The academic book market is experiencing a period of significant growth and development
Librarians are already making choices when purchasing library stock, regarding format supplier etc
The Current Situation at Edge Hill University on EBook provision: Ebook Packages
Use 4 main eBook providers for Packages Ebrary: over 50,000 titles
History eBook Collection: over 2,000 titles
Netlibrary (Ebsco): over 8,000 titles Taylor and Francis: 180 titles
All these packages have a yearly
subscription. We do not “own” the books.

We use 2 main EBook providers for Bought Titles
Myilibrary (Coutts) Dawsonera (Dawsons)
These books are ordered as part of the
Library’s ordering process.
The Different Models: Myilibrary
We can buy single access or multiple access
They can only be read online
There are limits to printing and saving

We buy credits
Credits are zeroed annually
They can be downloaded onto a PC to read offline
The user cannot print/save offline
There is limited printing/saving online

This model works by the Library loading selected records of E-books into the Library Catalogue

Libraries make a commitment of £25,000 minimum
Librarians can choose EBooks up to the value of £100,000
They can limit by specific subject areas/maximum price
2nd time the book is accessed, it is bought automatically and owned by the library
Licence is multiuser

No Deposit Needed Libraries can limit by specific subject
areas/maximum price Free 5 minute preview of the book After 5 minutes browsing, a message
advising browsing of the book has elapsed Then reader the must either rent/buy/leave
the book If renting the book, it can be rented up to 3
times
What’s out there in the Market Place?
Patron Rentals
Dawsons Rental charges are the same as PDA i.e.
mainly 9% for one week loan.
Taylor and Francis Students can rent for one day or up to 6
months A book which costs £29.99 to buy can be
rented for: One day at a cost of £3.00 One month would be £9.00 6 months would be £19.95
