    Burmese

Burmese, a mare, was the Queen’s last ever trooping horse, who retired in 1986.

Whilst she was riding her, six blank shots were fired in the crowds. Although

Burmese was startled, the Queen managed to keep her under control. She died in1990 of old age. After Burmese’s death, a bronze statue was built of her and the

    Queen in Regina, Canada.

    The Queen’s CorgisBy Anya Constantinescu

Ever since Queen Elizabeth II got a Corgi for

    her 18

    th

Birthday, Her Majesty has beenattached to these lovely animals. In 2007, the

Queen had five Pembroke Welsh Corgis: (The

Royal Family’s favourite breed) Monty, Emma,

Linnet, Willow and Holly; four Dorgis:

    (crossbreed of Dachshund- Corgis) Cider,

Berry, Vulcan and Candy; five Cocker

Spaniels: Bisto, Oxo, Flash, Spick and Span

(wow that’s a lot of dogs!).

But the dogs aren’t always well behaved… onsome occasions the Queen or her staff havebeen bitten or hurt by the corgis. In 1954, theRoyal Clock winder, (Leonard Hubbard), wasbitten by Susan upon entering the nursery atthe Royal Lodge,  Windsor.  Later on in theyear, one of the Queen Mother's corgis bit apoliceman on guard duty in London.

In 1968, Peter Doig called for the royal staff toput up a "Beware of the dog" sign at Balmoralafter one of the corgis bit the postman (Oops!).In February 1989 it was reported that theroyals had hired an animal psychologist totame the dogs after they developed a habit ofnipping them and the royal staff.

So even though they are the ‘Royal Corgis’Holly and Willow still get up to mischief!!!

    The Queen’s Fashion

    By Charlotte and Beth Gill

The Queen likes to wear classic outfits. She

knows what suits her and dresses accordingly.

When she is walking about in crowds, she

always wears nice colours so she can be seen

easily. This is so people can always say: “I saw

    the Queen”!!

She likes to wear hats, again so she can be

seen whilst in crowds and she always wears

gloves, as she has to shake a LOT of hands.

She always tries to wear clothes designed by

British designers and it is a great honour to bechosen as a royal dress-maker.

The Queen has worn the same style of shoe for

nearly 50 years. The shoes are made

especially for her by a company in West London

and are worn in by a group of special staff at

Buckingham Palace who have the same size

feet as Her Majesty (size 4!)

When she goes to a state dinner she alwayswears very posh clothes with lots of bling! If it’s

a very special evening she may wear some of

the Crown Jewels for added bling.

The Queen always dresses really well; she

doesn’t follow fashion trends but always looks

    incredible.

    The Queen’s Transport

    by Angus Duncan

    The Queen’s Car

The Queen’s official state car is a Bentley.

It was created by Bentley for the Queen,

on her Golden Jubilee in 2002.The Bentley

is only used on official engagements. Like

all British state cars, the Bentley has a

mount on its roof for an illuminated crest. It

    is a twin turbo-charged 6.78-litre V8

engine. Inside the Bentley is lambswool

    sateen cloth for the seats.

    The Gold Carriage

The Queen’s carriage was built in the London

Workshops in 1762.The coach has been used

for every coronation since George 4th  .The

solid gold carriage is pulled by eight horses.

The carriage was said to be very uncomfortable.

King George 6th  said that this is “one of the

uncomfortable rides of my life”. As it is made of

solid gold, it must be worth a lot. In fact,  it is

    worth £28.5 million today!

    Waxworks of the Queen

    by Jeanne Véron

Madame Tussauds is a major tourist attraction in London displaying famous

waxworks. Queen Elizabeth 2nd  is the most photographed model there. People

pause for selfies and its popularity means staff are regularly working to keep it

    looking in the best condition.

The current figure is the 23rd  to be created of the Queen. It was done in honour of

her Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Four workers spent 150 hours on the Queen’s model

dress sewing 53 000 Swarovski crystals on the white and silver lace gown.

The Queen is the most modelled likeness at Madame Tussauds. It started when she

was a little girl. She was modelled on a rocking horse. Indeed, Madame Tussauds

enjoys a close relationship with the British Royal Family. Since it first opened in

London in 1835, around 500 million people have visited Madame Tussauds.

Princess Elizabeth at Madame Tussauds London in 1930. A waxwork of our young queen in 1955.

Her Majesty the Queen has given the studio team six personal sittings over the

years. From the initial meeting to press launch, a typical Madame Tussauds figure

takes around four months to make, uses a team of twenty skilled artists and costs

£150,000. Five hundred precise body and facial measurements are taken over two

hours at a sitting session. The special wax used to make all the models is incapable

    of melting.

Time for a joke: why is England the wettest country?

Answer:  because the Queen has reigned there for years!

New Technology in the Life and Times of Queen Elizabeth II

    by Harry Mather

When Princess Elizabeth was born in 1926, much of the technology that we have around us today had not

been invented. There have been lots of technological changes during the life of our Queen and it would be

impossible to list them all in my article. I will concentrate on some of the technological changes that have taken

place over the last 90 years.

    Medical improvements

MRI scanners in hospitals have helped lots of people by checking for different types of illnesses. The scanners

can look inside the body to detect illnesses such as cancer.

CommunicationsMethods of communication have developed quickly in recent years. For most of the 20 th  century people

communicated by letter or telephone. The development of mobile phones and the Internet have totally changed

the way people talk to each other with e-mails and text messages. The Queen actually sends texts and e-mails

    to her friends !

    Space Travel

In 1926 the idea of people travelling in space would have been thought of as science fiction. In 1969, man first

set foot on the Moon and, today, space travel to the International Space Station happens quite often and isconsidered routine.

The Queen has travelled to hundreds of different countries during her lifetime but travel into space is one new

technology that she is unlikely to experience !

    Yeoman Warders by Elodie Preston

The guards at the Tower of London are called Yeoman Warders. They are also known as Beefeaters, but no-one can be sure why. They are responsible for looking after any prisoners at the Tower

and safeguarding the British Crown Jewels, but in practice theyact as tour guides and are a tourist attraction in their own right. There are currently 37 Yeoman Warders at the Tower.

    Wikipedia says:

All warders are retired from the Armed Forces ofCommonwealth realms and must be former seniornon-commissioned officers or  petty officers with atleast 22 years of service. They must also hold theLong Service and Good Conduct medal.

Allen’s Top Ten Reasons Why I Would

    Not Want To Be Queen

    By James and Gemma Allen

One reason is that I would be constantly watched.

My second reason is that I cannot just quit unscathed. Remember Edward VII !

My third reason is that I can never express my true beliefs without being scrutinised.

My fourth reason is that I can’t go out without a bodyguard.

My fifth reason is that my hand may hurt from excessive waving.

My sixth reason every time I look at a stamp or coin I see my face.

My seventh reason is I would not like to wear the crown as it looks heavy and uncomfortable.

My eighth reason is I don’t like corgis, I would rather have cats.

My ninth reason is if I wanted to pop to the shops, I would have to wear a disguise. My tenth reason is I would have very little free time due to my public duties.
