26 November 2012 Dear Choirmaster, Musical Director or Head of Music On behalf of Friends of Sussex Hospices I would like to invite you to join us in our Hospice Hymnathon on 3rd/4th May next year, when we will be singing our way non-stop through the entire New English Hymnal in the wonderful venue of Chichester Cathedral. FSH is a charity run entirely by volunteers that raises funds to support hospice care for Sussex. We are inviting choirs from across Sussex of every size and ability and of all faiths or none to participate in our 31-hour fund-raising event. Participants do not need to be of performance standard, they just need a desire to share in the joy of singing in such an awe- inspiring building for such a good cause. Will you come and join us in singing for Sussex hospices and, by obtaining sponsorship for individual choir members, for your choir as a whole or for particular hymns (perhaps in memory of friends and family), help us support the ten hospices and two care-at-home providers that serve Sussex? (We’ll supply the sponsorship forms.) The event will start at 12 noon on Friday 3rd May 2013 and, after continuing through the night, will end with a grand finale at 7.15pm on Saturday. Choirs will sing in the nave in any combination of half-hour or one- hour slots and are invited to choose their preferred time slot on the application form enclosed. We anticipate that there will often be more than one choir singing at a time. To minimise disruption to scheduled services in the Cathedral during our extended event the singing will be moved from the nave to elsewhere in the Cathedral’s environs for a few short periods. Details are still to be finalised but one of the alternative venues might place a restriction in number to 30 people. One of the possible alternative locations being discussed is a

Dear Choirmaster, Musical Director or Head of Music

On behalf of Friends of Sussex Hospices I would like to invite you to join us in our Hospice Hymnathon on 3rd/4th May next year, when we will be singing our way non-stop through the entire New English Hymnal in the wonderful venue of Chichester Cathedral.

FSH is a charity run entirely by volunteers that raises funds to support hospice care for Sussex. We are inviting choirs from across Sussex of every size and ability and of all faiths or none to participate in our 31-hour fund-raising event. Participants do not need to be of performance standard, they just need a desire to share in the joy of singing in such an awe-inspiring building for such a good cause.

Will you come and join us in singing for Sussex hospices and, by obtaining sponsorship for individual choir members, for your choir as a whole or for particular hymns (perhaps in memory of friends and family), help us support the ten hospices and two care-at-home providers that serve Sussex? (We’ll supply the sponsorship forms.)

The event will start at 12 noon on Friday 3rd May 2013 and, after continuing through the night, will end with a grand finale at 7.15pm on Saturday. Choirs will sing in the nave in any combination of half-hour or one-hour slots and are invited to choose their preferred time slot on the application form enclosed.

One of the possible alternative locations being discussed is a beautiful small chapel not normally open to the public.

Calling all night owls and larks: Just imagine the unique atmosphere in the 12th century Cathedral late at night or in the early hours of the morning, times when few have been privileged to be there. Why not choose to join us singing in the small hours?

In addition to the choirs there will be celebrities attending the event, either joining in the singing or simply lending their support. We’re keeping their names a secret for now.

Cont’d….

We are enormously grateful to the Dean and Chapter of Chichester Cathedral for all their encouragement and for letting the Hymnathon take place at the Cathedral. We look forward to welcoming you and your choir to the Cathedral together with any of your friends and family who would like to come and support you. All are welcome.

The accompanying form explains the process for applying but if you have questions or need help, please contact Dianne Steele - Tel: 01435 813630 Mobile: 07860 435532 Email: [email protected]

Please help us to spread the word to other choirs or groups you think might be interested.

Yours faithfully
