here is a well developed food culture in Wales
which combines natural farming systems, artisan producers and large scale manufacturers
supplying retail, hospitality and public sector customers.
The food produced in Wales is very diverse and includes
obvious Welsh products such as Laverbread and Bara
Brith but also Welsh wines and beers, cheeses, meats
and baked products.
Welsh food and drink products have established an
international reputation. Welsh Lamb and Welsh Beef
hold protected food name status and have been joined
recently by Pembrokshire Early Potatoes and HalenMn/Anglesey Sea Salt which emphasises quality and
provenance.
Increasingly, our excellent eating establishments in
Wales are serving a wider range of Welsh produce andit is often sourced locally.
Food and Drink Wales provides an identity covering
the whole range of food and drink produce from
Wales and when you see the logo you know you are
supporting our food and drink producers.
This guide provides you with information on the
best places to eat out in south east Wales. Why not try
our wonderful food and drink which will leave you with
a lasting experience and an appetite for more.

EATING OUT WALES16
ne of the greatest things about puttingtogether a guide such as Eating Out Walesis the fact that it allows Mike and I the
chance to see the very best cooking thats on offerhere in south Wales.
Its great to see new food trends coming throughand its always a pleasure to meet new chefs andrestauranteurs. And of course, its always wonderfulto try the food thats given to us to photograph.
Without doubt, the big trend thats comingthrough this year is keeping it local; buying localproduce from local businesses and supporting thelocal economy. There really is a firm emphasis onrestaurants serving food that has been bought froma farmer or supplier down the road and thatssomething we absolutely love!
We hope that you enjoy this years EatingOut Wales it really is a treat. Weve seen someamazing meals being prepared this year and wehope that you enjoy eating them as much as weenjoying photographing and writing about them.
Why not read on and see what culinary delightsare on offer right on your doorstep?
To help you decide if a venue is right for youweve devised the key thats printed on the right ofthis page.

onveniently located just minutes from junction 28
of the M4, The 3 Mughals boasts an incredible
menu full of modern and traditional cuisine, as well
as some authentic family recipes brought to the restaurant
by the chefs. Its this extra special addition that makes thisaward-winning restaurant stand out from the rest.
Highlights include the Pudina Paneer Tikka from the
starters menu, Jhinga Zaffarani, which is served as either a
main or starter, and the Punjabi butter chicken.
The Pudina Paneer Tikka is a shashtlick of the
restaurants own home-made cottage cheese with bell
peppers and pineapple. Refreshing and light, its a great
starter.
Jumbo king prawns marinated in a rich blend of saffron
and yogurt with caraway seeds, the Jhinga Zaffarani isserved with a cooling mint yogurt dip and is truly delicious.
The depth of flavours, combined with the high-quality
prawns, are a match made in heaven.
For an authentic taste, why not try the delicious
Punjabi butter chicken? Originating from the street-side
eateries of Punjab, this chicken tikka dish is simmered in
satin-smooth tomato gravy with a flavouring of kasoori
methi. It really is exquisite!
Of course, the menu features all of the standard
Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine youd expect, such as kormaand bhuna dishes, and these sit very nicely alongside the
restaurants speciality selections. All dishes are available for
dining in and to take out.
