Medical Center of Trinity hasreached a milestone event by beingdesignated as an American Institute ofMinimally Invasive Surgery Gynecol-ogical Surgery Center of Excellence. This accomplishment was achievedafter passing a series of rigorous criteriaestablished by the accrediting bodyAIMIS.

The Gynecological Center of Ex-cellence designation is important tothe community, because it gives pa-tients added assurance that MedicalCenter of Trinity has not only passedand exceeded existing norms for mini-mally invasive surgery quality and de-livery, but also has physicians on staffwho have achieved the AIMIS designa-tion as an accredited AIMIS physicianas well.

Approximately 600,000 hysterec-tomies are performed each year in theUnited States, making it the secondmost common procedure performedon women in the U.S. And yet, ac-cording to the Centers of DiseaseControl & Prevention, an estimatedtwo-thirds of these operations entailopen surgeries rather than minimallyinvasive laparoscopic/robotic methods.

The designation from AIMIS is fo-cused on advancing solutions to facili-tate the conversion of a greaterpercentage of procedures from more-traumatic open surgeries to laparo-scopic /robotic approaches that offerpatients shorter hospitalizations andfaster returns to normal activities.

According to Steven McCarus,MD, Chief Executive Officer ofAIMIS, “We continue to assess and in-stitute the use of latest technology, andteaching methods that advance contin-ued use and implementation of mini-mally invasive surgery. Medical Centerof Trinity has now joined only a hand-ful of leading hospitals around the na-tion to enjoy the AIMISaccreditation.” Collecting and report-ing outcomes data is a means to theend of transparency and accountability.

Leigh Massengill, CEO of Med-ical Center of Trinity, stated, “Thisdesignation sets Medical Center ofTrinity apart from every other hospitaland joins some of the most prominenthospitals in the nation for improvingwomen’s health. This helps to con-tribute to the role and responsibilitywe have in the greater Pasco, Pinellas,

Hillsborough area for continued surgi-cal improvement for all patients.

“Medical Center of Trinity has along history of leadership in service towomen’s issues. It is gratifying toknow we are now nationally recog-nized for this commitment,” saidParveen Vahora, MD, Gynecology,Director of the AIMIS GynecologicalCenter of Excellence for MedicalCenter of Trinity.

By Katie Thomas

Healthy skin translates to beauti-ful skin, something we all strive forand if you’re anything like me (andmany others) you know that healthyskin doesn’t always come easy. As ateen, my skin was clear, but along withadulthood came adult acne and I triedproduct after product with no satisfac-tion until recently when I received astarter kit of TréSkinRX products fromglowwithdoreen.com. Whether strug-gling with acne, wrinkles, uneven tex-ture, dry or dull skin, the hassle offinding a product that really works canbe frustrating and mistakes are costly, and believe me, I’d wasted my share ofmoney on products that didn’t work.

I wanted an all-natural productthat really works, that is simple to usewith simple ingredients, and one thatwould give my skin the healthy glow Idesired. Was that too much to ask?Lucky for me, Doreen Selby, CFO ofNeighborhood News & Lifestyles founda skin care line that delivers on itspromises! It all started with a Mother’sDay gift from her family; after a facial

with International Aesthetician An-nette McPhee, who owns Celtic DaySpa in Westchase, Doreen’s skin wastruly glowing. She says, “All the prod-ucts used during my facial were fromTréSkinRX. The facial itself was a re-laxing, transcendent experience but itwas the aftermath of the product thatreally blew me away. I immediately felta full change in my skin - it was soft, hydrated and had a glow to it that Ihadn’t seen in a long time.” Im-pressed, she brought home a two-week sample kit of the TréSkinRXbasic skin care products. “I wasamazed at the difference in my skinafter only a few days into using theproduct,” shares Doreen. “Upon fur-ther use, I realized the 100% organicaloe vera, the base ingredient of allTréSkinRX products, was literally heal-ing my skin. It reduced the inflamma-tion I had been experiencing, resultingin getting rid of my rosacea. Myfriends, family members and cowork-ers began complimenting my skin andasking what product I was using. Thatis when I decided to look deeper intothe reason TréSkinRX was working

better than any other product I hadever used before, because it was appar-ent to me and others that my skin wasundergoing a change for the better!”

Doreen did some research onlineand found that TréSkinRX productsare made with 100% organic pharma-ceutical grade aloe vera, which isproven to be anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, wound healing, therapeutic

and an anesthetic. The molecularstructure of aloe is able to penetratethrough our skin, to hydrate it andbring pH levels back to normal.

TréSkinRX products were createdby Ahmed Abdullah, MD, who is aboard certified plastic and cosmeticsurgeon and a recognized expert onthe restorative and medicinal effects ofaloe vera. Dr. Abdullah is a member of

the International Aloe Science Council(IASC) based in Dallas, Texas, and hasserved on its board of directors. He isa pioneer of the practice of using phar-maceutical-grade aloe in plastic sur-gery for the treatment of skin damage.

“After researching and investigat-ing the TréSkinRX product line formyself and becoming fully aware ofthe science behind 100% organic aloevera, I knew I had to become a part ofthe TréSkinRX team to better sharethe amazing, transformative skin careline with people that I know,” saysDoreen. “Even though I have a fulltime career with Neighborhood News &Lifestyles, I find that Glow WithDoreen is a fun and rewarding busi-ness venture that has been very satisfy-ing. I like it that I am not required tocarry inventory or meet sales quotas. Ihave always enjoyed helping peopleand becoming a TréSkinRX LaunchManager has given me the ability tonot only help people with their skin, but with their confidence as well. Itjust feels good!”

My Personal Experience WithTréSkinRX

For some reason, I had beautifulclear skin as a teenager, but as soon as

I turned 22, I started having problemswith adult acne from small red markson my cheeks to cystic under-the-skinpimples that really hurt. I have tried somany different skin care products fromall natural products, to over-the-counter acne washes and toners, todermatologist-prescribed topical treat-ments. I’ve known Doreen for overtwelve years and she has personallyseen me struggle with adult acne. Shethought TréSkinRX might help andgave me a trial kit just to try.

I could not believe the results. The inflammation in my cheeks wentaway after one week. After twoweeks, I was amazed at the differencein my skin. I even felt confidentenough to not wear concealer orfoundation!

I love the simplicity ofTréSkinRX. I still use the same prod-ucts that come in the two-week,four-product trial kit: PurifyingCleanser, EX3 Daily Renewing Exfo-liant, Triple Defense Day Moisturizerwith SPF 15, and Night RepairMoisturizer. Plus, I added the ClearSkin Blemish Control cream.

My favorite product is the EX3Daily Renewing Exfoliant, which iscomposed of certified organic phar-

maceutical grade aloe vera, glycolicacid with an effective pH level of2.1–2.3 and high potency vitamin C.To understand how EX3 works, youhave to first understand the ph scalein relation to skin and how it workswith glycolic acid - the lower the pH,the more acidic a product, ultimatelyresulting in being more effective atremoving keratin or dead skin cells.EX3 has the lowest effective pHavailable without a doctor’s officepeel. Dr. Abdullah realized that givenaloe’s superior anti-inflammatoryproperties, it seemed logical thatgenerous amounts of aloe pairedwith acid would ensure enough hy-drogen ions (acid) to dissolve deadskin layers while preventing a burn.Basically, EX3’s pH level of 2.1 – 2.3is nearly the same as that of an in-of-fice chemical peel (pH 2.0), but youcan do it yourself at home. EX3 uti-lizes pure pharmaceutical aloe andglycolic acid in conjunction with Vi-tamin C, A and E, which serve as an-tioxidants.

The TréSkinRX product line in-cludes options for people with sensi-tive skin, normal skin, dry skin, andthere even is a line available for peo-ple suffering from acne.

My skin has never felt so goodand my confidence in my skin’shealth and appearance has never beenhigher. TréSkinRX is soon releasing amineral makeup line that will containno oils, talc, bismuth, oxychloride, fragrances, synthetic materials orchemicals – I’m excited about that!

For information aboutTréSkinRX or to order a two-week, four-product trial kit for$14.99, please contact DoreenSelby at (727) 946-1596 or placeyour order online atwww.glowwithdoreen.com.

Penguin Pretzel Factory has re-cently opened a new location onTampa Road! Baked fresh to order, thewarm doughy pretzels will have youhooked in just one bite!

From yummy twisted pretzels tomouth watering stuffed pretzel sand-wiches and desserts, Penguin PretzelFactory is so more than just your aver-age “pretzel shop.” They offer a varietyof delicious options, so whether youjust popped in for a quick bite on yourlunch break or have come for a nicefamily meal, Penguin Pretzel Factoryhas something for everyone to enjoy!

“We are pretzelologists,” saysowner Suzy, who runs the restaurantalongside her husband Nick. “To methat means really believing in what wehave to offer. We absolutely love ourdough and our goal is to take ourrecipes and create something beautifuland delicious!”

Starting with a dream, Suzyprayed hard one night and the ideajust popped into her head. Soon after, she and her husband Nick took thatidea and made it a reality.

“Our life was hectic and Nick andI were thinking about ways that wecould start a business and spend moretime together as a family,” says Suzy. Ijust remember waking up one morningwanting a change. I woke up with anidea – pretzels! For the next six monthsI started baking nonstop, coming upwith different recipes and ideas until fi-nally I found the perfect doughrecipe.” And that it is; Penguin Pret-zel’s dough really is incredible!

Although new to this location, having opened in September, PenguinPretzel Factory is not new to the busi-ness. They actually started by sellingtheir pretzels at both MOSI and BuschGardens. The pretzels were a huge hitand sparked the idea to open up astorefront two years ago in nearby

Trinity. Because of increased customerdemand, Suzy and Nick decided toopen the second location Oldsmar. Justlike the original, this location hasquickly gained a huge following.

“We have customers that comefrom all over Tampa Bay, includingthose who drive from as far away asOcala, Sarasota, Gainesville and Bran-don,” says Suzy. “We are doing some-thing that no one else is doing. Weoffer a completely different food expe-rience, unlike anything you have en-countered before.”

A cross between a NY street pret-zel and the famous “mall pretzel”Suzy’s secret dough recipe is the driv-ing force behind the success of theirbusiness! Used in all of the items ontheir menu, from the stuffed sand-wiches and desserts to the twisted pret-zels, their dough has just the rightamount of sweet and savory that trulymakes their food one-of-a-kind!

Every Wednesday they also offergluten-free pretzels. Suzy asks that ifyou are planning on ordering this op-tion to please give her advanced notice(if possible, call the day before) so sheknows how much gluten-free doughto prepare.

Accompanying the stuffed pret-zels, Penguin Pretzel Factory has a vari-ety of gourmet homemade dipping

sauces, including cucumber dill, nachocheese, marinara, bleu cheese, honeymustard, ranch, and Buffalo.

On my last visit Suzy and Nickbrought out a bunch of differentstuffed pretzels for me to sample, in-cluding my personal favorite, their Buf-falo Chicken and Cheese – also knownas The Endangered (everything isnamed after penguin-related terms). With crispy buffalo chicken dipped intheir homemade buffalo sauce, andwhite American cheese stuffed inside apretzel – wow was it good!

Another customer favorite, and amust-try menu item, is their Cuban-stuffed pretzel, featuring slow roasted

pork and ham (which they roast in-house) marinated in their homemademojo sauce, as well as authentic Cubanspices, Swiss cheese, pickles and mus-tard. You can taste the freshness, andthe spices used really enhance the flavorof this pretzel, making it one of thebest, and certainly the most unique,Cubans I have ever had.

After trying their food I can easilysee why they have been voted amongthe top restaurants in Tampa Bay onTrip Advisor for the past few years, andrecently received a 2015 Certificate ofExcellence.

In addition to their pretzel twists, which you can get salted, unsalted,cinnamon-sugar or everything, othergreat options include BBQ pulledpork, Steak Bacon & Cheese, Pepper-oni & Mozzarella, Meatball Marinara, and more. They also have pretzeldogs – hot dogs wrapped in dough –as well as pretzel pizzas, where youhave the option of choosing your crust– cheese stuffed, salted, buttered orparmesan – and your toppings – extracheese, pepperoni, ham, bacon, salamiand buffalo chicken.

They have a selection of vegetar-ian options as well, including theirSpinach and Feta – a Greek-inspiredfavorite combining chopped spinach, feta cheese and scallions served withtheir homemade cucumber dill dip –and their Roasted Veggie, made with

roasted eggplant, zucchini, yellowsquash, onions and tomatoes seasonedwith olive oil and garlic.

Suzy and Nick are constantly com-ing up with new ideas and differentspecialty pretzels. Starting October 15and running through Christmas theirnewest special is Thanksgiving Dinnerin a Pretzel. Featuring sliced turkey, stuffing, and gravy served alongside acranberry dipping sauce, I can onlyimagine how fantastic this pretzel isgoing to taste! I will definitely be backto try it!

Have a sweet tooth? Penguin Pret-zel Factory offers a tantalizing selectionof stuffed pretzel desserts, includingdark chocolate, white chocolate, peanut butter, milk chocolate, Oreo, apple pie, Nutella and blueberry. Ohand did I mention they have a Snick-ers one as well? Made with an entireSnickers bar baked inside a pretzel, yes, this dessert is as amazing as it sounds!

Team Building & Pretzel BakingA really unique idea for small

groups – reserve Penguin Pretzel Fac-tory outside normal business hoursand come in and learn how to makestuffed pretzels. “We have done thiswith elementary school children aswell as different nursing homes, and ithas been a lot of fun,” says Suzy. “Weteach them how we make our pretzels

and they get to create their very ownpretzel to take home.”

party platters from Penguin PretzelFactory. Whether it be a Christmasparty, birthday celebration or officegathering, Penguin Pretzel Factory’smini stuffed pretzels are sure to be a hitamongst guests and are the perfect bitesize that can easily be enjoyed whilemingling with guests.
