WELCOMEI can’t believe it’s already the start of the 2013 V8 Supercar season and what a way to begin with the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

I would like to officially welcome you to our Doric corporate suite for what should be a spectacular weekend of racing.

As you know FPR driver Will Davison is a Doric ambassador and a proud member of the Doric family. We will continue our association with Will for this year and we wish him all the best as he races for victory this weekend.

Our Doric Racing family had a brilliant run in 2012 with all bar one of our sponsored teams, drivers and riders taking victories, so let’s hope that continues this year.

Doric is proud of our various associations in motorsport, with the 2013 season marking Doric’s tenth straight year delivering money can’t buy experiences for our valued clients & staff.

Our sponsorship of Ford Performance Racing (FPR) has taken our brand exposure to a new level & helped raise the professionalism & image of the Doric brand. Drivers Will Davison & Mark Winterbottom are great ambassadors and we are proud to be associated with such a professional and front running team.

We have received some fantastic coverage from the Doric logos placed on the inside of the car and on Will’s racing suit, and we hope that continues again this year.

Our longest running ambassador is motorsport legend John Bowe. JB drove for PCR in his final season on the V8 Supercar circuit in 2007 & we have supported JB in his current venture in the Touring Car Masters series driving ‘Mustang Sally’. JB is entertaining, engaging & a legend who continues to deliver value for the Doric business.

Doric Team Honda Racing will have a new rider this year, with young gun Josh Hook joining Jamie Stauffer in the team for the upcoming Australian Superbike Championship. We wish them all the best for the season.

Motorsport is competitive, exciting, passionate & innovative, we at Doric stand for all those values, and as the slogan says, Doric are the Innovators.

We hope you enjoy your day at the Clipsal 500 with Doric; it is a pleasure to host you in our private suite.

I look forward to speaking with you here at track and moving forward in business together.

THEFUTURE IS HERE

The next generation of V8 Supercar racing kicks off this weekend here at the Clipsal 500. For the first time since the start of the 1994 season, Ford and Holden will be joined on the grid by Nissan and Mercedes. To allow these new manufacturers to join the party, wholesale changes have been made to the rule book. Thus, every single car you see on the grid this weekend is entering its first ever race meeting. With a level playing field, a lot of questions will be answered this weekend. Sit back, and enjoy history being made in front of you...

One of the things you may notice is the lack of a ‘Larry Bar’, the diagonal piece of roll cage that ran across the front windscreen. A new non-glass windscreen has been utilised, which significantly strengthens the front area of the car. Following recent accidents revolving the rear of the car and fire, the fuel tank has been brought forward of the rear axle line, limiting the possibility of fire. In a bid to improve frontal impact safety, the engine has been moved further towards the windscreen, as well as lowers in the engine bay of the car.

6

Page 7: Doric Racer, Clipsal 500 2013, edition 33

7

The basis of the V8 Supercar Car of the Future (COTF) concept is a standardised chassis, with each individual manufacturer producing their own 5-litre V8 engine, and their own distinctive bodywork. Following extensive aerodynamic and engine dyno testing, it is hoped that all four makes of car are on a level playing field from the start of the season.

Some of the technical changes to the machines under the COTF framework include new larger wheels to 18 inch, although the overall diameter of the tyre remains the same by virtue of a lower profile Dunlop control tyre. The bigger wheel also allows for bigger brakes. Gone is the Hollinger gearbox, replaced by a transaxle (ie the differential and gearbox are now housed in the one unit on the back axle).

A by-product of moving to a transaxle, there is more room now around what was formerly the transmission tunnel. This means that the driver’s seating position can be brought closer to the centre line of the car, improving safety in the event of side impacts.

All told, the COTF should provide a safer and faster race car, while adding new interest to the sport with new manufacturers.

Page 8: Doric Racer, Clipsal 500 2013, edition 33

Red HotWill Davison heads into the 2013 season full of confidence and is ready to fight for and win his first V8 Supercar Championship title. Davison is coming off an impressive 2012 season where he finished fourth in the race for the Championship, won the Pole Award and recorded eight races victories. He is looking to continue that good form at this weekend’s season opener in Adelaide for the Clipsal 500, which is a track he was successful on last year. “Last year proved we can lead from the front and win and I know those experiences will only make us all stronger in 2013,” Will Davison said.

The Pepsi Max Crew FPR driver will compete in his new race car with a special livery, which has been inspired by fire and ice. “This is certainly the wildest looking race car I’ve ever had, but to think I had a part in designing it is really neat and it is a fresh approach by a factory team.” Off the track and Davison will continue his role as Doric Ambassador for 2013. “I’m looking forward to strengthening my relationship with the Doric brand. I have a strong desire to succeed and I know with the support I have behind me including from Doric, I will have a great season.”

Ice Man

Mark Winterbottom is expecting 2013 to be one of the toughest V8 Supercar seasons of his career. This year will see the addition of Nissan and Mercedes’ race cars to the grid and the introduction of the Car of the Future. “Nobody knows what will happen this year with so many new things going on, however the team has done a good job to be in such a strong position with the new car,” Mark Winterbottom said. The Pepsi Max FPR crew driver will line up alongside Will Davison for the third straight year and will compete in the same fire and ice livery as his team mate. “This year is about a fresh approach in how

we look and with the new cars the racing will be different. The core members of our team are the same so we have stability off track, which is great to have entering the season.” On top of his V8 Supercar and Doric commitments, Winterbottom will also be the ambassador for the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne. “I have grown up watching Formula One and am thrilled to be the V8 Supercar ambassador for the Australian Grand Prix. I won at the Grand Prix in 2012 and can’t wait to get our cars out on the Albert park track in March.”

Touring Car Masters Champion John Bowe has given his beloved 1969 Ford Mustang a fresh new look for the 2013 season. Nicknamed ‘Mustang Sally’, the race car has a flash new livery, which will be on show at the opening round of the series at Sydney Motorsport Park in March. “It’s a bit like Madonna reinventing herself. ‘Sally’ will look new and fresh thanks to the stunning ssMEDIA livery,” an excited John Bowe said. The Doric Ambassador is aiming for his third

straight Touring Car Masters title after a stunning 2012 season, where he managed to win 14 out of the 24 races. If Bowe is successful in winning the series, it will be the first time in the event’s history a driver has won three titles in a row. “This year will be action packed because there are a lot more competitive cars joining the series. “I race to enjoy myself and have fun. The Touring Car Masters is a series I love competing in and enjoy the most, so bring on Sydney!” 12

Can you spot the Ferrari?... Because the other cars struggled!

13

John Bowe’s 2013 season got off to an inauspicious start at the Bathurst 12 Hour, with a tangle with slower traffic curtailing his run aboard the camouflage Maranello Motorpsort Ferrari 458.With over 50 cars on the circuit, including vehicles as diverse as latest European GT3-specification machines, right down to baby class production cars, there was a great disparity in vehicle speeds.Bowe unfortunately found out the hard way that the lapped traffic doesn’t always see the faster cars approaching, with a tap from a Spanish built Seat sending the car out of the race.“A slower car tagged me at the top of the hill and put me into the wall at McPhillamy,” Bowe said.“It’s disappointing for the team, as the finish could have been so much better. I’m a bit sore, but in better shape than the 458.”Sharing driving duties with Bowe was car owner Peter Edwards, Allan Simonsen and Former Ferrari F1 driver Mika Salo, who started the race.A skirmish between slower traffic saw the Ferrari brush the wall in the early exchanges, which may have developed into serious suspension issues later in the race, which cost the outfit 16 laps while repairs were carried out.

Page 14: Doric Racer, Clipsal 500 2013, edition 33

Doric Team Honda Racing will have a mix of experience and youth for this year’s Australian Superbike Championship. Jamie Stauffer has been joined by young rider Josh Hook, who finished second in last year’s 600 Supersport Category. Hook replaces Wayne Maxwell, who left Team Honda Racing at the end of last season. “I am super pumped to be part of this team and I look forward to the challenges ahead and taking my racing to the next level,” Josh Hook said. Stauffer and Hook revealed their eye-catching new liveries for their Honda CBR 1000RR bikes at the World Superbike event at Phillip Island last weekend. They were given wildcard entries, with Stauffer competing in the World Superbike race while Hook rode in the World Supersport race. “My career has seen me race in Australia and overseas and I have had a lot of success, however to get the chance to race against the world’s best Superbike riders was a terrific challenge,” Jamie Stauffer said. “To start my year off at the World Superbike Championship competing as a wildcard entry alongside the best riders was a fantastic experience,” Josh Hook said. The first Official round of the Australian Superbike Championship will be held at Symmons Plains in Tasmania from April 5 – 7.

Page 23: Doric Racer, Clipsal 500 2013, edition 33

Last year’s Clipsal 500 in Adelaide proved to be a successful start to the V8 Supercar season for Doric racers. Will Davison recorded an emphatic race win and a podium finish in the weekend’s two races. It was Davison’s first race victory for Ford Performance Racing and it helped him to secure the early lead over rival Jamie Whincup in the race for the V8 Supercar Championship. Teammate Mark Winterbottom also had an impressive start to the 2012 season in Adelaide. He finished the weekend on the podium after he came second in Race Two, which made it a one-two finish for Doric Racers. In the Australian Touring Car Masters Series, Doric Ambassador John Bowe also had plenty of success on the streets of Adelaide. Bowe won two out of the weekend’s three races to set up another impressive season. A massive crowd of over 200,000 people packed onto the streets of Adelaide over the four days to watch the Clipsal 500, which was one of the biggest attendances for a V8 Supercar Championship weekend in 2012.

This weekend’s Clipsal 500 in Adelaide is the beginning of a new era for the V8 Supercar Championship. Two new manufacturers Nissan and Mercedes will enter the competition, and there will also be the introduction of the Car of the Future. There should be plenty of exciting racing early on as all teams and drivers come to grips with the changes. The Clipsal 500 is one of the best V8 Supercar Championship weekend’s on the calendar with a massive crowd of over 250 thousand people expected over the four days. Last year Will Davison proved he could win on this circuit and he will be looking to repeat that impressive performance again this weekend. While teammate Mark Winterbottom will be looking for his first win on the streets of Adelaide. However both drivers will have to stop reigning V8 Supercar Champion Jamie Whincup who has dominated the Clipsal 500 in recent years. Whincup has won five times in Adelaide over the past six years and will be the driver to beat this weekend.
