DORKING FCOFFICIAL PROGRAMME 2015/16
£1.00
Welcome to Dorking FC and The New Defence, our home ground for the
2015/16 season.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Sale and his team at Horley Town FC for their hospitality and I hope that you enjoy your visit with us today.
This is our second and what should have been our final season here at The New Defence ahead of our exciting move back to our iconic new home at Meadowbank. Unfortunately our return has been put back for a further season due to Council delays in the tendering
and construction process and we now have to wait until the 2017/2018 season.
In the meantime, we have to put any disappointment behind us and ensure our Club continues to make good progress on and off the pitch. Our vision remains focused on
continuing to rebuild Dorking FC as a respected football club but also as a social enterprise by re-establishing It as an iconic club at the heart of its rural community.
We have already seen strong growth on the pitch this season across all our teams - including the Ladies, Under 18s and the First Team, who are progressing well and in with a
chance of a top six finish.
A big thank you goes to our football management team, my fellow Board members, all of our volunteer helpers and of course you, our loyal supporters.
We hope you will follow us on our journey - grassroots football is important to us all, and Dorking FC hopes to make its own contribution to the benefit of everyone.
To keep up to date with developments and news at DFC join us on Twitter @dorkingfc and on facebook.com/dorkingfc.
Kind Regards, Grant Ashley, Chairman

PLAYERS’ SPONSORSSponsoring a player is a great, low cost way for small businesses and individuals to show their
support for Dorking’s historic, local football club as we look to redevelop and build on our 135 year history. Dorking FC is run entirely by volunteers and all the players adopt traditional,
amateur sportsman values. Sponsoring an item of a player’s kit will help ensure we can continue to run the club solely in the interests of the town and the local community.
If you would like to become a Player Sponsor for this season, please email [email protected] for more information.

Dorking ran out clear winners against Sandhurst Town, showing great character to bounce back from a disappointing performance the previous week and keeping alive their hopes of a top six finish.
Both teams were slow to start with neither able to get the ball down and play, as the ball ping ponged around in the midfield, with the only serious goal threat in the first 15 minutes coming from the visitors, who forced Andrew Osei into making a routine save at his near post.
With the game squeezed into the middle third of the pitch, the breakthrough came on 25 minutes, when Dorking skipper Martin Smith caught the Sandhurst back four square and broke through and, one-on-one, finished calmly low under the advancing keeper.
The Chicks then started to create chances for as they settled into the game. They thought they would double their lead when local teenager Ryan Lunn unselfishly played the ball across the face of goal for Leroy Hyett, who was unmarked six yards from goal – but deemed to be offside.
The Ashcombe 6th former Lunn continues to grow in confidence as he gains experience and - moments later - he played a delightful ball from deep for Smith to run onto, but the skipper was denied his second goal of the game by a last ditch tackle.
The result was put beyond doubt within the first eleven minutes of the second half as Glen Wright recaptured his goal scoring form and secured a brace of goals.
The first came after some great hold up play from Theo Campbell in the penalty area that allowed the advancing Wright to take a touch before

sweeping the ball into the far corner of the net.
His second came just minutes later and was all his own work as he jumped the highest in the box to head the ball and force a good save from the Sandhurst keeper – but he could only push the ball back to Wright who showed some neat footwork and good balance to step round the goalie and give the Chicks a 3-0 lead.
Wright turned provider for the home side’s fourth when his cross on 56 minutes found Hyett, who made no mistake from close range.
Even at 4-0 down, Sandhurst refused to give up and, after making a couple of tactical substitutions to change their shape, they were rewarded on 70 minutes, when Churchill-Cooper was allowed to head home at the back post, just three yards out.
Substitutions were to play a part in Dorking’s fifth goal when the pacey Dan Bransbury replaced Hyett. The Sandhurst defence couldn’t cope with Bransbury’s speed and ,having been caught offside once, Bransbury now timed his run well to break through and beat the keeper with ease.
A well-deserved win puts the Chicks back in with a chance of a top six finish. Vital to achieving that is the ever present Luke Harmsworth’s superb marshalling of the back four – and with Ryan Lunn and fellow Under 18 Joe Teague getting first team experience, the Chicks’ policy of developing local young players is also paying dividends.

By now, you will probably have read or heard the the news in the local paper or on radio. Mole Valley District Council informed us just before Christmas that they had not yet selected a contractor and they would be delaying the rebuilding of our Meadowbank home. As a result, they can no longer meet the long-standing commitment to bring Dorking FC home for the 2016-17 season and we must spend a third year ground sharing.
This unexpected third season without a home ground puts a huge burden on our club. With no significant means of generating revenue, we now need to raise £30,000 to see us through the year. If we fail, the consequences are simple - Dorking FC will have to fold this summer, bringing an end to 136 years of football history and heritage in the town.
The fundraising is underway.
We have a great vision for the future of the club as a community and social enterprise at Meadowbank. There are three ways to contribute to the fundraising to make it happen:
No. 12 Club MembershipYou can become an official member of Dorking FC. Membership is not just a great way of making a contribution, but you also receive a range of benefits in return - including a free season ticket for the rest of this season and the whole of 2016/17, representing a saving of up to 75% off gate prices. Adult, Junior and Family memberships are available online at www.dorkingfcshop.com. While you’re there, you can also pick up a Dorking FC car sticker to show your support.
Loans with Tax ReliefIndividuals can make Community Investment Loans for a minimum of £1,000. Because of Dorking FC’s Community Interest Club status, loans will benefit from Social Investment Tax Relief - which is designed to encourage investors to support social enterprises, like Dorking FC.
Individuals making an eligible investment can deduct 30% of the cost of their investment from their income tax liability for the tax year in which the investment is made, or for the previous year. The investment must be held for a minimum period of three years.
Investors will also receive three years of Dorking FC No.12 Club membership, including a free season ticket.
If you’re interested in a Community Investment Loan to help save Dorking FC, please email our Chairman, Grant Ashley, via [email protected]. Grant will get back in touch with full information.
SponsorshipLocal businesses of all sizes - and individuals - can sponsor the club and help save Dorking FC via our new Community Interest Development Fund. This is a low entry cost, soft cash flow impact plan, providing a range of Business to Community and Business to Business benefits.
If you would like more information about how you can work with Dorking FC through sponsorship, ready for the return to Meadowbank, please send your contact details via [email protected] to our Chief Executive, Jason Rabbetts, who will get back to you to discuss a sponsorship plan that meets your aims and budget.
#savedorkingfcDorking FC is doing something different. We are creating a pathway for local young players to pay for their town’s team as part of the non-league football pyramid system. And at the heart of it all is the community. Access for all, free football for all our players, quality coaching and superb facilities shared with all the local youth clubs and regenerating Meadowbank to benefit the town centre.
It’s a bright future for the club, the town and the community all tantalisingly within grasp. With your help we can save Dorking FC and make it happen.
Thanks for your support.

THE HISTORY OF DORKING FCFootball has been played in Dorking since the 1830’s. It was first played in the street, and an annual ‘match’ took place every Shrove Tuesday in
Dorking’s High Street. Those on the east of St Martin’s were one team known as the East-enders and those to the West, on the opposing team, were the Westenders. The “pitch” extended all the way from London Bridge Road to the Washway Bridge in Station Road.
The match was preceded by a procession led by a band and men dressed as women collecting donations and carry-ing a cross inscribed with words “kick away both Whig and Tory, wind and water, Dork-ing’s glory”. On the left of the cross was a red, white, and blue ball representing the Union, on the top a gold ball representing the winners, and on the right a red and green ball representing the ‘cockerel colours’ of Dorking. Celebra-tions went on well into the evening when pre‐match collections were first distributed to shopkeepers for window damage and the balance con-sumed in beer at The Sun.
This tradition continued until 1905 when it was outlawed after ten years of suppression, and by which time Association Football had defined formal
rules for the game in 1863 (dic-tating kicking only) when rugby went one way with hands, and “soccer” (abbreviation for Asso-ciation Football) went the other with feet. By now Dorking Foot-ball Club had formed in 1880, establishing itself as the second oldest football club in
Surrey and one of the oldest in the country. The club originally played in green and red striped shirts with white shorts – the three colours representing the famous Dorking cockerel.
The cockerel was also very apparent as the main feature of the club’s badge, and hence the club soon became affec-tionately known as “the Chicks”.
The team first played at a site on West Bank before moving to a pitch off Fairfield Drive and then later to Pixham Lane in the 1920s. The Chicks didn’t move to its current location at Meadowbank until 1953 when their success demanded better facilities and a new ground was built on an old dumpsite.
The new Meadowbank had a capacity of 5000 and a stand that accommodated 700. The ground was opened by the then FA Secretary Sir Stanley Rous and was inaugurated by an exhibition match against Corin-thian Casuals. Dorking’s most successful FA Cup run followed in 1955 when they beat Folkestone 3 – 1 in front of a home crowd of more than 4000 before going out in the next
round to local rivals Epsom. In the 1950s annual spectator club membership stood at more than 1000.

STAINES LAMMAS:CLUB HISTORY
Staines Lammas Football Club was founded in 1926 and took its name from the park land adjacent to the River Thames in Staines, Middlesex (now known as Staines-on-Thames).
The Club played in various Leagues under the jurisdiction of the Middlesex County Football Association at the Lammas until the mid-1980’s when the Club moved to the Laleham Recreation Ground, Laleham. At this time the Club changed its affiliation from the Hounslow and District League to the Woking League under the jurisdiction
of the Surrey County Football Association. The Club remains affiliated to both Counties.
In the period since its move to Laleham the Club has made steady progress through the football league pyramid, gaining promotion to the Surrey County Intermediate League (Western). The Club progressed through the
divisions and won the Middlesex Intermediate Cup in season 2000-01 and the Division One title in season 2001-02 (there was no Premier Division at the time).
At the end of the 2000-01 season the Club completed the development of its new Sports Pavilion and changing room facilities with the financial support of local businesses and significant grants from the Football Association and Sport England. It was a notable success at the time and represented the first such grant awarded by Sport
England in the Borough of Spelthorne. As a result of its success both on and off the field the Club achieved promotion to the Surrey Senior League.
In season 2003-04 the Surrey Senior League amalgamated with the Combined Counties Football League (CCFL) with the Clubs forming Division One of the CCFL and the existing clubs forming the Premier Division of the
Competition. The Club settled into mid-table security and at the start of the 2006-07 following the appointment of Nathan Wharf as its manager (previously manager of Ashford Town (Middx.) Football Club) success soon
followed.
The Club that season shared the Southern Combination Cup with Merstham Football Club when a date for the Final could not be agreed. In the following season 2007-08 the Club were champions of Division One and
achieved the double in 2008-9 by retaining the title and winning the CCFL Division One League Cup.
The Club unfortunately was unable to gain promotion to the Premier Division as it could not meet the necessary ground grading requirements and having been refused planning permission to install floodlights at Laleham, the Club decided to enter into a ground sharing agreement with Ashford Town (Middx.) Football Club for the
2009-10 season.
In season 2011-12 the Club achieved more silverware when it won both the Middlesex and Surrey County Football Associations Saturday Premier Cups a remarkable and unique feat in modern times. After careful consideration the Club decided to return its “home” at the Recreation Ground, Laleham in season 2015-16.
The Club has a healthy Youth Section comprising some thirteen teams and has recently formed links with Colne Valley Ladies Football Club who play their home fixtures at Laleham.
