2. A copy of the front and back of the MissouriCertificate of Title in the applicant’s name.

NOTE: If the title is assigned to an individual,he or she must also apply for anoriginal title, and pay all sales taxes,a title fee and a title penalty, if applicable. A registered dealer is not

required to apply for a title in the

dealership’s name, but must submit acopy for the title assigned to them,comply with inspection requirementsand pay the appropriate fee.

3. A $7.50 replacement identification numberplate fee and $2.50 processing fee.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol must affix theassigned or replacement vehicle identificationnumber plate to the rebuilt vehicle. Whenapplication for title is made in conjunctin withthe identification number plate request, the title will

not issue until the plate is affixed and verified byauthorized law enforcement.

TITLING A REBUILT MOTORVEHICLE/OBTAINING A VEHICLEIDENTIFICATION NUMBER PLATE

When you purchase a motor vehicle and aSalvage Certificate of Title has been assigned toyou, you must have the rebuilt vehicle examined

by authorized law enforcement (see item fourbelow). In some cases, the examination mayreveal that your vehicle needs a new orreplacement identification number plate. Therequirements are outlined in this brochure.

You must submit the requirements outlined belowbefore you can title your rebuilt vehicle. The newcertificate of title that issues in your name will bedesignated as “Prior Salvage” on the face of thetitle. If you have any questions regarding the

information outlined in this brochure, please call(573) 751-4509.

TITLING REQUIREMENTS

1. A Salvage Certificate of Title assigned to you;

NOTE: If the title is not a “conforming” titlethat meets federal odometer disclosurerequirements, you must attach anodometer disclosure statement to thesalvage title for a vehicle less than 10years old.

2. A bill of sale indicating the purchase price of the vehicle;

3. An Application for Missouri Title and License(DOR-108) completed and signed;

4. A Vehicle Examination Certificate (DOR-551);

NOTE: The white copy must accompany yourapplication. The applicant shouldcomplete the top half of the form andthe Missouri State Highway Patrol

Inspector or other authorized officermust complete the bottom portion.

You may purchase this form for $25.00with a $2.50 processing fee applied froma license office, or from the MotorVehicle Bureau, P.O. Box 2076, JeffersonCity, MO 65105-2076. Upon receipt of the form, you must make anappointment with an authorized law

enforcement agent to inspect the vehicle.

5. Notarized bills of sale in the applicant’s namefor all major component parts listed in item 8on the Vehicle Examination Certificate(DOR-551);

NOTE: On the reverse side of the form aredefinitions of major component parts.Each descriptive bill of sale must alsoinclude the purchase price, year, makeand vehicle identification number of the

motor vehicle from which the parts wereobtained.

6. A copy of the front and back of the Certificateof Title for the vehicle(s) from which theMAJOR COMPONENT PARTS were obtainedthat are listed in item 8 on the Vehicle Exam-nation Certificate (DOR-551);

7. All invoices, receipts, and bills of sales for anyparts listed in item 9 on the Vehicle

Examination Certificate (DOR-551);

8. A $2.50 processing fee and either an $8.50title fee, or a $13.50 quick title fee,and,

9. All state and local taxes on the purchase priceof the vehicle and any parts that do notindicate that sales taxes were previously paid.
