WelcomeDoric is proud of our various associations in motorsport, with the 2012 season marking Doric’s ninth straight year of delivering money can’t buy experiences for our staff and valued clients.

This year sees our Doric Racing family remain intact from 2011, with our main involvement being our support of stand-out V8 Supercar squad, Ford Performance Racing. Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom are two of the brightest shining stars in Australian motorsport, and we are sure that they will once again fly the Doric flag proudly.

FPR is a team on the rise, and we hope to receive some fantastic coverage with our logo placed in front of the team’s in-car cameras, as well as on the team uniforms and on Will’s helmet.

James Moffat is a star in the making, his performances in his first full season last year for Dick Johnson Racing were outstanding.

James is a star in the making, and has the right team behind him to get the job done. His number 18 machine is the very car that James Courtney drove to the championship victory in 2010, so keep an eye on our young charge as the season progresses.

Speaking of legends, John Bowe is back for more in 2012 with his awesome Mustang in the Touring Car Masters. JB has won everything there is to win in Australian motorsport, and just keeps on keeping on. Last year he managed to add the TCM title to his long list of career achievements, and he will be looking to repeat the performance this year.

Last but not least is Team Motologic in the Australian Superbike Championships. The team stays the same as last year- Jamie Stauffer and Wayne Maxwell on Hondas, with the combination proving successful in 2011.

Under the leadership of Superbike guru Paul Free, Wayne and Jamie will be two to watch as the season goes on.

Motorsport is competitive, exciting, passionate & innovative, we at Doric stand for all those values, and as the slogan says, Doric are the Innovators.

Enjoy your new look Racer magazine, and your day at the races.

I look forward to speaking with you and moving forward in business together.

2012 Stats:9x Wins

Will Davison has had the best start to a season of his career. Out of nine V8 Supercar Championship races this year, he has won five of them and has made it

onto the podium eight times. Davison dominated the last round at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth, where he won two out of the three Championship races. “What an amazing sport this is. After finishing 25th in the first race in Perth I was crushed. However, in the next two races everything seemed to go our way and to secure another two wins was fantastic,” Will Davison said. “We have a really strong car and the boys did a great job in the pits. I am really, really pleased with how I am travelling so far this season.” Phillip Island is a circuit Davison has fond memories of. Not only is the track in his home state of Victoria, he was victorious here in 2009. “To be racing back at Phillip Island is fantastic. I can’t wait to see how the car goes on the bigger circuit and to race in front of my home crowd.” Teammate Mark Winterbottom is also having one of the best starts to a season of his career. He finished on the podium in all three races in Perth, including winning the opening race of the weekend. “It was fantastic to have such a successful weekend in the West. The car went really well and I am looking forward to the next challenge,” Mark Winterbottom said. Winterbottom remains third on the Championship rankings. However, he has extended his lead over the fourth placed Craig Lowndes. “I hope I can continue my good form at Phillip Island, a place where I won six years ago. I hope I can close the gap between myself, teammate Will Davison and current series leader Jamie Whincup.” James Moffat continues to improve this season, although he had a hard weekend in Perth, two weeks ago. His day ended early in race one after a bump from another competitor, while handling difficulties and a badly timed Safety Car ended hopes of strong finishes in both Sunday races. “Perth was a really tough event for me. In the first race the car didn’t have the pace and in the second the Safety Car fell badly for us,” James Moffat said. “I am sure our luck will turn around soon and I hope it starts at Phillip Island this weekend, a place where I love racing.”

Maxwell Wins in WA

Doric rider Wayne Maxwell was on top in round three of the Australian Superbike Championship in Perth, winning race five.

Maxwell has now moved into second position in the Championship rankings, heading into the next round at Phillip Island. “It was fantastic to win in Perth! I got a great start and the bike had pretty good grip. The team put a lot of work in the lead up to this event and it showed out on the track in wet conditions,” Wayne Maxwell said. Teammate Jamie Stauffer is two spots behind Maxwell, in fourth position. Stauffer had mixed fortunes at the Barbagallo circuit, where he finished ninth in the opening race and just missed out on a podium finish in the final race of the weekend. “The Perth round was really tough. The team made some changes to my bike after a wet qualifying session on Friday and I was pretty close to the mark then. Unfortunately in the weekend’s races I struggled for grip,” Jamie Stauffer said. Both Doric riders head to Phillip Island this weekend, hoping to bridge the gap between current Championship leader Josh Waters. “I am looking forward to continuing the momentum at Phillip Island and going for another race win,” Maxwell said. “This will be the second time we have raced on the Island this year. I managed to do pretty well here last time, so I am hoping to repeat the performance again.” “I love racing at Phillip Island. It’s a really great track and provides for some excellent racing, “Stauffer said. “I am hoping for a trouble free weekend and I am confident of climbing back up the rankings.”

JB Starts 2012 with a win at Clipsal

John Bowe has got off to the perfect start this season as he aims to defend his 2011 Touring Car Masters title.

Bowe dominated the opening round of the Series at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, where he won two out of the three races. “When you win the round it’s a good thing to achieve. The car has always been good here, it suits the circuit,” John Bowe said. “The only hiccup in Adelaide was that we sustained damage to the bonnet. We were really surprised when we had a supporter lend me the bonnet of his ’69 Mustang from his road car, which is just amazing to have that support.” Bowe’s car which is nicknamed ‘Mustang Sally’ had a makeover before the first event of the season in Adelaide. Every part of ‘Sally’ was dismantled and rebuilt, she was also given a new and improved engine. “Sally went really well in the opening race of the season. She is running as smooth as ever,” Bowe said. The next event on the Touring Car Masters calendar is at Phillip Island in May, where Bowe is keen to keep his early season success going. “This series just keeps getting better with all the cars and drivers lifting their game. The competition is definitely getting tighter and each race is becoming more of a workout! “I haven’t raced Sally at Phillip Island in a long time, so I’m keen to see how she goes here.” Off the track and Bowe has been busy visiting family in America and attending the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.

Behind the Scenes at Doric Honda Racing

Honda Motologic team ‘s principal Paul Free had a distinguished career in the saddle, but his efforts as a team manager have been nothing short of

remarkable. In 2002, he took on the challenge of building a new factory team for Honda and has achieved nothing short of astounding results. With two Supersport and Superbike championships and two manufacturer’s cups in a row under his belt in 2004 and 2005 for Honda Australia, Free had proven to the paddock his engineering prowess. At the end of 2007, Paul started Team Motologic, winning the 2008 Australian Superbike Championship with Glenn Allerton aboard the Honda CBR1000RR. After finishing second and third in the 2009 season standings, Motologic took on a new challenge, bringing Ducati back to the championship for the first time in 10 years. In 2011 however, the decision was made to return to the Honda family and Team Honda Racing enters the 2011 Australian Superbike Championship with two of the best riders in the country and Team Principle, Paul Free has his sights squarely set on the number one plate. The CBR1000RR has been used extensively in the international racing scene since its inception in 2004. Chris Vermeulen and the Dutch Ten Kate team placed the bike fourth in the standings in its debut year in the World Superbike class. The following year, the bike and team secured runner-up honours. In 2007, the Hannspree Ten Kate team was able to secure the first World Superbike Championship with the CBR1000RR with Briton James Toseland. Also, Ryuichi Kiyonari was able to win back to back titles in the British Superbike Championship in 2006-07 using the CBR1000RR with the HM Plant Honda team. The vital stats of the Team Honda Racing machine are impressive; the inline four-cylinder 999cc machine produces 205hp. Weighing in at only 169kg, the Honda has one of the highest power to weight ratios of any machine on the planet. The standard road bike actually weighs in 2kg lighter than its thoroughbred racing cousin, but its down on power, with only 175hp on tap.The race bike however features a Motec Engine Management systm, specialised suspension, fairings, sprockets, chain, exhaust, racing slicks, and braking components.

Page 24: Doric Racer - Phillip Island 2012 Edition

Wayne Maxwell rode his first motorcycle at the age of 4 years old and

began his racing career at the age of 12 in dir t bike and motorcross

series. Wayne moved into the road racing scene in 1997 on a Moriwaki

MH80. Competing in various state events on an RGV250 in 1999, the

new millenium saw Wayne reach factory team status when in 2001

he raced for the factory Kawasaki Superbike team, finishing on the

podium many times.

In 2003, Wayne finished 6th in the Australian Championship

aboard a Kawasaki ZX6R in a satellite team.

From 2004 - 2006 Wayne road for a satellite Kawasaki

team on a ZX10R with ever improving results. 2006

saw him take 3rd overall at the MotoGP suppor t

races at Phillip Island and earned him a place in the

factory team for 2007.

Racing in both Superspor t and Superbike classes

in 2007, after a shaky star t, Wayne finished 6th in

both classes.

The Wollongong rider then caught the attention

of Honda Australia and in 2008 was signed up to

ride for the factory Teknic Honda Team to race in

the Superspor t class on a CBR600RR. This was an

extremely successful season for Wayne as he won 5

races and finished 3rd overall.

In 2009, Wayne moved into the Superbike class remaining in

a factory team with Motologic Racing. Racing a CBR1000RR,

Wayne came within 7 points of winning the Australian Championship,

but a serious crash at the final round saw him finish a very strong 2nd.

In 2010, Wayne raced for the Demolition Plus GAS Team on a

Honda and again showed his pace on the track, coming 2nd overall

in the Superbike Class.
