WELCOME TO DIVINE MERCY CATHOLIC CHURCH

Fifth Sunday

of Lent

March 17, 2013 ~ John 8:11

“Neither do I condemn you. Go, and do not sin again.”

~ Fr. Soane Kaniseli~ Fr. Soane Kaniseli~ Fr. Soane Kaniseli~ Fr. Soane Kaniseli

St. Paul actually says, “Because of the supreme good of supreme good of supreme good of supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may

Through the Sacrament

of Penance, Jesus is

saying to the repentant

person, “Neither do I

condemn you. Go, and

from now on do not sin

anymore.”

WWWW e heard in today's First Reading First Reading First Reading First Reading the prophetic words of the Lord God when he spoke to Prophet Isaiah.

The Lord God began by identifying Himself. He created Israel, led the Exodus of His people under the leadership of Moses, divided the Red Sea and destroyed the great army of the Pharaoh of Egypt. He quenched the life out of the enemies of His people. It is for our advantage that we know God as our eternal and Powerful God.

SSSS t. Paul in today’s Second Reading Second Reading Second Reading Second Reading from his Letter to the Philippians reminds us the words of St. Peter: “You are a

chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his

own, so that you may announce the praises of him who called you

out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were “no

people” but now you are God’s people; you had not received

mercy but now you have received mercy [1 Pet. 2:9-10].

gain Christ and be found in Him, not having any righteousness of my own based on the law but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God, depending on faith to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings by being conformed to His death, if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead.” In other words, to know Christ as we should know Him is far surpasses an intellectual knowledge. It involves a personal daily relationship between Jesus and ourselves which surpasses all the worldly pleasures and wealth that can be gained in our lifetime.

IIII n today's Gospel Reading, Jesus gave us a basic command to help us on our way in order to win our race to heaven, if we are persevering in our living

faith. Jesus said, “Go your way, and from now on do not sin again”. It means that faith alone is not sufficient. If you say you have faith but continue to live in mortal sin, you will not win the race to enter the Kingdom of God. Now let us show our gratitude to God’s mercy by having a change of heart to reject sinning again. Resolve to refrain from judging others. Strive towards sanctification before making false concern with the needs of others. For it is through the grace of God, our faith and a successful walk in the love of Christ that others will learn from us how they should walk in the love of Christ.

Take advantage of the last few weeks of Lent and make the resolution to sin no more.Take advantage of the last few weeks of Lent and make the resolution to sin no more.Take advantage of the last few weeks of Lent and make the resolution to sin no more.Take advantage of the last few weeks of Lent and make the resolution to sin no more.

Habemus Papam!Habemus Papam!Habemus Papam!Habemus Papam!

Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, 76 was elected the 266th pope and took the name Francis.

The election came on the first full day of the conclave on the conclave's fifth ballot. It was a surprisingly quick conclusion to a conclave that began with many plausible candidates and no clear favorite.

The Latin American pope, a Jesuit, was chosen by at least two-thirds of the 115 cardinals from 48 countries, who cast their ballots in secret in the Sistine Chapel.

Pope Francis has had a growing reputation as a very spiritual man with a talent for

pastoral leadership serving in a region with the largest number of the world's Catholics.

Since 1998, he has been archbishop of Buenos Aires, where his style is low-key and close to the people.

He rides the bus, visits the poor, lives in a simple apartment and cooks his own meals. To many in Buenos Aires, he is known simply as "Father Jorge."

His election was announced in Latin from the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, to a massive crowd in the square below and millions watching around the world.

“I will now give my

blessing to you and to the

whole world, to all men and

women of good will...Thank

you for your welcome. Pray

for me and I will be with

you again soon...We will

see one another soon.”

T he rubric in the Sacramentary (Roman Missal) states: "The practice of covering crosses and images in the church may be observed, if the episcopal conference decides. The

crosses are to be covered until the end of the celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday. Images are to remain covered until the beginning of the Easter vigil."

So this practice is dependent upon the decision of the bishops' conference of a given country.

However, the covering is not done throughout all of Lent. The crosses (crucifixes) are to be covered only from the Fifth Sunday of Lent until Good Friday (as the rubric states), and other images are to be covered only from the Fifth Sunday of Lent until the Easter vigil.

The purpose of covering the crosses is to emphasize it being revealed on Good Friday. The purpose of covering other images is to take the focus off the images and focus the attention of the people on the central mysteries of our faith -- the death and resurrection of Jesus.
