Dear Eastminster Family,

Three years ago Jubilee Worship averaged forty people in at-tendance and met on Sunday evenings. The Bradley Lunch Buddies ministry didn't exist, our youth ministry was significantly understaffed , and the Parlor had yet to be opened up to the Narthex.

While these are only a few of the ministry initiatives that have come to pass in the past three years, and while there are many people behind each of these, I want to take a minute to thank our Deacons and Elders. Specifically, I want to acknowledge the men and women who are completing three years of serving as Officers and to welcome those who compose the class of 2015.

Please join me in thanking the following for their faithful service:

deacons: Agnes Asman, Elizabeth Black, Melanie DaVega, Fred Hanna, Darla Helms, Tyler Hudson, Greg Moise, Kit Pound, Cheryl Yates.

Elders: Don Barton, Martha Casto, Sara Davis, Dennis Daye, Bob Derrick, Lucie Eggleston, Walter Hayden, Janet Katz, Susi McWilliams, Patrick Rayfield.

This past Sunday also saw a new class of Officers ordained and installed. I encour-age you to pray for these people.

deacons: Sharon Besley, Jeff Burden, Abbot Carnes, Simpson Fant, Carol Hill, John Hudson, Susan Laird, Kay Lydon, Hagood Tighe, Scot Verzyl.

Elders: John Barr, Tara Barr, Ginger Bates, Jane Brissette, Andy Lowrey, Alison McGowan, Michael Schraibman, Steve Searcy, Marilyn Stradtman, Charlie Weston.

Your prayers for Eastminster Church, her pastors, officers and members matter. Pray that we would, together, and guided by the Holy Spirit, be the church our Lord has for us to be.

Grace and Peace,

Brad

Eastminster Presbyterian Church 65th Anniversary

Eastminster will celebrate their 65th anniversary on Sunday, February 3. In appreciation for the ministry of the church and all who have helped shape the church,

we will print a few snippets of our past history.

our devotional Booklets - In 1977 one of the most meaningful traditions of Eastminster began with the publication of our first Lenten Devotional booklet. Beginning with Ash Wednesday, the booklet featured devotionals written by Eastminster members - one for each day of the week until Easter. Typically the devotionals were introduced by an appropriate verse of scripture and ended with a short prayer. The booklets were free and could be picked up at several key locations around the church. Over two decades later - in 2001 - the Lenten schedule was succeeded by Advent Devotional booklets, following the same format as their predecessors, with the booklets beginning on December 1 and continuing through Christmas Day. These booklets provide inspirational messages for our members, as we celebrate the birth of Jesus, and at the same time, showcase the talents and depth of thought of Eastminster members.

JESUS Rocks, January 13Join us in Thompson Hall at 5:00 p.m. for dinner (don’t forget your $3.00 for dinner) with

activities in the gym following from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Remember, friends are always welcome!

Stephen Ministers Commissioned on Sunday, January 6The Stephen Ministry began at Eastminster in 2001 and is a vital ministry at Eastminster.

With the addition of these five new members, we now have 16 active Stephen Ministers. We are pleased to have these newly trained members as Stephen Ministers: Ed Black, Jeff Casto, Betsy Leopard, Betty Meadows and Peter Zornow. Welcome them into this ministry role of caring for people with life challenges and changes.

A man ventured to the top of Mount Sinai to at-tempt talking to God. He asked God what a million years were to Him, and a voice came down, saying,

“A minute.” The next question was what a million dollars means to God, and the answer came down, “a penny.” The man then asked, “Will You give me a million dollars?” God answered, “In a minute.”

Cradle Roll Sunday, January 13If you are the parent of a baby born in 2012, Eastminster will celebrate Cradle Roll

More Than Two & A Half Tons? Are you wondering what this refers to? In December of 2012 EPC members donated

797 lbs. of peanut butter. As of the end of 2012, EPC had donated 5,470 pounds. That is more than the 4,970 pounds we donated in 2011, and the 3,778 that we donated in 2010. Way to go EPC!

Table BlessingsThe new Eastminster Cookbook “Table Blessings” is available for purchase in the parlor even if you did not order early! If you are unable to pick one up on Sunday, contact [email protected] to find out how you may purchase one.

Did you know . . . … Eastminster gave money to over 30 local missions in 2012 total-

ing over $190,000. Some of these ministries include Cooperative Ministries, Theological Training for Prisoners, Shepherd’s Center, Midlands Sexual Trauma Service and the Free Medical Clinic. Laura Long

vite the congregation to join us! There is room for 18 EPC members or friends to join us as we find our Presbyterian roots in Scotland. Along the way the choir will give two or three concerts which we will all enjoy in beautiful historic churches. We will learn about John Knox and the spread of religious independence in the 15-1600s, and the impact of that reformed faith to our colonies here in the New World. A good time will be guaranteed for all! Registration forms and informa-tion brochures are located at the Welcome Desk in the narthex and in the recep-tion hall near the ministers’ offices. Contact Fredna Lee or Jane Brissette with any questions. [email protected] and [email protected]
