Welcome Our Newest Resi-We are glad to welcome Sister Norma Webber to the Senior Living Community.
Norma was born on May 8th in Everett, Washington. Many of her favorite childhood memories are
in that little town. At the age of 10, Norma and her family moved to California for a change in the
scenery as well as a warmer climate. Due to her mother’s illness, Norma, took care of her siblings,
two brothers and a sister, while her father worked to bring food into the home.
Soon after, she met the love of her life and got married on November 3, 1939. They were married
for sixty-nine beautiful years. Together, she and her husband were
blessed with three beautiful daughters. She is also proud of her many
grandchildren, great-grandchild, and her eight great-great grandchil-
dren.
Shortly after she married, the couple moved to New York. This move
was something new for her but the challenging lifestyle was something
she was prepared to handle. Getting around the streets of New York
can be a tiring hassle but that did not stop her from touring the city.
When she needed something from the store, Norma did not want to
have her husband get it for her, especially after a very long tiring day
at work. Instead, she walked down the streets, took the subways, or
jumped in a taxi to get to where she needed to be.
Norma has always enjoyed the thrill of trying new things, however
her ultimate passion will always be traveling. With her husband’s busy career as an aircraft
engineer, she had the opportunity to see many countries around the world. One of Norma’s favorite
memories was when her husband arrived home from working in Florida, he surprised her with a
trip to the Bahamas, which was one of her favorite vacations.
Along with her memorable stories, Norma expressed how glad she is to be part of the Senior
Living Community. Norma joined Eastern Star soon after her husband became a Mason, she be-
longs to the Tahquitz Victoria Chapter. Norma was initiated into Eastern Star on January 10, 1956.
She is very proud of her 50 year pin and looks back at the great memories with her Eastern Star
sisters. She is looking forward to this next chapter in her Eastern Star book with the SLC.
Eastern Star Highlight– Our Boosters
On Saturday, July 12th the Booster Club came to visit the Residents of the Senior Living Community for a
fun and exciting afternoon. Twenty-eight residents attended to be entertained by the “Cup of Water”
who performed many patriotic songs. Afterwards the residents were happy to see one of their favorite
treats “Krispy Kreme Donuts” that were shared by our wonderful Boosters Club.
The Boosters Club is a 501c non-profit organization, who’s entire
mission is to bring enjoyment to the lives of our Residents..Each year
at Grand Chapter the Boosters Club hold their annual meeting to dis-
cuss the needs of the residents at the Senior Living Community.
Boosters are making a difference in the lives of the residents. Below
is a little history on how and when this wonderful club was formed.
Brother Bart Bodnar, President of the Boosters, was at a luncheon at
the original Eastern Star Home in Brentwood, Ca with the Worthy
Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron back in 1984. The subject came about that the Eastern Star
Membership of California wanted to do more for the residents of the Eastern Star Home. With that single
conversation in 1984, the dream became a reality, and in 1985 the Home Board of Trustee’s gave the
Boosters a sanction to begin their good work for the Residents of the home. The Boosters Club have a
monthly visit planned, showcasing fun entertainment, playing
cards & board games, and any other special request our delightful
residents can think of.
The Booster clubs desire is to “reach out to every resident at the
Eastern Star home and make sure they feel included in the Eastern
Star Chapters all over the state of California, and to remind them
they are appreciated for being so dedicated to the Eastern Star fam-
ily “says Brother Bart Bodnar.
The Booster have donated countless items to the Residents Country Store. Both with individual items and
gift cards to purchase. The Boosters support for the Residents is a year around promise, everything from
special requests, to Country Store & Postage Stamps to Christmas presents, all given with love from the
heart, with each Resident in mind! For more information on how you too can make a difference in the lives
of our Residents, see Erin Wilson and she will give you all the details….

It’s Never Too Late to Learn It is never too late to learn a new task, hobby, or an activity. At the Senior Living Community,
residents have the opportunity to learn an array of new tasks. Whether you need help with your
computer login instructions, or lessons with Microsoft Office, the activity department is here to
help!
One of our long time residents, Ginelle Winchester, is taking up the skill of using the type writ-
er. At the amazing age of 104 years old, she wants to
continue to keep going strong!
Many years ago, Ginelle began writing to her friends,
she has made many pen pals over the years and with the
letters she receives, she always says a little prayer for
the person, wishing them safety and love. Even though
Ginelle enjoys handwriting, she is eager to excel at
typewriting.
No matter how old the age, it is never too late to try
something new. Whatever the task may be, the activity
department is here to help you!
Resident Spotlight
On Saturday, August 10th, the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron will be at the
Senior Living Community for a ceremony celebrating Sister Elizabeth Archibald in receiving
her 50 year pin.
Elizabeth was first initiated in Eastern Star, November 1963. Her husband being a Mason,
urged her to join Eastern Star but it was not until Elizabeth’s coworker, Bea Hohn, brought her
a petition that Elizabeth decided to join. She became a member
at the Ungava Chapter #106.
Elizabeth began her involvement in Ungava Chapter as a
Hostess, she would serve refreshments after the meetings and
socialize with the other members. Elizabeth was also involved
in the Star Point and served as Adah, Ruth, Esther, and Martha.
She went in the North and became an Associate Conductress
and a Conductress. She continued on the Star Point and moved
to the West. In 1977, Elizabeth went to the East, where she
became the Worthy Matron of Ungava Chapter.
Her work in the Ungava Chapter was very enjoyable and
rewarding, Elizabeth has made many long-term and loyal
friends throughout her many years in the Eastern Star. She
enjoyed serving and being involved in all aspects of Eastern Star. It seems the tradition has been
continued as Elizabeth’s family is also involved in the Eastern Star. Her two daughters and
granddaughter all followed Elizabeth’s footsteps and went through The Line. Her grandson was
also involved in the DeMolay. Elizabeth became a resident at the Senior Living Community on
July 18th, 2011 and enjoys having so many sisters under one roof to socialize with throughout
the day.
