For you to be eligible for our $2,000.00 Catholic high school scholarship you must be a descendent of a United Italian Society member. Our scholarship application requires the following: 1. Transcripts of previous grade and current grade only. 2. A PERSONAL ESSAY- five paragraphs discussing the following: Your Italian heritage and ties. Only include the Region/town that your family is from (no family names). You are to share how being of Italian descent is meaningful to you and how you incorporate your Italian roots in your life. Your academic achievements and community service. Your current and future goals as a student and after academics The essay must be no longer than three (3) double spaced pages and it must be typed. Keep in mind, quality of writing will be an important aspect of your essay. 3. A SECOND ESSAY – a three paragraph biography. Choose one of the following first generation of Italian immigrants who have “Made a Difference” in United States history and interject how the person you chose may influence your life choice. o Art: Mario de Ferrante, or o Auto Industry: Lee Iacocca, or o Law/Politics: Judge Antonin Scalia or Geraldine Ferraro, or o Music: Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett, or o Science: Enrico Fermi, or o Sports: Joe DiMaggio The completed application, transcripts, and two essays must be sent via US mail (snail mail) and received by July 31, 2021. Please allow a few days for mailing. The Scholarship Award will be presented at the September Meeting of the United Society, which is held on the First Tuesday of the month. To ensure the confidentiality of each applicant, ALL APPLICATONS MUST BE SEALED AND MAILED. If an application is received in any other manner, the Applicant will forfeit their eligibility.
