Letter from the Associate Dean Over the past several years both in the college and at the university level, we’ve been talking about our scholarship profile and how we might improve it. We know that the university successfully reached the level of R2: Higher Research Activity, and now sights are set on exploring how we might look ahead to achieving the status of R1: Highest Research. This aspirational goal can be heard as daunting, but the graduate committee and I see many ways in which this brings opportunity for us as a college. We have seen substantial and incremental changes over time in our college all that speak to how we are contributing to the growth of Marquette’s scholarship. Three of our faculty have been promoted to the rank of full professor within the past two years, bringing the total number of full professors in our college to nine. This underscores the active research agendas of our faculty. We have expanded our understanding of scholarship to bring to life a new vision for ourselves and the university as our performing arts faculty and creative digital media colleagues are pursuing tenure and promotion based on the merit of their creative and artistic work. This year our expanded Scholarship Week features alumni engaged in research and the participation of half of our faculty in the research poster session. The number of graduate students participating has also increased and we have undergraduates who will be sharing their work as well. These are all signs of an active conversation about scholarship and a culture that supports and values the significance of scholarship. It is has been a great year and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead. Diederich Celebrates Faculty Scholarship

Letter from the Associate Dean

Over the past several years both in the college and at the university level, we’ve been talking about our scholarship profile and how we might improve it.
