TRIAL HOLE EXCAVATION & REPORTING

p r e s e n t a t i o n p o r t f o l i o Trial hole excavationand reporting

Safe excavation to the HSE HSG47 guidelines of trial holes and pits for several construction companies have successfully revealed a variety of power and communication cables, structures, sewerage systems, bridge decks, also often identifying items which have not been indicated on statutory plans and drawings. We have conducted operations around the country on major highways and city centres and will produce a detailed report with clear photographs, depth measurements, cable identification and comprehensive information from these trial hole excavations. We can undertake trial hole excavation at very short notice and will always respond to urgent enquiries promptly.

Utilising trial holes and having reports prepared can save immense amounts of time further into any project and reduces chances of cable strikes or damage to underground assets. The removal of any health and safety breaches or compensation claims from prior identification of underground services is very important.

CAMWAY are Highway Electrical Registration Scheme (HERS) certified and employ qualified CSCS/ECS approved operatives.

TRENCHING AND STRUCTURED CABLING

p r e s e n t a t i o n p o r t f o l i o

We are proficient at mechanically excavated trenching, duct installation and cable pulling. We are familiar with all popular underground ducted systems.

Ducted systems enable the more efficient installation of power and communication cables. They protect the installed cables and reduce the possibility of cable strikes by mechanical or manual excavation. They also allow the easier installation of additional cables and the movement of cable when interruption of cabling is required.

We install large amounts of duct along motorway verges to allow the installation of communications and power cables. We are also competent at installing smaller but more complex ducted systems in urban locations whilst minimising any interruptions to traffic and pedestrian flow.

We can install structured duct at any time, night & day and at any location.

DUCT PROVING

Where comprehensive duct proving is required, we attend site and determine cable locations, chambers, road crossings and other assets and photograph and measure all items. From this data we produce reports similar to below for inclusion into your data set.

Installing interruption cabling and temporary duct for power and communication purposes on bridgeworks for major infrastructure improvements and refurbishment can be completed successfully by CAMWAY. In-house partnering with CAMWAY Traffic Management enables us to offer a trouble free service when conducting this type of specialist operation as we can book road space, install traffic management and interrupt cables under a single management process.

As interrupted cabling can unfortunately offer a temptation for theft, we can also offer a “cable minding” service where 24 hour monitoring is provided by traffic management operatives, or by remote or onsite CCTV operation to offer a deterrent to this increasing problem.

All interrupted cabling duct is re-roped with new draw-cord to enable the quick reinstallation into existing duct at the completion of works.

Where longer cable runs require interruption and reinstallation, we are experienced in operating a wide range of powered cable winches and cable protection measures such as cable rollers and cable funnels.

MECHANICAL POWERED EXCAVATION

p r e s e n t a t i o n p o r t f o l i o

Mechanical excavation on the highways and motorways requires the investment in excavation skills training. CAMWAY have invested in our employees so that they are fully qualified in operating powerful excavation machinery.

Due to the nature of power and communication cabling along the highways, it is essential that all excavation is undertaken with the upmost care and consideration.

Operatives are also trained to use cable detection equipment, instructed what to observe when excavating, utilise banksmen to look for hazards and to work in a safe manner with correct PPE at all times.

All mechanical excavation work is only commenced when all statutory plans have been examined and a planned method statement and risk assessment is conducted and agreed with all operatives.

All excavation work is correctly cordoned off with hi-visibility fencing if it is to be left overnight.

SAFE HAND DIGGING AND EXCAVATION

p r e s e n t a t i o n p o r t f o l i o

Where underground services have been identified and it is not practical or safe to use mechanical excavation, then safe hand digging is preferred.

All CAMWAY civil engineering operatives have been trained in the safe methods of hand digging to avoid services, identify problems and to report to their supervisors.

All operatives will use correct PPE when hand digging and will conduct digging with appropriate insulated tools.

Operatives are registered under the Highway Electrical Registration Scheme which ensures that they are aware of risks on highway electrical contracts and will assist in the promotion of best practice.

We have conducted subcontract work for many large blue chip construction companies and due to our promotion of health and safety within our workforce have gained an enviable reputation.
