But just hours after Brown gavethe Tobin Tax idea fresh impetusin the Scottish town of St Andrews, where the two-day G20 financeministers meeting wrapped up onSaturday, the United States ap-peared to shoot it down in flames.

US Treasury Secretary TimGeithner said his country had notchanged its long-held opposition toan idea first floated in the 1970s.

Later, Geithner told the end-of-meeting news conference that “itis fair to say that we agree that wehave to build a system in which tax-payers are not exposed to risk ofloss in the future”.

But while he refused this time tosay if Washington would activelyoppose a levy on global financialtransactions, his assertion that it was“an idea that has been around a longtime” spoke volumes.

“We found a male rhino with bul-let in his head around a lake in thepark. It was a horrific sight,” saidPradhan, who was informed by tourguides about the injured animal.

“The poachers had cut the hornoff without killing it and it seemedin great pain,” said the chief wardenof the Chitwan National Park insouthwest Nepal, a UNESCO worldheritage site that is popular with for-eign tourists.

Pradhan, who said the incidentwas the worst of his 20-year wild-life career, did everything he couldto save the rhino but it died withintwo weeks.

In Nepal, poaching is gettingworse, conservationists say, and thecountry has emerged as a hub for theillegal trade in animal parts given itsstrategic location between India, thesource of material, and the Chinesemarket.

Porous borders, a lack of coordi-nation between countries in the re-gion and political instability inNepal mean the men with guns andunderworld connections are gainingthe upper hand.

KATHMANDU - Forest warden Narendra Man Babu Pradhan is on the frontline of Nepal’sbattle against poachers and he grimaces as he recalls the recent discovery of an injured rhinowhose horn had been cut off.

horns indicate poaching and traffick-ing is growing,” Shiva Raj Bhatta, spokesman at Nepal’s department ofnational parks and wildlife conser-vation, told AFP.

“Our wildlife is in a critical stage. We believe Nepal is fast developingas an international hub for wildlifetrade and turning into a poacher’sparadise.”

Chitwan Park has lost 24 rhinos— 17 of them killed by poachers —in the past 18 months.

The figures for Asian big cats arenot encouraging either.

A new tiger census carried outearlier this year showed that therewere 121 adult tigers in Nepal’sparks. In two parks in southwesternNepal, the numbers fell by 60 per-cent, from 65 to 26.

World Bank president RobertZoellick, who sent a video messageto a tiger conservation forum at theend of October, said that traders andpoachers were better organised thanpolicymakers and conservationists.

“At present the illegal trade inwildlife is estimated at over 10 bil-lion dollars (annually) across Asia —second only to weapons and drugsmuggling,” he said.

In India, where tiger numbers aredwindling, experts say the borderbetween India and Nepal serves asthe principal route for contrabandfrom India to the main market inChina.

Poachers bribe poor forest dwell-ers to guide them through the densejungles.

Part of the problem in Nepal, ex-plained Bhatta, is that recent politi-cal turmoil has handed smugglers theopportunity to expand their opera-tions.

Nepal’s decade-long civil warbetween Maoist rebels and the stateended in 2006 with a UN-brokeredpeace agreement.

Since then the country has seentumultuous change, with the ultra-leftists winning landmark polls, abolishing the 240-year-old monar-chy and declaring Nepal a secularstate before their government fell inMay.

“Before the peace accord, thearmy used to be mobilised both in-side and outside the parks, whichcreated a psychological deterrent tothe poachers,” Bhatta said.

“Now the army is confined justinside the parks and in barracks.”

MIAMI - Mexico’s government is-sued a hurricane warning on Saturdayas a strengthening tropical storm Idabore down on the country’s Yucatanpeninsula.

Ida was quickly picking up strengthand could again become a hurricanelate Saturday, the Miami-based Na-tional Hurricane Center (NHC) said, adding that the storm threatened to hitthe United States on Wednesday.

At 1800 GMT the center of Ida waslocated about 370 kilometers (230miles) southeast of Cozumel, Mexico, and about 370 kilometers (230 miles)south of the western tip of Cuba, theNHC said.

“Reports from an Air Force Re-serve aircraft indicate that the maxi-mum sustained winds have increasedto near 110 kilometers (70 miles) perhour, with higher gusts,” making it astrong tropical storm.

Ida could become a hurricane lateSaturday, “but weakening is expectedafter Ida enters the Gulf of Mexico,”

the NHC said.Ida was moving northward at 15

kilometers per hour, and was forecastto pick up speed, turn northwest, andtouch the northern portion of theYucatan Peninsula on Sunday, thenmove into the southeastern Gulf ofMexico.

Cuba also issued a tropical stormwarning for the Pinar del Rio prov-ince.

The storm is expected to dump upto 13 centimeters (five inches) of rainover parts of the Yucatan peninsula andCuba, “with possible isolated maxi-mum amounts” of 25 centimeters (10inches).

On Friday, Ida battered Nicaragua’sCaribbean coast despite being down-graded to a tropical depression.

Heavy rains from Ida swelled Nica-raguan rivers, destroying an estimated530 houses and hitting remote com-munities in one of Central America’spoorest nations.

The NHC warned rains could pro-duce flash floods and mudslides inCentral America and the Caribbean.

WASHINGTON - Beth Williamstraveled hundreds of miles to the UScapital to loudly rail against a loom-ing health care bill, then tracked downher congressman for a heart-to-heartover the legislation she was sure hewould support.

The divorced 45-year-old fromCanton, Ohio, lost her job at a carparts plant 20 months ago and has nohealth insurance, but in an impas-sioned encounter with freshmanDemocrat John Boccieri imploredhim not to vote for a bill crafted byhis party that would help cover mil-lions like her but that she and fellowconservatives decry as a financialboondoggle.

Boccieri’s office said Saturday, even as lawmakers raucously debatedthe bill, that he was still undecidedon whether or not to vote for the mostambitious overhaul of its kind in morethan a generation.

“I’m hoping we might strike achord with him,” Williams told AFP.“But I’m worried he’ll vote downparty lines.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosihoped as much, predicting that the 10-year, trillion-dollar measure will earnthe 218 votes needed to pass in a voteas early as Saturday night. It wouldstill need to be approved by the Sen-ate before it reaches President BarackObama’s desk.

Republican leaders vowed a unitedfront against it, and Pelosi facedenough of a struggle to keep Demo-crats from defecting over the bill’slanguage on abortion and immigra-tion that Obama headed to CongressSaturday to personally woo waveringDemocrats like Boccieri.

Sometimes, the effort pays off. After catching an overnight bus to

Washington for a “Kill the Bill” rallyThursday at the US Capitol, Williamsand some 10 others from Ohio’s 16thdistrict made their way to her appoint-ment with Boccieri.

“Our economy has been under at-tack. We’ve lost our free market,”Williams began, describing her fearsof how a government takeover ofhealth care would balloon the nationaldebt and send the United States downthe path to socialized medicine.

“This is something that is dear tomy heart,” she told Boccieri, 40, onthe Capitol steps. “I love this countryto death. I would never go anywhereelse,” she said, her voice cracking.“But if things continue the way thiscurrent administration and this Con-gress is trying to go, I will not hesi-tate to leave this country.”

Boccieri, an air force pilot whoflew missions in Iraq and Afghani-stan, listened somberly as Williamsand others protested the agenda castby Obama on health care, a cap-and-trade system to fight climate change, and what they see as governmenttakeover of the economy.

When pressed on how he’ll votefor the health bill, Boccieri pointedto the sky-high costs of not reform-ing the system.

The congressman has anguishedover the legislation. He and his teamhave held nearly 150 roundtablemeetings and listened to scores ofvoters as part of what he described as“a long, thoughtful, and sometimesemotional” process.

“We need to have a debate abouthow we go forward, because rightnow we have an unsustainable fu-ture with respect to health care,” hetold the group.

YOGYAKARTA - The governmentthrough the Ministry of Social Affairs ispreparing a fund of Rp1.3 trillion to fi-nance a Family of Hope Program (PKH)in 2010, a cabinet minister said.

“The funds are being prepared for720,000 selected poor families. Thesefamilies have to meet the condition be-fore they could receive the assistance,”Social Affairs Minister Salim Segaf AlJufri said here on Sunday.

The minister said that the PKH pro-gram was part of the government’s ef-forts to reduce the number of poor peopleto 8-10 percent in the coming five yearsfrom 14-15 percent at present.

The PKH program is a scheme inwhich the government provides cash toa very poor family (RTSM) based on cer-tain categories in an effort to develop thecountry’s human resources in the fieldof education and health.

Government preparing IDR1.3trillion for family of hope program

The target of the PKH program is anRSTM which has at least one familymember at age between 0 and 15 years,or an expectant mother in selected region.

“The recipient of this program must be amother or women who are taking care of achild in the family concerned. This is intendedto empower women,” the minister said.

He said that the would-be recipientsmust sign an agreement which specifiedthat they should sent children of 7-15years to schools, or children of 16-18years who had not yet finished their nine-year basic education.

Besides, they had also take children of0-6 years to health care centers based on thehealth care procedures. Those who werepregnant were expected to check their healthregularly based on the PKH procedures.

The minister said that the program hadbeen carried out in a number of coun-tries such as in Latin American nations. In Indonesia it had been started in 2007and was expected to continue until 2015.

Summit to boost tourism investment: ASITAthat there are many inconsistent polices in thetourism sector which often overlap between thoseissued by the central government and those bythe regional administrations,” the Asita chairmansaid.

He cited as an example the police numbers ofvehicles for a tourism fleet in Bali and Jakarta.

“In Bali they are required to use private platenumbers while in Jakarta they have to use ser-vice ones. Thus, in Bali, a fleet has to pay taxhigher than one that has to be paid in Jakarta,” hesaid.

Jongki said that many investors were actuallywaiting for the government’s consistent policiesbefore they could go ahead with making a seri-ous investment in Indonesia.

He considered that consistency was importantbecause the tourism business was sensitive topolicy changes. The more frequent change in thepolicy the bigger the loss a tourism businesswould likely to suffer.

Therefore, Asita was calling on policy makersto be consistent in drawing up their policies whichhad to be synchronized with those produced inthe regions.

Besides, geometricof the road should be improved, no-tably at routes that were vulnerableto traffic accident like that ofDenpasar-Gilimanuk route.

Alternatives of fly-over andsubway were expected to answer thecomplain of the Head of Commis-sion III of Bali House, Putu AgusSuradnyana that the traffic jam atDewa Ruci roundabouts and T-junc-tion of Ngurah Rai Airports wereextraordinarily serious. “Justimagine, tourists that would like to

go to Ubud from Nusa Dua shouldtake up to 2 hours due to traffic jamat those points,” he said.

For that purpose, there shouldbe braveness of regional governmentto re-offer the fly-over and subwaybefore the traffic jam was gettingmore serious. Chiefly, the one hap-pened at Dewa Ruci roundabouts. His party also expected that govern-ment dared allocate a budget for thedevelopment of road and Serangan-Tanjung Benoa Bridge when therewere no investors showing interestto take the road project.

Previously, the road andSerangan-Tanjung Benoa, Nusa DuaBridge has been offered for twotimes to Toll Road DevelopmentAuthority (BPJT) to look for inves-tor. However, no investors looked tobe interested as it was not profitable.Lately, there was an issue that inves-tors from China and Korea wouldhave an interest to build the toll roadand bridge. Yet, the party of BaliHouse felt pessimistic it could berealized. “The route is short, only 9km and dominant users will be mo-torbike,” he said. (029)

NEW DELHI - India’s pre-mier rolled out the welcome matfor foreign investors Sunday, promising to step up economicreforms to draw global funds andput the country on a high growthpath.

Prime Minster ManmohanSingh, speaking to a blue-chip in-ternational economic summit, saidpolicy would be guided by thedesire to create “an investorfriendly environment.”

India had attracted foreign di-rect investment of more than 120billion dollars since 2001-02 butmore was needed to develop itsvast economy, he told a WorldEconomic Forum meeting in NewDelhi.

“You are all welcome in ourefforts,” he told 600 delegatesfrom around the world, adding thatthe government wanted to pushthrough reforms to make the coun-try more attractive for investment.

“We need to strengthen ourfinancial system in various waysto make sure it can provide whatis needed for our development,”he said, promising to open up in-surance and other financial sectorsmore aggressively to generatefunds. Since winning a decisivere-election victory in May, theCongress-led government hasbeen able to pursue reformsblocked in the last parliament bycommunist opposition.

He said the government wasaiming for 6.5 percent growth inthis fiscal year to March 2010 de-spite the worst monsoon in nearlyfour decades that has hit agricul-ture, and he forecast “over sevenpercent” expansion next year.

“I am happy India has beenable to face the global economicdownturn better than most othercountries in the world,” he said.

WOLFSBURG - Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus calls the global economic crisis“an excellent opportunity to reflect and redesign” businesses, and devote creative ones to solvingsocial problems.

poor in Paris.“It’s really a source of inspiration,”

Danone representative EmmanuelFaber told a press conference in thecompany of Yunus and the othergroups.

He underscored the “new processes, new ideas, new ways of working thatsocial business has driven into themainstream way of Danone doing busi-ness.”

The big group’s have not decidedto ditch profits altogether but are set-ting up subsidiaries to work on the so-cial business model in addressing prob-lems with the environment, health care, nutrition and unemployment.

“Each one is dedicated to solving aparticular social problem,” Yunus said.

Hans Reitz, co-founder with Yunusand director of the Grameen CreativeLab that brought together varied sec-tors to brainstorm for solutions, said hisgroup would launch seven small com-panies in Germany with no more thanfive to seven employees.

“You can start small and give it atry, find out if it works or if it doesn’twork,” he said, and share the resultsacross what Faber said was now “a glo-bal network of people thinking alongthese lines.”

Faber quoted Danone founderAntoine Riboud as stressing “therecould not be long-term wealth creationwithout social progress.”

Peter Graf of SAP warned mean-

while that if they failed to act on globalissues, there was “a danger of compa-nies losing their social license to dobusiness.”

He called the threat “hugely under-estimated as the public gets more andmore aware of the crises that we arefacing.”

Danone plans to launch a project tohave 300 people deliver fresh dairyproducts to Paris area shops on elec-tric-powered tricycles. The driverswould be ex-convicts or others facedwith marginal living situations and theplan would cut carbon dioxide emis-sions from delivery vans withdrawnfrom circulation, he said.

In Germany, Reitz is experimentingwith business loans to 15-year-oldschool children to show them theycould later be self-employed.

Making cakes, candles and musicCDs allowed German and immigrantyouth to “start a small business and cre-ate an identity,” he said.

“You can create a job for others, youdon’t have to wait to have a job,” Reitzstressed as the eurozone struggles toreduce chronic unemployment.

Yunus believes social businessescan unite public sector and charity goalswith the dynamics of an enterprise.

“If you can design businesses, bringthe power of business, and the technol-ogy of businesses and the creativity ofbusinesses to bear on a problem, maybewe can solve it,” he said.

“Our medium term objective isto achieve eight to nine percentgrowth.”

Singh said “clearly the worstis behind” the global economy buthe added the path to sustained re-covery “will be long and somewhatuncertain.”

This meant India would haveto rely heavily on domestic demandto power its growth, he said.

Overhauling the country’s di-lapidated infrastructure — roads, airports, ports and other services —would be key to keeping theeconomy on the recovery trail, hesaid. He added it was vital to en-sure growth was “inclusive” andimproved the lives of the estimated40 percent of the nearly 1.2 billionIndians who still live in extremepoverty.

SHANGHAI- The officiallaunch of Apple’s iPhone in Chinahas been disappointing at best formobile operator China Unicom, with the grey market still boom-ing and competitors offering wor-thy alternatives, experts say.

Unicom unveiled Apple’siconic handset in Beijing on Oc-tober 30, but the few hundredpeople who braved the cold windand rain to snap up the iPhonepaled in comparison to hordes seenin New York in 2007 or Tokyo andHong Kong last year.

Vendors and experts say the highprice, disabled WiFi and wide rangeof other options has so far doggedsales in the world’s biggest cell phonemarket of nearly 720 million users.

Unicom said last week that ithad sold 5,000 units in the firstweekend, but has released no fig-ures since.

TOKYO – It may sound like a sci-fi vision, but Japan’s space agencyis dead serious: by 2030 it wants to collect solar power in space andzap it down to Earth, using laser beams or microwaves.

outside the Earth’s atmosphere.“Since solar power is a clean and

inexhaustible energy source, we be-lieve that this system will be able tohelp solve the problems of energyshortage and global warming,” re-searchers at Mitsubishi Heavy In-dustries, one of the project partici-pants, wrote in a report.

“The sun’s rays abound in space.”The solar cells would capture the

solar energy, which is at least fivetimes stronger in space than onEarth, and beam it down to theground through clusters of lasers ormicrowaves.

These would be collected by gi-gantic parabolic antennae, likely to

be located in restricted areas at seaor on dam reservoirs, said TadashigeTakiya, a spokesman at the JapanAerospace Exploration Agency(JAXA).

The researchers are targeting aone gigawatt system, equivalent toa medium-sized atomic power plant, that would produce electricity ateight yen (cents) per kilowatt-hour,six times cheaper than its currentcost in Japan.

The challenge — including trans-porting the components to space —may appear gigantic, but Japan hasbeen pursuing the project since1998, with some 130 researchersstudying it under JAXA’s oversight.

Last month Japan’s Economy andTrade Ministry and the Science Min-istry took another step toward mak-ing the project a reality, by select-ing several Japanese high-tech giantsas participants in the project.

Dinosaur prints found on NZealand’s South Islanddiscovered in two North Island loca-tions. The footprints were found byscientist Greg Browne in the remoteWhanganui Inlet in the northwest ofNelson at the top of the South Island.

They are spread over 10 kilometresand in one area there are up to 20 foot-prints, Browne said.

Browne, a sedimentologist, be-lieves the footprints belonged to sau-

ropods — plant-eating dinosaurs whichwere among the largest animals to havelived, growing up to six metres (yards)in length and weighing several tonnes.

He said he carefully considered allpossible geological and biological ex-planations for the features in the rockand was able to rule them out one byone. His investigation included com-parisons with dinosaur footprints insimilar-aged rocks in other parts of theworld.

The footprints were made in beachsands and were probably quickly cov-ered and preserved by mud from sub-sequent tides.

“What makes this discovery special

is the unique preservation of the foot-prints in an environment where theycould easily have been destroyed bywaves, tides, or wind,” Browne said.

As with much of New Zealand, northwest Nelson was largely sub-merged between 70 and 20 millionyears ago and the footprints wouldhave been covered by hundreds ofmetres of marine sediments.

However, after the country wasuplifted and northwest Nelsonemerged from the sea, the overlyingsedimentary rock has been erodedaway over the past 20 million yearsto expose the footprints again,Browne said.

An undated handout photo obtained on November 8 shows scientistGreg Browne next to one of six 70 million-year-old footprints foundin various locations in the Nelson region. They are the first dinosaurfootprints found in New Zealand although bones, mostly vertebrae, have been found in two North Island locations.

iPhone’s WiFi functions havebeen disabled to comply with Chi-nese government regulations — an-other downside for tech-savvy buy-ers who know they can easily findfake and smuggled versions that willoffer them more complete options.

Liu Dongping, the Shanghai-based business director for vendorQuickway Industrial Corp. Ltd.,said he had sold dozens of UnicomiPhones so far, but called the lackof WiFi a “critical problem”.

“Unicom’s iPhone has got alukewarm response from the mar-ket so far,” Liu said, also pointingto the limited gaming softwareavailable on the handset.

“Most customers who are inter-ested in buying iPhones are high-end customers. They are smartenough to understand how qualityvaries with price and model.”

SHANGHAI- Tiger Woods was widely ex-pected to be in the hunt when it came to thecrunch at the HSBC Champions on Sunday, butthe frustrated American world number one hadan off day.

Woods started the final round in joint sec-ond place, two shots behind eventual winner PhilMickelson but faded to finish five strokes adriftafter a round of 72.

Nothing went right, he said. “Anything that could go wrong went wrong

for me,” he said. “Just one of those days where Ididn’t put it together at the right time.”

He self-destructed with a double bogey onthe fourth when he drove his ball into an adja-cent canal and had to take a drop.

He recovered to leave himself with a four-foot putt for a bogey but the ball agonisinglybounced out of the hole and he lost two shots.

It didn’t get any better with another bogeyon the sixth, when his 10-foot downhill par puttran five feet past the hole.

He was clearly getting frustrated and whena camera clicked as he was teeing off at the sev-enth and his shot found a bunker, he shouted “Ijust can’t get a swing” and started swearing un-der his breath.

The seventh looked like finishing him. Hisshot out of the bunker found the rough and thenhe put himself in the sand again to drop anothershot. Mickelson birdied that hole and Woods wassix behind his arch rival.

But three consecutive birdies, on nine, 10and 11, put him back in the hunt and two moreon 14 and 15 raised his hopes before a bogey onthe last summed up his disappointing day.

He said there was nothing wrong with hisgame, it was just not his day.

ROME- Juventus closed the gap on InterMilan at the top of Serie A to four points onSunday after a thrilling 5-2 win against Atalantain Bergamo.

Mauro Camoranesi scored twice in asmany minutes to give the Bianconeri a 2-0 leadat half-time. Valdes reduced the deficit early inthe second half, but a Felipe Melo scorcher re-stored the two-goal advantage four minuteslater.

Fabio Ceravolo set up a grandstand finishon 71 minutes, but late goals from Diego andDavid Trezeguet, with his record-equalling167th for the club, left the scoreline lookingslightly harsh for a valiant Atalanta.

Despite the five goals, and three other ef-forts ruled out, Juventus coach Ciro Ferrarapraised his team’s defensive performance.“This is the spirit I want Juve to play with,” hesaid. “We are playing a different system at themoment with playmakers but we also have towork hard. Those at the front are the first thathave to defend so we don’t get left one-on-oneat the back.

“We’ve only lost one in five now and weare getting better at playing without the ball - asign of a great side. We’re working on confi-dence and obviously this result will help us alot.”

Hoping to banish memories of their lastouting in Serie A - a 3-2 loss to Napoli - Juventusbegan in positive fashion on a difficult, rain-drenched surface. Camoranesi, scorer of theChampions League winner in midweek againstMaccabi Haifa, set his sights on 10 minutes witha scuffed shot which was turned around the postby a diving Andrea Consigli. After Trezeguethad a header ruled out for offside, Atalanta al-most snatched the lead on 33 minutes asCristiano Doni turned sharply 12 yards out butcould only flash his shot inches wide.

The chance seemed to spark Juventus intoaction. Fabio Grosso turned and crossed forCamoranesi to bury a header at the near post togive Juve the lead on 36 minutes. The two com-bined a minute later with Grosso’s centre, this

as Barcelona kept up a one-point lead over Realwith a 4-2 win over Real Mallorca. Barcelonacoach Pep Guardiola sent out a second-stringside with Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, LeoMessi and Dani Alves all missing from the start-ing line-up.

Barcelona dominated the game and wentahead through Pedro after a delightful back-heelfrom Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Jose Nunes levelledfor Mallorca, heading home at the far post froma corner but Barcelona scored twice in the run-up to half-time.

Pedro scored again and then Thierry Henrygrabbed his first goal after an injury-plaguedstart to the season. Mallorca were unable makeany real inroads after the break and substituteMessi increased Barcelona’s advantage from thepenalty spot. There was still time at the end fora consolation from Alhassane Keita.

“It wasn’t all bad,” said Guardiola. “Lastyear nobody gave us any chance and each stepthat we made was met by surprise, but this yearthere is no room for surprises.”

A battling performance by Deportivo LaCoruna saw them keep up their push for a placein Europe with a 2-0 win at Getafe despite be-ing reduced to nine men.

WOLVERHAMPTON- Arsenal under-lined their credentials as serious challengers forthe Premier League title with an imperious 4-1win over Wolverhampton on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger’s side were widely writ-ten off as also-rans after an unsettling pre-sea-son, but they look increasingly capable of push-ing Chelsea and Manchester United for theEnglish crown.

The Gunners were at their eye-catchingbest at Molineux as own goals from RonaldZubar and Jody Craddock were followed bystrikes from Cesc Fabregas and AndreyArshavin to move them above United into sec-ond place - two points behind leaders Chelsea.

Wenger’s team are playing some of the bestfootball in the country at present and are un-questionably the most lethal, with 55 goals inall competitions. Arsenal, who have gone fourseasons without a trophy, are determined tomuscle in on the title race this season and 24hours before United and Chelsea locked hornsat Stamford Bridge, they put down their ownmarker.

They are averaging three goals a game andhit that mark before half-time with a mix ofbrilliance and sheer good luck. Wolves playeda major part in their own downfall, even thoughboss Mick McCarthy had insisted they wouldnot roll over for the only team he would pay towatch in the top flight.

time from the left, cleared straight to Camoranesiand the Argentina-born player picked the samespot perfectly from the edge of the area to doublethe lead.

Stunned temporarily, Atalanta respondedfive minutes into the second half when TiberioGuarente threaded a delightful ball to Valdeswhose shot found its way past Gianluigi Buffonto cut the deficit.

Juve hit back immediately. Within fourminutes, Christian Poulsen and Felipe Melo hadgoals disallowed for offside before the Brazil-ian picked up the ball on 55 minutes and arrowedin an unstoppable strike from 25 yards.

The home side kept battling. On 70 min-utes, Valdes turned Caceres on the edge of thebox and bent a shot just wide of the angle. Aminute later and Fabio Ceravolo practised thesame trick on Grosso on the right, this time find-ing the net with a curling left-foot shot to re-duce the deficit to 3-2.

Atalanta pushed for the equaliser but theywere caught twice in the last six minutes as firstDiego collected a Camoranesi centre to stabexpertly home, then Trezeguet fired home a fifthfrom close range to make it 5-2.

Rampant Arsenal put bite on Wolves In a 14 minute spell, McCarthy’s side did

not so much roll over as get well and trulymauled. Zubar started the downfall when henudged Fabregas’s 28th minute corner into hisown net after goalkeeper Wayne Hennesseymade a hash of collecting inside the six-yardbox.

Wenger hardly needed any luck but it camein bucketloads for a team he reckons could beas exciting as his ‘Invincibles’, who wentthrough the entire 2003-04 league season with-out defeat. In the 36th minute, Eduardo’s chipwas heading miles wide of the far post untilstriking Craddock’s head to loop overHennessey. If the first two were lucky, the thirdfrom Fabregas was pure class.

The Arsenal captain finished off a movehe started on the half-way line after Robin VanPersie’s brilliant lay-off. McCarthy knows lifeat this level was always going to be tough andthings are not likely to get any easier at Chelseanext week.

At least Wolves, who are third from bot-tom of the table, limited the damage in the sec-ond period and restricted Arsenal to a solitarystrike from Arshavin. The Russia winger vol-leyed in from the edge of the area - after a poorpunch from Hennessey - to increase McCarthy’smisery. Craddock’s 89th minute header will beno consolation for McCarthy who has anotherrelegation scrap looming and the former Re-public of Ireland manager has his work cut outto survive.
