THE COLLECT O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. THE FIRST READING:

READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the Acts of the Apostles Chapter 11 beginning at the 19th verse.

Now the believers in the risen Lord who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoeni'cia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to none except Jews. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyre'ne, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number that believed turned to the Lord. News of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad; and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose; for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a large company was added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul; and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church, and taught a large company of people; and in Antioch the disciples were for the first time called Christians.

Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. THE EPISTLE

READER: A Reading from the Word of God written in the First Letter of John Chapter 4 beginning at the 7th verse. Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No man has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his own Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world. Whoever

confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. In this is love perfected with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and he who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because he first loved us. If any one says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. From the Rector’s Desk Greetings:

It is a very special privilege to participate in the celebration of the Holy Mass.

Our worship, contemplation and meditation at the Paschal Triduum would help us to understand the important nature of this service. As we enter the Paschal weekend we would recall our Lord’s giving to us from his own hands the Holy Eucharist.

Within this sacred rite we have the opportunity to communicate with God in the sacramental use of bread and wine. These become the body and blood of Christ in which we share, so that Christ may abide with us and we with him.

The Holy Eucharist also gives us an opportunity to engage our local community, society and world at a deep and profound level.

This is especially so during the Intercession. Prayer has been described by George Guiver as the natural desire to ask God for things and that this is at the heart of human motivation to intercede.

One of the main aspects of intercession according to Guiver, includes offering people or situations to God in thanksgiving, grief and concern even without a clear picture of the optimum outcome.

Intercession during worship is mentioned in various places within our sacred biblical texts, such as 1 Timothy

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet

and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. (1 Timothy 2: 1 - 2)

Leading the intercessions at Mass requires more than the ability to read; but springs from our own prayerful spirit.

Participating in worship means preparation. It suggests that during the week we bear in mind the ministry that we are to perform in the Mass and asking for the grace of God to do this to the best of our ability.

It also suggests an awareness as to why is taking place in the world, in the society and local community and in the church both at the universal and diocesan level and by extension within the local congregation.

This awareness helps us especially at those prayers that call for various insertions such as Intercessions D, F and G in the Book of Common Prayer (CPWI).

In the final analysis our intercession is our request for God’s grace that both what we do in the liturgy and what we do in life may be connected by our serious consideration of God’s world and our intention to influence and transform the world in which we live.

On Saturday May 16th at 5:00pm in the Church Hall Dr. Joanne Brathwaite will address the the Mother’s Union on Managing Stress. All members of the congregation are invited

The Mother’s Union Picnic will be held on Whitmonday (May 25) The venue is the King George V Park. Contribution Adults $20:00; Children $15:00. Buses will leave the car park at 9:30 am.

The Mother’s Union invites all to their concert on Sunday May 31 beginning at 4:00pm. Contribution $5:00

ANNUAL SERVERS’ SERVICE The annual Whitmonday Mass for all Servers across the Diocese will be held in the St. Luke’s Church. the new elected executive will be installed within the Service. All St. David’s Servers are to attend.

HOME FOR SUMMER It is wonderful to have home with us those studying overseas. It was great to see Donald Leacock at Mass last Sunday

USING SPECIFIC HERBS

• Basil & oregano are great for tomato-based dishes. Oregano is also good with beef (i.e. hamburgers).

• Sage is commonly found in poultry seasonings. It is good with pork dishes & with mushrooms.

• Ginger is a stronger spice. It is great with chicken alone or on carrots.

• Cinnamon is a sweeter spice & is used in cakes & cookies. Also great on chicken or pork chops. Cinnamon is a key ingredient together with meat drippings that heightens the flavor of chicken gravies.

• Chili powder can replace black pepper on chicken or pork chops.

• Curry powder has similar taste to butter if used on chicken & also gives a nice colour to chicken. Fry spices in Teflon pan with oil. Try a combination of curry powder & chili powder if taste buds can handle something a little spicier.

• Limit quantity of spices/ herbs used. A little goes a long way in heightening natural flavor of vegetables. Milder herbs (thyme, oregano, chives, chervil, parsley) are suitable for vegetables.
