Devarim 1st Aliyah (Deu 1)

1 These are the words which Moshe spoke to all Isra'el on that side of the Yardenin the wilderness, in the plainopposite Suf, between Pa'ran and Tofel, and Lavan, and Hatzerot and Di-Zahav. 2 (It is eleven days' journey from Horev by way of Mount Se'ir to Kadesh-Barnea.)

Devarim 1st Aliyah (Deu 1)

3 And it came to pass in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moshe spoke to the children of Isra'el according to all that had commanded him concerning them.

Devarim 1st Aliyah (Deu 1)

4 After he had smitten Sichon sovereign of the Emori, who lived in Heshbon, and 'Og sovereign of Bashan, who dwelt at 'Ashtarot in Edre'i.5 On that side of the Yarden, in the land of Mo'av, Moshe commenced and explained this Torah, saying:

Devarim 1st Aliyah (Deu 1)

6 our Elohim spoke to us in Horev, saying, You have dwelt long enough at this mountain.

Devarim 1st Aliyah (Deu 1)

7 Turn and set your way, and go to the mountains of the Emori, and to all the neighbouring places in the 'Aravah, in the mountains and in the Sh'felah, and in the Negev and on the seacoast, to the land of the Kena'ani and to L'vanon, as far as the great river, the River Euphrates.

Devarim 1st Aliyah (Deu 1)

8 See, I have set the land before you. Go in and possess the land which swore to your fathersto Avraham, to Yitz'chak and to Ya'akovto give to them and their seed after them.9 And I spoke to you at that time, saying, I am not able to bear the burden of you alone.

Devarim 1st Aliyah (Deu 1)

10 your Elohim has increased you, and behold, you are today asthe stars of the heavens in abundance. 11 May Elohim of your fathers, increase you a thousand times more than you are and bless you as he has promised you!

Devarim 2nd Aliyah (Deu 1)

12 How can I bear your pressure and your burden and your strife all by myself? 13 Choose wise men, and understanding and known among your tribes, and I will appoint them as your heads.

Devarim 2nd Aliyah (Deu 1)

14 And you answered me and said, The word which you have spoken is good for us to do.

Devarim 2nd Aliyah (Deu 1)

15 So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men and known, and made them heads over youleaders of thousands, and leaders of hundreds, and leaders of fifties and leaders of tens and officers for your tribes.

Devarim 2nd Aliyah (Deu 1)

16 And I commanded your judges at that time, saying, Hear the disputes between your brothers and judge righteously between every man and his brother or the stranger who is with him.

Devarim 2nd Aliyah (Deu 1)

17 You shall not show partiality in judgment; rather you shall hear the small as well as the great. You shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is Elohim's. And the case the case that is too hard for you, bring it to me, and I shall hear it.

Devarim 2nd Aliyah (Deu 1)

18 And I commanded you at that time all the words which you should do.

Devarim 2nd Aliyah (Deu 1)

19 Then we set out from Horev, and went through all that great and awesome wilderness which you saw on the way to the mountains of the Emori, as our Elohim had commanded us, and we came to Kadesh-Barnea.

Devarim 2nd Aliyah (Deu 1)

20 And I said to you, "You have come to the mountains of the Emori, which our Elohim is giving us. 21 See, your Elohim has set the land before you. Go up and possess it, as Elohim of your fathers has spoken to you. Do not fear, nor be discouraged.

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

22 And all of you came near to me and said, Let us send men before us, and let them search out the land for us, and bring back word to us of the way by which we should go up, and of the cities into which we would come.

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

23 And the matter pleased me; so I took twelve of your men, one man from each tribe. 24 And they turned and went up into the mountains, and came to the wadi Eshkol, and spied it out.

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

25 And they took some of the fruit of the land in their hands and brought it down to us. And they brought back word to us, saying, It is a good land which our Elohim is giving us.26 But you would not go up and rebelled against the mouth of your Elohim;

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

27 and you grumbled in your tents and said, Because hates us, he has brought us out of the land of Mitsrayim to give us into the hands of the Emori to destroy us.

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

28 Where can we go up? Our brothers have made our hearts melt, saying, The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to the heavens, and we saw the sons of the 'Anakim there.29 Then I said to you, Do not be terrified, nor fear them.

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

30 your Elohim, who goes before you, he will fight for you, according to all he did for you in Mitsrayim before your eyes, 31 and in the wilderness, where you saw how your Elohim has borne you, as a man bears his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

32 Yet in this matter you do not trust your Elohim, 33 who goes before you on your way, to seek out a place for you to pitch your tents in, to show you the way you should go, in fire by night and in a cloud by day.34 And heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and took an oath, saying,

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

35 Not one of these men, this evil generation, shall see the good land which I swore to give your fathers, 36 except Kalev the son of Y'funeh. He shall see it, and to him and to his sons I will give the land on which he trod upon, because he has followed completely.

Devarim 3rd Aliyah (Deu 1)

37 was enraged with me because of you, saying, "Neither shall you go there. 38 Y'hoshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall go there. Strengthen him, for he shall cause Isra'el to inherit it.

Devarim 4th Aliyah (Deu 1)

39 Moreover your little ones who you said will be prey, and your sons, who on that day have no knowledge of good and evilthey will go there. And I will give it to them and they will possess it. 40 But as for you, turn around and journey into the wilderness by the Way of the Sea of Suf.

Devarim 4th Aliyah (Deu 1)

41 Then you answered and said to me, "We have sinned against . We will go up and fight, just as our Elohim commanded us. And every one of you girded on his weapons, and you prepared yourselves to go up into the mountain.

Devarim 4th Aliyah (Deu 1)

42 And said to me, Say to them, 'Do not go up nor fight, for I am not among you, lest you be smitten before your enemies.43 So I spoke to you, but you would not listen, and you rebelled against the mouth of , and acted proudly, and went up into the mountain.

Devarim 4th Aliyah (Deu 1)

44 The Emori who dwelt in that mountain came out against you and chased you as bees do, and beat you down from Se'ir to Hormah. 45 So you returned and wept before , but would not listen to your voice nor give ear to you.

Devarim 4th Aliyah (Deu 1-2)

46 So you dwelt in Kadesh many daysthe days that you spent there.1 Then we turned and set out into the wilderness by the way of the Sea of Suf, as spoke to me, and we circled Mount Se'ir for many days.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

2 And spoke to me, saying, 3 You have circled this mountain long enough; now turn northward. 4 And command the people, saying: You are about to pass through the territory of your brothers the sons of 'Esav who live in Se'ir, and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

5 Do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, even as little as a footstep, because I have given Mount Se'ir to 'Esav as a possession. 6 You shall buy food from them with silver, that you may eat, and also water you shall buy from them with silver, that you may drink.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

7 For your Elohim has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He has known your wandering through this great wilderness. These forty years your Elohim has been with you, you have not lacked a thing.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

8 And we passed beyond our brothers the sons of 'Esav who dwell in Se'ir, away from the 'Aravah road, away from Eilat and from 'Etzyon-Gever, and we turned and passed through by the way of the Wilderness of Mo'av.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

9 And said to me, Do not distress Mo'av, nor provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land as a possession, because I have given 'Ar to the sons of Lot as a possession.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

10 (The Emim dwelt there formerlya people as great and numerous, and tall in stature, as the 'Anakim. 11 They were also reckoned as Refa'im, as the 'Anakim, but the Mo'avim call them Emim.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

12 And the Horim formerly dwelt in Se'ir, but the sons of 'Esav dispossessed them and destroyed them from before them and dwelt in their place, just as Isra'el did to the land of their possession which gave them.)13 Now rise up and pass over the vadi Zered. So we passed over the vadi Zered.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

14 Now the time that it took for us to come from Kadesh-Barnea until we passed over the vadi Zered was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of battle expired from the midst of the camp, as had sworn to them.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

15 Also the hand of was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp until they were consumed.16 So it came about when all the men of battle had finally perished from among the people, 17 that spoke to me, saying,

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

18 Today you are to pass over 'Ar, the boundary of Mo'av. 19 And when you come opposite the sons of 'Amon, do not distress them nor provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the sons of 'Amon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot as a possession.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

20 (It was also reckoned as a land of the Refa'im, for Refa'im formerly dwelt therein; but the Emori call them Zamzumim, 21 a people as great and numerous and tall as the 'Anakim. But destroyed them before them, and they dispossessed them and dwelt in their place,

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

22 as he did to the sons of 'Esav, who dwelt in Se'ir, when he destroyed the Horim from before them. They dispossessed them and dwelt in their place even to this day. 23 And the 'Avim who dwelt in villages as far as 'Azah, the Kaftorim who came from Kaftor destroyed them and dwelt in their place.)

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

24 Arise, set out and pass over the wadi Arnon. See, I have given into your hand Sichon the Emori, sovereign of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess it and engage him in battle.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

25 This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon the peoples that are under the whole heaven, who, when they hear the report of you, shall tremble and be in anguish because of you.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

26 So I sent messengers from the Wilderness of K'demot to Sichon sovereign of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying, 27 Let me to pass through your land. I shall go only on the highway; I will not turn aside to the right nor to the left.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

28 You shall sell me food for silver that I may eat, and give me water for silver that I may drink. Only let me pass through on foot

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

29 just as the sons of 'Esav who dwell in Se'ir, and the Mo'avim, who dwell in 'Ar did for meuntil I pass over the Yarden to the land which our Elohim is giving us.

Devarim 5th Aliyah (Deu 2)

30 But Sichon sovereign of Heshbon did not wish to let us pass by him. For your Elohim hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate in order to give him into your hand, as he is today.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 2)

31 And said to me, See, I have begun to give Sichon and his land over to you. Begin to possess, that you may possess his land.32 Then Sichon came out to meet us, he and all his people, in battle at Yahatz, 33 and our Elohim gave him over to us, and we smote him with his sons and all his people.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 2)

34 So we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed the men, women and children of every city. We left no survivor. 35 We took only the animals as our plunder and the spoil of the cities which we had captured.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 2)

36 From Aroer which is on the edge of the wadi Arnon and from the city which is in the wadi, even to Gilad, there was no city that was too high for us. our Elohim delivered all over to us.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 2)

37 Only you did not go near to the land of the sons of Amon, all along the wadi Yabok and the cities of the hill country, and wherever our Elohim had commanded us.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

1 Then we turned and went up the way to Bashan, and Og, sovereign of Bashan, with all his people came out to meet us in battle at Edrei.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

2 But said to me, Do not fear him, for I have given him and all his people and his land into your hand; and you shall do to him just as you did to Sichon sovereign of the Emori, who dwelt at Heshbon.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

3 So our Elohim gave Og also, sovereign of Bashan, with all his people into our hand, and we smote them until no survivor was left. 4 We captured all his cities at that time; there was not a city which we did not take from them: sixty cities, all the district of Argov, the reign of Og in Bashan.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

5 All these were cities fenced with high walls, gates and bars, besides a great many unwalled towns. 6 We completely destroyed them, as we did to Sichon sovereign of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women and children of every city.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

7 But all the animals and the spoil of the cities we took as our booty. 8 Thus we took the land at that time from the hand of the two sovereigns of the Emori who were beyond the Yarden, from the wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon 9 (the Tzidonim call Hermon Siryon, and the Emori call it Snir),

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

10 all the cities of the plain, all Gilad, and all Bashan, as far as Salkhah and Edrei, cities of the reign of Og in Bashan.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

11 (For only 'Og sovereign of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Refa'im. Behold, his bedstead was an iron bedstead. Is it not in Rabbah of the sons of 'Amon? Nine cubits was its length and four cubits its width, according to the cubit of a man.)

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

12 And this land, which we possessed at that time, from 'Aro'er, which is by the wadi Arnon, and half the hill country of Gil'ad and its cities, I gave to the Re'uveni and to the Gadi.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

13 And the rest of Gil'ad, and all Bashan, the reign of 'Og, I gave to the half tribe of M'nasheh. (All the district of Argov, all of Bashan; that is called the land of Refa'im.

Devarim 6th Aliyah (Deu 3)

14 Ya'ir the son of M'nasheh took all the district of Argov as far as the border of the G'shuri and the Ma'akhati, and called it, that is, Bashan, after his own name: Havot-Ya'ir, as it is to this day.)

Devarim 7th Aliyah (Deu 3)

15 And to Machir I gave Gil'ad. 16 And to the Re'uveni and to the Gadi I gave from Gil'ad even as far as the wadi Arnon, (the middle of the wadi as the border) and as far as the wadi Yabok, the border of the sons of 'Amon,

Devarim 7th Aliyah (Deu 3)

17 the 'Aravah, with the Yarden as the border, from Kinneret as far as the Sea of the 'Aravah, (the Sea of Salt), below the slopes of Pisgah on the east.

Devarim 7th Aliyah (Deu 3)

18 And I commanded you at that time, saying: your Elohim has given you this land to possess it. All you valiant men shall pass over armed before your brothers, the sons of Isra'el.

Devarim 7th Aliyah (Deu 3)

19 But your wives and your little ones and your livestock (I know that you have much livestock) may stay in your cities which I have given you,

Devarim Maftir (Deu 3)

20 until has given rest to your brothers, just as he did for you, and they also possess the land which your Elohim is giving them beyond the Yarden. Then you shall return, every man to his possession which I have given you.

Devarim Maftir (Deu 3)

21 And I commanded Y'hoshua at that time, saying: Your eyes have seen all that your Elohim has done to these two sovereigns. So will do to all the reigns into which you are about to pass. 22 Do not fear them, for your Elohim is the one fighting for you.
