THE RECORD BREAKERSome of the key Ohio State and Big Ten Conference records that Dwayne Haskins has broken in 2018, his first season as a starting quarterback for the Buckeyes.

THIS IS DWAYNE HASKINSA Potomac, Md. native, Dwayne Haskins is a third-year sophomore at Ohio State and a first-year starting quarterback. He was a member of the 2016 recruiting class after finishing his high school career at The Bullis School.

Haskins redshirted during the 2016 season on a Buckeye team that won a share of the Big Ten East title and made the College Football Playoff. In 2017, he was the back-up to fifth-year senior J.T. Barrett but flashed his immense talent when he led Ohio State to a come-from-behind victory at Michigan. Haskins came in for an injured Barrett with the Buckeyes trailing 20-14 in the third quarter and finished the game six-of-seven passing for 96 yards and also had a key 22-yard run to set up a one-yard go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter.

Haskins won Ohio State’s starting quarterback job last spring, and made the first start of his career on Sept. 1 against Oregon State. As a sign of things to come, Haskins set an Ohio State record for a first-time starting QB by throwing for 313 yards and five touchdowns in the opener. In leading the Scarlet and Gray to its second consecutive Big Ten title, Haskins has thrown for an Ohio State and Big Ten record 4,580 yards and 47 touchdowns, both of which rank first nationally.

During a season in which Haskins has five 400-yard games and nine 300-yard performances, Haskins has saved his best for last. Two weeks ago against the Buckeyes’ biggest rival and the nation’s No. 1 overall defense, Haskins completed 20 of 31 passes for 396 yards and five touchdowns in a 62-39 victory over No. 4 Michigan. A week later, he set Ohio State’s single-game passing record and was named the Big Ten Championship Game Most Valuable Player for his 499-yard, five-TD effort against Northwestern.

Along with Haskins’ eye-popping numbers has come several individual awards. A six-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, he was named the Silver Football Award winner by the Chicago Tribune as well as the Big Ten Conference’s Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year and the league’s Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year.

Haskins also set Big Ten single-season records for passing yards and touchdowns.

I think Dwayne’s play this season left no doubt that he should be in New York City as a Heisman Trophy finalist. He had one of the great seasons in college football history, and I am incredibly proud of the way he has performed both on and off the field.

– Urban Meyer , head coach, Ohio State

If I had a Heisman Trophy ballot, I would have voted for him. I think he’s a phenomenal football player. He distributes it to a lot of guys. He uses all of his weapons. What jumps out is his poise, his accuracy, his understanding of the offense. And he just does a phenomenal job of taking what the defense gives him.

– Pat Fitzgerald , head coach, Northwestern

Dwayne has carried his team at times. He put that team on his shoulders when he had to and was absolutely spectacular against the nation’s No. 1-ranked defense. He deserves to be in New York.

– Joel Katt , analyst, FOX Sports
