I am proud to be heading a Department that stands on such fertile soil as the Delhi School of Economics which has produced

such great intellectuals and leaders. The main objective of the two professional courses Master of International Business

(MIB) and Master of Human Resource and Organizational Development (MHROD), is to produce good citizens and good

managers. Students should take inspiration from the environs and faculty, to carry with them in life the learnings and values

that they have imbibed during their stay.

As a message to the prospective recruiters I would like to say that the Department of Commerce is one of the oldest and most

established Departments in the country. The rich tradition of this institution and the dynamic developments in the curriculum of

the courses of our Department hold an ideal combination for producing managers who can face the challenges of the real

world of business. It may be pertinent to mention that our students do not just receive the best of knowledge but also are

brought up with a value-based orientation of their education.

I convey my best wishes to the current batches of emerging managers of MIB & MHROD programmes. May they have a life

full of challenges and yet have the most professionally satisfying careers.

Dr. Kavita SharmaCourse Coordinator - MIBDepartment of Commerce

Delhi School of Economics

Business is undergoing a constant change and opens up new challenges and opportunities for organizations. To stay in

business and grow, there is need to constantly evolve, innovate, and change systems for scanning the environment

effectively, come up with action plans and have people to make it work. The people need to be equipped with new knowledge,

new skills, attitudes, mind sets and values.

We at the Department of Commerce are passionate about developing people to meet those challenges and offer this two year

full time professional programme - Master of International Business (MIB). The course was first started in the year 1995 and

has grown as one of the most prestigious courses in the field of international business. The students undergo a strict

admission process taking up the Common Aptitude test followed by Group Discussion and personal interviews.

We always intend to offer best of knowledge and skills to our students and to provide them an environment for decision making

and self growth. We try to ensure that constant interface with the industry is there and invite some of our faculty from the

corporate world. Students themselves organize various activities including symposia, guest lectures, debates and quizzes,

and the 'Annual Convention' to have further exposure to the complexities of the corporate world.

Our aim is to empower people to be the challengers of the globalized world and our past placement records are a testimony in

this direction.

I am presenting before you the MIB batches of 2012 and 2013 for final and summer placements, and hope that you will be able

to discover their potentials to the best of your satisfaction.

MIB Course Coordinator'sMessage

Page 8: e Brochure

It is always a matter of great privilege and pleasure to write about MHROD as a coordinator knowing fully well about the

national level filtering process of a Common Aptitude Test followed by the process of a Group Discussion and a Personal

Interview through which these few chosen ones have succeeded to enter the two professional programmes being run by the

Department since 1995 (MIB & MHROD ).

It is also heartening to mention that the richness of experience of the alumni of MHROD is not only flowering in India but also in

different parts of the world at very senior level positions including USA, UK, Australia, et al. Their continued support to the two

professional programmes of the department is worth mentioning as it is great source of strength to the current batches due to

the custom of mentoring of junior batches by the senior batches.

Holistic development of students is the essence of philosophy being followed for these students and they are virtually

managing every activity like the 'Annual Convention', symposia, workshops, guest lectures, etc. The course curriculum is very

intense and the case study method along with real life projects based on empirical data make realize that behaviour can be

very well quantified and HR is no longer an abstract field. The knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics are

developed in the process and in two years time they get transformed to face the challenges of the globalized world.

They have been groomed to possess good IQ, EQ, and SQ which is a rare combination to find in today's corporate world. After

having taught these rare virtues, I think they are very well prepared to face the challenging assignments by the corporate

world. I wish them all success along with fulfillment in their material and spiritual life.

The success and sustenance of every organization traces back to its most core and prized asset: People! In today's world, every major corporation which wants to stay competitive and survive in a dynamic and unforgiving global economic environment realises the importance of elevating HR to a position of primacy and power.

In the liberalised framework of the Indian economy, corporate experts in human resource development are among the key personnel needed for corporate strategic planning and control.

The Master of Human Resource and Organizational Development (MHROD) programme was started in the year 1995 by the Department of Commerce; Delhi School of Economics with the objective of providing quality education to highly motivated young men and women so that they can provide professional expertise to business and industry in the twin areas of Human Resource and Organizational Development. Identified by NHRD and NTPC as premiere course in the field of Human Resource, MHROD is a two-year full time professional programme spread over Four Semesters which combine grueling academic schedules with proactive efforts to develop new perspectives and a higher level of knowledge and understanding. Going beyond books, theories and case studies to open new windows, MHROD helps young HR and OD experts to enter the increasingly competitive and constantly changing global economy equipped with the ability to face every challenge head on and emerge victorious.

The Master of International Business (MIB) programme, run by the Department of Commerce located at the Delhi School of Economics, plays a pivotal role in equipping its students with the requisite skills to sculpt the face of tomorrow's business.

In 1985, the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, and the International Trade Centre (ITC/UNCTAD/GATT), Geneva identified the Department of Commerce as a centre fit for conducting a specialised programme in International Business and Trade, laying the foundation for MIB. Since then, the programme has been growing from strength to strength. The curriculum has been designed keeping in mind the necessities and requirements of tomorrows business world. It is regularly updated based on feedback from corporate leaders and is contemporary in both its outlook and pedagogy. It is designed to enable students to bring success and add value to themselves as well as organizations that they become stakeholders in.

Corporate Interaction

Live Projects

At MIB & MHROD, we value building relationships. We know that the purpose of a management institute is not just to develop graduates who are thorough with text-book wisdom, but to develop professionals who are aware of industry trends and practices and are prepared for rigorous corporate work environment. We know this is possible only by building and nurturing a long-term relationship between the corporates and our institute which can mutually profit both.

The distinct relationship building activities serve their purposes in their own right. They are conducted throughout the year, some conducted weekly on a regular basis and some other which are undertaken during an educational semester. The various activities that fall under the ambit of corporate relationship building process are the following:.

The basic premise of learning management principles is to be able to apply them in real life situations. A live project provides our students with a platform where they can apply the principles learnt in the classrooms and provides an opportunity for on-the-job training. These projects even help to understand the pragmatic nuances of the business and help the students analyse their interest zones. These live projects happen in tandem with the classes, so the students get a first hand experience of the rigorous work culture in the corporate world and thus get moulded to do multi-tasking.

The Industry Interaction and Student Activities Cell (IISAC) and SDC (Student Development Cell) fuels the exchange of ideas among students, academics, government and the industry.

It is responsible for taking care of the corporate interaction at the campus and regularly organizes guest lecture sessions and events such as the IB-HR Annual Symposium, inviting eminent personalities to share their views and ideas with the budding managers. The IISAC-SDC organizes Industrial visits, Educational tours and Port visits. The cell also takes care of various student activities such as movie screenings, student orientation, ice-breaking sessions for the junior and senior batches.

One of the major initiatives taken by the cells is organizing regular workshops which helps students realize their strengths and weaknesses and hone up their skills at managing real time challenges.

The sessions and activities, apart from being a great source of learning for the students also give an insight to the work culture followed inside different organizations and helps them groom themselves to actively become a part of the same standards.

The Literary and Debating Society augments the education of students by providing various platforms through

which they can acquire essential managerial competencies. The Society conducts regular exercises in

debating, group discussions and other formats of public oration to chisel the communication skills.

It also organizes Business Plan, Paper Presentation and Case Study competitions for the students to hone their

entrepreneurial, research and analytical abilities.
