HAFA ADAI AND THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO SERVE YOU! Great National Insurance was established in September 20, 1973 selling and servicing insurance products. For over 35 years, you have entrusted our agency to insure your home, lives and businesses. Since our modest beginnings, our two-person office has grown to over 37 associates; from a few thousand-dollar premium income to over a multi- million premium income business; and from a few number of policyholders to over several thousand customers in Guam.

We have been committed to being a good corporate partner supporting various local charities and non-profit organizations. This commitment is a reflection of all the hard working employees of Great National Insurance.

The inaugural launch of the Great Times Newsletter commemorates our 35 years of doing business in Guam. It reflects where we have been and where we are heading. Our vision for the future is to be Guam’s preferred in-surer of choice and to remain the best in the industry.

We are proud to be part of your day-to-day lives and we look forward to celebrating our 35th Anniversary with you.

Sincerely,

Domie B. Bumagat, Jr., President & CEO

What makes leadership is the ability to get people to do what they don’t want to do

and like it. —Harry Truman

The ability to summon positive emotions during periods of intense stress lies at the heart of effective leadership. — Jim Loehr

Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their

ingenuity. — General George S. Patton

We should seize every opportunity to give encouragement. Encouragement is oxygen to

the soul.

Earn your success based on service to others, not at the expense of others.

Leadership is not a one-day thing. It is a constant commitment to excellence, a

habit… a daily practice.

If you want to get the best out of someone—you must look for the best that is in them

DRIVING GREEN Driving a car is a privilege, a new freedom, contrivance when we commute to work, visit family & friends, and going to the movies or shopping. Sadly, it is the vast cause for global warm-ing & our climate changes. When you drive on the road your car uses fossil fuel that burns carbon dioxide and has a rippling affect on the weather such as drought, floods, tropical storms and high rise in sea level. But, you can make a social difference and save our planet, our animals, and our future by “Driving Green”. Take these useful tips and not only would you be re-sponsibly green, but you can save money on gas:

Your home is your castle, your safe haven and a break-in could crush you and your family’s feeling of security. There’s no bulletproof way from secur-ing your home, by taking preventive measures you can reduce the risks from being burglarized;

◊ Secure your exterior doors with a solid core or metal clad door frames. Try to get a good quality deadbolt door lock with security strike plates. Recommended door locks with a single-cylinder dead bolt lock and reinforce with strike plate (with three-inch screws). Also try to get entrance doors that have wide angle peepholes or view-grills so you can see who is there before opening the door.

◊ A security bar should be placed in the slide channel of your glass

sliding door & windows or try to secure it with locks.

◊ Eliminate dark places by installing exterior lights or by adding motion detector lights.

◊ Cut or trim huge bushes or shrubs that may be covering the windows and door way, because it makes it easy for burglars to hide.

◊ Take an inventory of your personal property. Even better to mark it and take a picture showing serial number.

◊ Keep valuables such as jewelry, inventory of personal property, important documents and records in a fire-retardant home safe or bank’s safety deposit box.

◊ If you think of installing security

alarm system bought from hardware store or professionally installed it would be great to test them periodically.

◊ Do not leave a spare key under the rug or in a plastic rock.

◊ Advisable to know your community or join a neighborhood watch program. If you notice a suspicious car or activity that doesn’t jive then take note of license plate and date. Who knows that information might be beneficial for police officials?

◊ If you know that you may be away from home and you don’t have a family member or neighbor you can trust to periodically check your house, you may want to think of using automatic timers on lights and radio to turn it on and off. Also lower your telephone’s ring volume in your house.

Taking these preventive measures can give you a clear mind, and reviewing your Homeowners policy could pro-vide extra security.

BELIEVE! An atheist is thrown overboard into shark-infested waters. He struggles to swim back to his boat but a very hungry shark already hur-tling toward him. He's scared to death, and as he turns to see the jaws of the Great White open, revealing its teeth in horrific scene, the atheist screams: "Oh God! Save me!" In an instant, time is frozen and a bright light shines down from above. The voice of God booms as the man lays motionless in the water. "Why do you call upon me when you do not believe in me?" Confused and panicked, the atheist replies: "Well, that's true I don't believe in you, but how about the shark? Can you make

the shark believe in you?" "As you wish,” the Lord re-plies. The beam of light disap-pears and the man finds him-self about to be attacked by the shark again. As the athe-ist stares in horror at the im-minent death, the shark sud-denly stops and pulls back. The Great White closes its eyes, bows its head and says: Thank you Lord for this food which I am about to receive….”

Mother To All A woman with 10 children, all of them boys, gets a visit from the press one day, curious as to how she manages. The journalists ask for the boys name. "Caloy", she says. "Rights", says one writer. "And that fat one is... "Caloy", the woman answers. "Okay, and the dark one is... "Caloy", the woman repeats, "as well as that chinito boy and the blond one. They're Caloy, too." "Are all your boys called Caloy?" the reporters ask. "Isn't that terribly complicated?" "Not at all, " she replies. "It makes everything very easy, actually. When I shout "Caloy, meal is ready!" they all come. When I say "Caloy, it's time for bed" they all go to bed." "What if you want only one of them?" the reporters counter. "No problem," she re-plies. "I call them by their last names."

Great National Insurance launched its first 5K run last year, 2007. It was held at the Micronesia Mall parking lot last Oc-tober 6, 2007. The company together with several benefac-tors sponsored the event to benefit ACT - Autism Commu-nity Together. This year 2008, Great National will hold its sec-ond 5K Run on October 11, 2008. The 5K event will benefit selected Public Schools.

In line with the company’s mission to help the com-munity of Guam, GNIU launched back in 2004 the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) committee. The group is tasked to raise funds to help non-profit organizations on the island. For the past 4 years, two of the beneficiaries of the committee has always been the American Cancer Society - Relay for Life and the Astumbo Elementary School. Likewise, the CSR committee is a training ground for good leadership. The members are given the oppor-tunity to lead and develop their leadership skills.
