small airport that has a runway less than 1,600 meters and the travel distance is less than 900 Nautical Mile (Nm). Foreign flagged cruise ship visit-ing Indonesia over the past four years shows encouraging trend.

PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Persero) recorded that every year there is an increase in cruise ship visits to ports managed by the State-Owned Enter-prises.

In 2010, there were 57 cruise ships coming, 76 ships in 2011 and 92 ships in 2012. “In 2013 it was recorded there were at least 116 cruise ships that come

into port managed by the PT Pelindo III or an increase of 26 % compared to 2012,” said Head of Public Relations of PT Pelindo III Edi Priyanto.

Port that most frequently visited by luxury cruise ships is Benoa harbor in Bali. It is followed by Lembar Harbor in Lombok and Tanjung Emas Harbor in Semarang.

“The three ports are tourist areas. In Bali, cruise ship passengers usually vis-it Kuta Beach and other famous tourist destinations. While in Semarang, they visit Borobudur Temple and in Lombok Gili Trawangan Beach,” said Edi.

Of the total ship cruise ships call in 2013, Benoa Harbor in Bali is a favorite

place for cruise operators which have recorded as many as 41 cruise ships docked at the harbor with the number of passengers reached 41 650 people.

The next is Lembar harbor, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara with as many as 25 cruise ships carrying as many as 27 554 tourists and Tanjung Emas, Semarang, Central Java, with 19 cruise ships carrying at least 13 390 foreign tourists.

which is used for culinary demonstrations and displays typical Indonesian cuisine such as rendang, maranggi satay, Balinese wrapped satay and Roast Chicken with Rojak Seasoning,” said Deputy Director of tourism pro-motion overseas territory of Europe, the Ministry of Tour-ism and Creative Economy, Agustini Rahayu.

Vakantiebeurs is the largest international tourism market in the Netherlands. In 2009, Indonesia became a partner country to provide an opportunity for the in-dustry, especially tourism, travel trade, hotelier, airlines around the world to develop new business relationships in the field of tourism.

“The Netherlands is one of the countries in Europe, which have historical and cultural ties with Indonesia. No wonder that there are so many Dutch tourists travel to Indonesia,” she explained.

Dutch tourists visiting Indonesia has fluctuated from year to year. In January-August 2013, the number of

tourists from the Netherlands reached 101, 735 people or up by 2.14 percent from 2012 amounted to 99, 601.

TransNusa Aviation, the national airline opens new route Denpasar - Sumbawa and

Sumbawa - Denpasar. The new route is expected to be good news for people who have a business need or want to take a holiday to Bali and Sumbawa.

The premier flight from Sumbawa to Denpasar and vice versa has been start-ed on Wednesday (8/1). “On the flight, 70 percent of the total 52 seats available were filled,” said Chief Representative of Sumbawa TransNusa Jaya Purnama at Sultan Kaharuddin Airport, Sumbawa.

Public is very excited to welcome new routes of Sumbawa - Denpasar and vice versa. The new routes will be served three times a week on Monday, Wednes-day and Saturday with the flight schedule of Denpasar – Sumbawa at around 09.00 am and Sumbawa - Denpasar at 12:40 pm.

“We open the new routes as a re-sponse to public demand, especially pas-sengers who have commercial or busi-ness interests in addition to TransNusa support for tourism development and in-vestment in Sumbawa,” said Jaya.

The opening of the new route is part of the company’s contribution to regional development, since there is no doubt that one of the factors that motivate invest-ments is the availability of adequate and representative air transport services, he said.

It is expected that in the future due to the high demand, the route will be served everyday in addition to the Sumbawa - Lombok and Lombok - Sumbawa that has been operating for quite some times. “Of course the consequence is the need of additional fleet,” Jaya said.

The main base of this airline is at the El Tari Airport, Kupang and was launched in August 2005 serving passengers to a variety of destinations from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara with aircraft leased from Pelita Air Service and Trigana Air Ser-vice.

The grand sports tourism cycling event in Indonesia, the Tour de Singkarak will enter its 6th edition this 2nd to

10th June 2014, as noted in the schedule of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Road Calendar 2013-2014 Season. (www.uci.ch).

The annual international event that combines sport and tourism anticipates various improvements in its implemen-tation. Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy together with and the Govern-ment of West Sumatra Province and the event organizers are preparing physical survey agendas and initial coordination meeting as strategic steps for the prepa-ration of the event.

Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cre-ative Economy, Sapta Nirwandar as Ex-ecutive Chairman Tour de Singkarak as well as the initiator of the event said, “With a number of considerations, TDS 2014 is implemented in class 2.2. We would like to straighten out a number of statements

of one of the parties who appeared in the news media these days, such as the one saying that TDS 2013 was held in the 2.1 class. That is totally wrong!

It is further emphasized that the suc-cess of Tour de Singkarak, which idea and concept was originally proposed by Nirwandar as Marketing Director General of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture in 2009, is the result of hard work from many parties and people of West Sumatra, not by individual.

Sapta is so grateful when the initial presentation of this idea in 2009 was greeted with enthusiasm by the Governor of West Sumatra, Gamawan Fauzi. In two

years, in 2009, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Government of West Sumatra Province and 4 regencies and cities in West Sumatra are finally able to realize the first Tour de Singkarak.

Meanwhile, West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said the rapid development going on Tour de Singkarak since the first year to the fifth year of implementa-tion, has led to a positive impact in many fields.

This tour has become a platform and a fantastic way to promote West Sumatra in-ternationally. Tour de Singkarak 2014, the society and government of West Sumatra province are ready to be a good host for the entire cycling athletes, Officials and the entire organizing committee as well as domestic and foreign tourists who will come to West Sumatra.

In the field of cycling, Tour de Sing-karak has now become one of the in-ternational sporting events in Indonesia that provides not only a positive impact,

but also inspiration for the emergence of various other international cycling races in various regions in Indonesia. The national athletes and coaches acknowledge that Tour de Singkarak has established itself as a venue and event evaluation of the performance of athletes as well as training place with full of challenge and competi-tive opponents.

History of Tour de Singkarak

Tour de Singkarak has become an an-nual international cycling event in West Sumatra. Even TDS also had gone up in the ranking of cycling race to 2.2. There

are a number of names that cannot be separated from the history of the early implementation of Tour de Singkarak.

At that time, Deputy Minister of Tour-ism and Creative Economy (now Director General of the Ministry of Culture and Tour-ism) Sapta Nirwandarwho has the idea to hold a cycling race discussed it with the former Regent of Solok Gusmal, former Governor Gamawan Fauzi, former Deputy Governor Marlis Rahman, former Head of Culture and Tourism Office of West Suma-tra James Hellyward and Head of Sub Di-rectorate Sumatra Region Raseno Arya.

The discussion was resulted in the proj-ect of Tour de Singkarak. Previously, the name given was Tour de Danau Kembar (Twin Lake) for it was held to strengthen the Twin Lakes Festival, which became an annual event in Solok since 2006. But the name chosen is Tour de Singkarak. “The lake view is very charming and perfect to be set as the venue of cycling race,” said Sapta Nirwandar in 2009.

Minister Culture and Tourism at that time, Jero Wacik signed the agreement to make Tour de Singkarak as one of the in-ternational sporting events for the promo-tion of tourism in West Sumatra.

But the most encouraging was the statement of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism regarding the budget allocation for TdS for five consecutive years. “After that we will submit to the event organizer and assisted by the Provincial Govern-ment and Regency / City in mutual help, especially for the provision of infrastruc-ture,” said Minister Wacik five years ago.

The result is encouraging and since its first implementation 2009, TdS received praise from international cycling organiza-tions (Union Cycliste International). TdS is considered a success in terms of imple-mentation. This makes this race as one of the official cycling championships in the In-ternational Cycling Union 2.2 grade Asian Tour. So in addition to the support from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Indone-sia, Tour de Singkarak is also strengthened by the support of the provincial budget and the county or city whose land is passed by the participants. The objective to be gained from the game of Pasola

to improve his skill at throwing the hola and to be agile in evad-ing hits in order that may be called the Star of the Arena by his fans.The pasola is in essence the climax to all the activities that are part and parcel of the pesta ‘nyale’ (Nyale feast). This feast has a historical background. It serves to allay he gloom cast by severance of the marriage of one of their ancestors, as the leg-end goes.

THE SITE OF THE PASOLA WANOKAKA

The site of the Pasola Wanokaka is about 17 kilometers to the south of Waikabubak, the capital, on spacious piece of ground at Lahi Hagalang, sub-regency Walakaka. The location is surrounded by hills with old villages on top of them, on a hill slope that is packed with history and remains of the past, well formed in the form of joglo houses with tall roofs This site is justly designated as the arena to test the skill and agility of the brave males of the land of Pasola Wanokaka and to entertain those who enjoy the game.The location is accessible by two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles.

HISTORICAL bACKGROUND OF THE PASOLA

The legend of the people of Wa-nokaka in the village of Wai Wuanga goes that in olden days there were three brothers who were their ances-tors. They were Ngongu Tau Wuanga, Yogi Waikareri and Ubu Dulla, who told the people of their intention of sailing for the islet of Salura to catch fish. Ubu Dulla, who is the central figure in the legend, lived at Wai Tena, the central part of the village of Wai Wangu. Hav-ing waited very long for the return of the three brothers, the people of Wai Wuangi became restless and panicked.They looked for the three along the sea-shore, but all their efforts were in vain. At long last they came to the conclusion that their three leaders had died. Ubu Dulla had a wife whose beauty was known far and wide. Feeling low and

dejected, the wife, Rabu Kaba, went to the beach everyday to wait for her hus-band’s return. One day Rabu Kaba saw a sampan approaching and entering the port of Pahiwi. She was filled with bliss, thinking that it was her husband who had at last come back. To her great disappointment, it was not her husband who came ashore but Teba Raya, a man from the village of Tahiku (in the sub-regency of Kodi). Rabu Kaba was filled with consternation and was ashamed, and Teba Raya quickly. By the tenderest of means he managed to steal her heart. In the end a warm love grew between them. The people of Wai Wuangu, however, did not approve of their love, consequently, they decided to elope.Not long after their elopement, Ubu Dulla unexpectedly arrived back at the village with his brothers. Having been informed of his wife s elopement with Teba Raya to Kodi, Ubu Dulla went to Kodi accompanied by his brothers. After a series of negotiations, it was de-cided that the marriage between Teba Raya and Rabu Kaba should be con-firmed according to existing traditional laws.Teba Rava was obliged to repay to Ubu Dulla everything that the latter had paid for his former wife, among others: a number of horses (jara), water buffaloes (karabau), one gold piece of

mamuli, one Maraga of gold, one Tabe-lu of gold, one sword (pahori), several spears and machetes, and a bundle of Nyale as a token of the right to catch Nyale and to perform the Pasola at Ubu Dulla’s request.With reference to the right to catch Nyale and the per- form the Pasola, Ubu Dulla was required to fulfill certain conditions.On the basis of the legend, the village of Wai Wuangu and the people of Wanokaka observe the Wulla Nyale and hold the Nyale feast every year.

ACTIVITIES IN THE LEAD UP TO THE PASOLA

bells. wearing clothes or dresses that catch the eyes.When the full moon comes, a priest (Rato) retires into him-self to pray to the gods, invoking the most favorable time to start the catch-ing of Nyale and the Pasola festivities. Two days prior to the Pasola festivi-ties, on the Wai Tena beach a fish-fight contest (traditional) is staged, which is preluded by narrating of the Rabu Kaba legend. At about 3 o’clock in the morning, a priest initiates the Nyale-welcoming ceremony and procession to the beach where the Pasola is to take place.In the meantime, there are

progress reports made by each clan-house on the Pasola preparations, and also prediction of events that will occur during the Pasola.

THE STAGING OF THE PA-SOLA

Six days after the full moon comes the long-awaited moment signaled by the beat of a drum in the village center which announces to all the villagers that the Pasola will soon start. In the game of Pasola, hundreds of braves take part; the participants divide them-selves into two camps. the Upper village and the lower village camps.Before the Pasola starts, the high priest (Ratu Bakul) says something by way of reminding the participants of the rules of the game, a/o.: both ends of the hola (wooden spear) must be blunt; the hola is to be thrown, not thrust; unhorsed participants (thrown from a horse’s back) must in no way be attacked; an attack must be made

in groups; defeat should be accepted ungrudgingly (Be a good loser!).The High Priest then withdraws from the arena; two other priests (represent-ing each camp) come forward and throw each other a hola as a signal that the game may begin. In a matter of seconds, choice stallions from both camps swarm the arena, each of the riders picking their preys from among the opposing camp and hurling their holas at them.The ‘battle’ becomes more and more violent when specta-tors and supporter cheer the fighters.If there are many causalities, the High Priest will enter the arena and raise his hola as a signal that the game of Pasola must be ended, then mutters a prayer asking the gods to restore the causalities to a good condition. On the other hand, if there are no (serious) causalities, the pasola may go or, un-til late afternoon without any breaks.After the pasola, the fighters return to their villages to be welcomed as he-roes. ***

TOGEAN Islands, consist of 66 islands and being a sub regency of Tojo Unauna regency at Central Sulawesi province.

In these exhibition, Jayanto Damanik created “Conversations” with a remarkably beautiful and deli-cate installation made of used tea bags represent to his childhood memory, and “every tea bag in these installation, tells a story of daily life’s grievances and joys” he said. He began collecting tea bags since 1997.

And also video work “Born as a Wooden Horse” collaboration with Mayu Kanamori responds to diaspo-ra multicultural Asian Australian which had a power-ful massages and touchy subject. “I had to record it twice” he said, as he was very nervous to speak up. However, the video project is beautifully done.

Jayanto Damanik was born in Dolok Masihul, Indonesia and arrived in Sydney, Australia in 1997. Jayanto graduated from Sydney Gallery School of Fine Arts and his works have been selected in numer-ous art prizes and festivals. He attended his first resi-dency in Red Gate Beijing, China. His solo exhibition in February 2014 of tea bags installation will help at NG ART POP-UP Gallery – Sydney. Jayanto will at-tend his second residency in Bali to collaboration with Balinese’s artists. Jayanto currently lives and works in Sydney, Australia. He continues to exhibit his work at national and international venues exploring topics of culture identity.

Muslim fashion designer Dian Wahyu Pelangi or commonly called Dian Pelangi gets

the opportunity to introduce her new fashion design into the international community. Dian has been confirmed to appear in the event ‘Haute Arabia High Tea 2014’ to be held on January 17, 2014 at The Bulgari Hotel, 171 Knightsbridge, London.

“I am very grateful to represent In-donesia at this event. Muslim fashion can no longer be underestimated for the demand is increasing and the de-velopment of Muslim wear in the world needs to be taken seriously,” said Dian Dian Pelangi during a press confer-ence of From Indonesia to the World in Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta recently.

Dian Pelangi, who gets support from the Ministry of Tourism and Cre-ative Economy, is planning to bring her 15 latest Muslim fashion collection to London. “The concept of 15 Muslim wears brought to London is the ‘Royal Kingdom of Indonesia.’ I combine the design of the royal kingdom of Srivijaya in Sumatra and in Java and Bali,” she said.

In addition to Dian, 12 designers from various countries also showcase their collection in the event. For pre-senting first-class Muslim fashion col-lection, Dian admitted that she spent quite a lot of time. Dian must complete 15 Muslim fashion designs that will be shown at the event which will be at-

tended by the VVIP and VIP guests from London and the Middle East, the nobles, fashion bloggers, artists and in-ternational media.

“The collection that will be show-cased in London was made exclusively in two months with great detail. We use high quality materials from Indonesia and we even use gold thread. We really want to show high end Muslim fashion,” she explained.

‘Haute Arabia High Tea 2014 ‘ is a tea party featuring a fashion show of Muslim designers from around the world that based in London. A total of 12 have confirmed to take part in the event, including Dian Pelangi, who is also the only designer from Indonesia chosen to participate in this prestigious event.

Deputy Minister of Tourism and Cre-ative Economy Sapta Nirwandar said that Indonesia’s target to become the center of Muslim fashion needs support because market of Moslem wear is so big if based on the total population of Muslims all over the world that reached 1.6 billion people.

“We do not need to be afraid to compete with foreign Muslim clothing because we have high competitive ad-vantage in terms of colors and distinc-tive design touches,” he said.

Sapta reminded the local designers to think broader that Muslim wear today

is not only for Muslims. The fact is that many non - Muslim people wear Mus-lim clothing and wear hijab to protect them from cold.

Sapta also explained that with her great potential Dian Pelangi could be a designer as famous as Dior. “I think Dian could be like Dior for she has great design and willing to accept challenge, “Sapta said.

Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy feel optimistic that Indone-sia can be the center of world Moslem Wear in 2020 because it has advantag-es over products of other countries.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu officially opened the photo

exhibition that displayed photos taken during the Indonesia World Underwater Photo Contest (IWUPC).

The photography exhibition was held for four days on 9 to 12 January 2014 in the Moulin Rounge Hall, Grand Indonesia, Jakarta. In the event was announced 27 photos chosen as win-ners in the various categories: Best of Show, Basic Compact, Compact Plus Wide, Compact Plus Macro, Wide DSLR, DSLR Macro, and top ten Junior Category.

“The work of photography as a cre-ative economic products are very effec-tive for promoting tourism attractions such as the best diving spots in Indone-sia to the world and showcase our tour-ism excellence. It’s one of our goals to hold this contest,” said Mari Pangestu.

Mari said that through IWUPC it is expected that dive sites spread throughout the Indonesian archipelago known by international community and attract tourists to come. The expected impact is the improvement of the wel-fare of local people.

This is because Indonesia is a para-dise for divers due to its rich and beau-tiful underwater potentials.

IWUPC, which was the first time or-ganized by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economyis an international contest which has a worldwide repu-tation. Therefore, the government pro-vided huge prizes with a total of US$ 200 thousand.

“IWUPC is a race that aims to el-evate the beauty of the Indonesia’s un-derwater to the paper and the preview screen, and we are very optimistic that this will be able to move diving tourism stakeholders throughout the Indonesian to work together to make Indonesia as the “Divers Heaven One Nation 2020” ,” said Director General of Tourism Destination Development Firmansayah Rahim.

The photography contest was held for 11 months from January to Decem-ber 2013, with the largest location of the photo shoot that is across the waters and underwater of Indonesia and in-volves seven internationally renowned jury, namely: Alex Mustard (UK), Ste-phen Wong (Hong Kong), Matt Weiss (USA), Burt Jones (USA), David Es-pinosa (USA), Yoshi Hirata (Japan), and Keri Wilk (Canada).

Recorded until December 2013, the contest was attended by 403 partici-pants with the total number of photos reached 2625. The jury then filtered

and chose as many as 186 photos as a nominations and in the final round as many as 27 photos designated as win-ners in the various categories consist-ed of 18 international and 9 Indonesian participants.

The contest has also successfully attracted diving tourists from various countries. In addition, as many as 178 Dive operators also participated in this photo contest to accompany partici-pants together with local dive guides. Participants must include verification of Dive Operators where they do the div-ing as evidence that the images were taken in the territorial waters of Indone-sia.

Akhyaruddin, Director of Develop-ment of Special Interest Tourism, Con-ventions, Incentives and Events added that previously we do not have the data of Dive Operator and now there are 178 Dive Operators in the database of Kemenparekraf. They already meet the standards in all respects. Dive Operator is critical to the success of responsible and adequate diving attraction.

“With registered dive operators, then we have access to more complete mapping of diving spots. We can also do development, marketing and con-servation actions,” he added.

Indonesian Culture must always be appreciated so that it is not forgotten by the younger generation and con-tinue to be preserved. In order to make it happen, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy ( Kemenparekraf ) held the WOW Concert 2013: Great In-donesian Songbook “ Sound from Rote Ndao “ .

Music of Sasando was beauti-fully played in Jakarta on Thursday ( 12/12/2013 ) night. It accompanied the concert of the Appreciation Night of Wonderful Indonesia. All melodious beauty was taken into concert, ranging from hundreds of Rote Ndao musicians to Sasando orchestra accompaniment.

WOW concert held at the Grand Ball-room of the Ritz - Carlton Jakarta , Pa-cific Place , was held in a collaboration of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and Marketeers to promote Sasando as a musical instrument from Rote Island , East Nusa Tenggara .

“ Sasando is a unique musical in-strument and there is only one in the world. Therefore, we should be proud and preserve it, “said Wamenparekraf Sapta Nirwandar when met after the WOW concert, Thursday ( 12/12/2013 ) night.

Sapta expects Sasando to be listed as UNESCO world heritage objects following angklung that has previously been registered in the list.

“ NTT have Lake Kelimutu and Ko-modo as its point of attraction. Now we are trying to promote Sasando from Rote Island as another attraction of NTT, “ he explained .

The event was enlivened by the per-formance of David Naif , Lea siman-juntak , Monita Tahalea , Ivan Nestor-man , and Dwiki Dharmawan and The Sasando Orchestra . They performed folk songs from Rote and other na-tional songs . “It can be seen from the performance that Sasando is a unique

instrument. Although derived from NTT, but it can accompany songs from other areas , “ Sapta said .

The concert was also attended by Vice Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tja-haja Purnama ( Ahok ) . Ahok with Sap-ta Nirwandar was invited to sing in a Rote song by Ivan Nestorman . Ivan did not hesitate to give his microphone to Ahok and asked him singing together.

“ Let’s get Ahok sing tonight , “ said Ivan as he stepped down from the stage approaching Ahok. “ Mogiee mogiee , “ said Ahok imitating the high-pitched song’s lyrics . Ahok’s performance had successfully drawn audiences’ laughter.

After Ahok , Ivan was giving the mi-crophone to Sapta. “ Mogiee mogiee , “ said Sapta imitating the same song , and again accompanied by laughter from the audience . The event was also attended by invited guests from Melaka , Malaysia , Datuk Seri Idris Haron who was Chief Minister of Melaka . ( bowo )

A global travel search site, Skyscanner, predicts a number of regions in Indonesia, which will begin to be a

popular tourist destination of Indonesia in 2014.

Based on data from Skyscanner is known that there are ten local areas that will be popular in 2014 namely: Labuan Bajo (178 percent), Belitung ( 137 percent ) , Ponti-anak ( 44 per cent ) , Bandung ( 32 per cent ) , Malang ( 25 percent ) , Pangkal Pinang ( 23 percent ) , Mataram ( 23 percent ) , Bali , Tarakan and Bandar Lampung .

Skyscanner in a press release explain-ing domestic tourism will continue to grow,

especially on weekends. This is consistent with the integrated effort performed by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to promote domestic travel which includes the construction of new airports and luxury hotels as supporters.

Preparations of events such as APEC Summit in Bali last October make prog-ress in the development of infrastructure that provides better connections for travel-ers in the country to local tourist destina-tions that are worth a visit . What does it mean to be a foreigner? Who determines what foreign is, and how different is the foreign from the local? This exhibition features works by two foreigners – one, a Westerner, fluent in Indonesian, and knowledgeable about many aspects both Balinese arts and culture, and the other, an Asian, but with no experience of Indonesia aside from the friendship of two Ba-linese artists. Each artist works in a completely different style to the other, and utilizes different media and techniques. But whose work will appear more ‘foreign’, or rather, foreign-er, to Indonesians?

AmmarinKuntawong (Arm) is a printmaker and profession-ally trained artist. While Arm is expert in many different styles of printmaking, his technique of choice is hard ground etching. He produces dreamlike landscapes, entirely devoid of figures, yet somehow extremely alive. His work evokes feelings of the ancient Lanna kingdom, today the northwest region of Thailand, from which he comes.

Christopher Stern has no formal arts education, but has en-joyed sketching and designing for most of his life. With a back-ground in Industrial Design, Chris came to Bali in 1998. In 1999 he opened galeri sembilan in Lodtunduh, Ubud, and through this experience became familiar with the work of many great Balinese

artists. He began painting full-time one year ago. Although still exploring style and subject matter, most of the works for this show consist of solitary figures of unusual attitude and demeanor.

Perhaps the only thread that ties the work of these two artists together, aside from their ‘foreign’-ness, is a degree of introspec-tion and an uncanny access to unconscious thoughts and feel-ings. Both artists, Arm, through landscape, and Chris, through figures, present interior worlds which it is hoped will resonate at some deep level with the public.

Indonesia Resort of The Year 2012/2013 by Indonesia Travel and Tourism Foundation (ITTA). The annual award serves to recognise “the best” across all sectors of Indonesia’s travel and tourism industry. The judging and selection process involves many steps starting with ITTA initial screening, followed by the Industry online voting, then by an independent Board of Advi-sors, comprising of prominent tourism and business personali-ties and lastly validation by a panel of judges from the hospital-ity and related industry.

From preparing meals for royalty and international dignitaries, Jocelyn Argaud is now pleased to

take on the role of Executive Sous Chef at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. Working together with the team, he will be elevating the level of cuisine at this award-winning retreat. The Resort was recently voted #2 on the list of the Top 20 Resorts in Asia and #41 on the Top 100 Hotels & Resorts in the World in the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2013.

A native of Lyon, France, Jocelyn was initially drawn to cooking by watch-ing his mother in the kitchen. That in-spired his culinary passion and, at the age of 16, he started as a kitchen apprentice in a local restaurant. Over the years he has learned and worked in leading establishments in Paris, St. Petersburg, Dubai and southern Cali-fornia.

A notable highlight of Jocelyn’s ca-reer was three years in the kitchens of the Royal Palace of Qatar, serving the royal family as the French and inter-national specialty Chef. He prepared countless dinner parties for visiting

politicians and international dignitaries, and served as the Executive Sous Chef for the royal wedding of a Qatari prin-cess and prince.

For the past two years, Jocelyn has been Executive Sous Chef at Four Sea-sons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa. So what does he enjoy about Four Seasons? “I appreciate the company’s investment in its employees, providing opportunities for growth and develop-ment, and the consistent respect for the Golden Rule – treating others as you wish to be treated yourself.”

“My wife and I have always wanted to work in Bali,” says Jocelyn, “and now this has become an exciting reality for us. We love the peace and tranquility of Sayan. We’re looking forward to explor-ing the countryside by bike and travel-ling all over Bali to learn more about its culture.”

With a background in fine French and international cuisine, Jocelyn will be bringing an elegant panache to Sayan’s authentic Balinese dishes. “I love the different spices and tastes of Bali and I look forward to gaining a bet-ter understanding of Balinese cuisine.”

Without a doubt his favourite local dish is babi guling – suckling pig roasted over a coconut husk fire. It’s a frequent specialty at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, served during the Ubud Night Dinner at Ayung Terrace.

The Resort offers three main din-ing venues: Ayung Terrace for Asian-inspired and Indonesian specialties; the Riverside Café for casual fare dur-ing lunch and a Mediteranean cuisine during dinner; and the Jati Bar for tropi-cal cocktails and light snacks. In addi-tion, there are several weekly themed events, such as Rijsttafel Dinner, Lotus Pond Dinner and outdoor barbecues. A 24-hour In-Villa Dining menu is also available.

Jocelyn will be enhancing the menu with his own French influence, always with a Mediterranean twist. One of his personal specialties is milk-fed veal with morels. “I’m hoping to bring more of a farm-to-table focus by using the very best of Balinese ingredients and working with the local farmers.”

The Laguna, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Nusa Dua, Bali will host an exclusive painting exhibition entitled “From Indonesia with Love” by Sasya Tranggono from 23rd January to 28th February 2014. The

exhibition will display the latest work from the Indonesian painter, featuring water color and mixed media paintings of butterflies, flowers, and traditional Indonesian puppets. The opening event will be held at The Laguna on 23rd January 2014 at 5:30pm, where an exclusive list of guests will be invited to have the privilege of being the first ones to view the artist’s work and meet with the artist herself. The exhibition will be opened by Rev. Timotius Arifin Tedjasukmana.

This solo exhibition is a culmination of Sasya’s career that spans over twenty years. “Wayang” or traditional Indonesian puppets, along with flowers and butterflies were Sasya’s first work in the early stages of her career as a painter.

Having always been fascinated with “wayang”, this main theme is simply chosen as Sasya believes it truly represents Indonesia as a country with diverse culture and it is a perfect portrayal of human life on earth, always full of meaning and stories. The vibrant colors she uses to paint each puppet

figure are symbols of the colors of life: laughter, sorrow, love, joy and deceit.

The butterly paintings in this exhibition are personal ex-pressions that hold a dear meaning to the painter. Each but-terfly expresses her story, symbolizing the metamorphosis of her life. Each brush stroke tells a story of different periods of life’s triumphs and struggles, happiness and sadness.

Born in Jakarta on December 25th, 1963, Sasya was brought up in a Javanese family with conservative traditional values. After completing her Bachelor studies in the United States of America and her Masters degree in The Nether-lands, Sasya started taking art classes and workshops in the Vrije Academie Rotterdam in The Netherlands.

What started as a mere hobby eventually became her full-time career and upon her return to Indonesia, it did not take Sasya long before she held her first exhibition in 1999. Having spent a number of years overseas, she is determined to introduce the culture and values of her home country to the world. Sasya has since held numerous exhibitions in Indonesia, Malaysia, The Phillipines, Singapore and The Netherlands, each showcasing elements of the Indonesian culture.

Collectors of Sasya’s work include Former President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri, the Founder of Air Asia Dato Tony Fernandes, Former Indonesian Minister Joop Ave, and the belated Former President of The Phillipines Corazon Aquino.

The paintings displayed during this exhibition are avail-able for purchase and a part of the proceeds will go to UNI-CEF. Having been partners for over 15 years, Starwood Ho-tels & Resorts and UNICEF have raised more than US$ 25 million and transformed the lives of hundreds of thousands of children worldwide.
