Detroit Lakes captures fourth consecutive Class A crown;Stillwater Area wins Class AA team championship; Neu of Champlin Park defends Class AA all-around title

Detroit Lakes, which includes studentsfrom Frazee, breezed through the

2018 State Gymnastics Meet and earned itsfourth consecutive team title. The Lakers wonall four events on their way to this year’schampionship.

Stillwater Area placed first on the unevenbars and went on to capture the Class AAteam championship for the first time in pro-gram history.

Chaney Neu of Champlin Park earned hersecond consecutive title in the Class AA all-around with a score of 38.7000. AliahWilliams of Chisago Lakes of Lindstromemerged as the Class A all-around champion.Her winning score was 38.2625.

Class ADetroit Lakes successfully captured its

fourth consecutive Class A team title at the2018 State Gymnastics Meet. The Lakers, whofinished with a team-score of 150.925, wonall four events on their way to the champi-onship. They posted a 37.950 on the vault, a37.525 on the uneven bars, a 37.425 on thebalance beam, and a 38.025 on the floorexercise.

Cora Okeson led Detroit Lakes on thevault (9.525) and uneven bars (9.700).Emma Disse paced the Lakers on the balancebeam (9.550) and floor exercise (9.675).

The co-op of Watertown-Mayer/MoundWestonka placed second at 147.425 andMahtomedi was third at 146.450. Tie-breakercriteria were needed to break a stalematebetween third-place Mahtomedi and fourth-place Sartell-St. Stephen.

In the individual competition, AliahWilliams of Chisago Lakes captured the all-around title with a four-event combinedscore of 38.2625. She placed third on thevault (9.7125), third in the floor exercise(9.5375), fourth on the balance beam(9.4375), and fifth on the uneven bars(9.5750).

Jackson Hegg of Detroit Lakes claimedrunner-up honors in the all-around with ascore of 37.8500. Jennifer Boyle of Austinplaced third at 37.5500. Boyle also claimedher second crown on the uneven bars with atally of 9.6625. She won her first title in2015.

Two Detroit Lakes gymnasts won theirrespective events; Peyton Jernberg was first onthe balance beam (9.5500) and Cora Okesonwon the floor exercise (9.6625).

Greta Klaphake of Melrose Area was thefinal individual winner in Class A. She wonthe vault with a score of 9.7375. This was thesecond title for Klaphake; she won her first in2016.

Class AAIn Class AA, Stillwater Area earned its first

team championship. The victory was animprovement on last year’s fifth-place show-ing. Stillwater Area earned top honors on theuneven bars with a score of 37.450.

Isabel Bartosh led Stillwater Area on thevault (9.700) and uneven bars (9.625).Gretchen Sharp had the top score for thePonies on the balance beam (9.450) and SamiChang posted a 9.675 in the floor exercise.

The defending champions from LakevilleNorth slipped to second place with a score of149.700. The Panthers placed first on the bal-ance beam (37.100) and floor exercise

(38.300). East Ridge of Woodbury claimedthe highest score on the vault (37.900).

Owatonna claimed third-place honorswith a score of 148.700.

In the individual competition, ChaneyNeu of Champlin Park successfully defendedher all-around title with a score of 38.7000.Neu also won her second consecutive cham-pionship in the floor exercise with a score9.7875. Neu placed sixth on the beam(9.5000), second on the uneven bars(9.6750), and second on the vault (9.7375).

Sophie Redding of Henry Sibley ofMendota Heights earned runner-up honorsin the all-around with a score of 38.4125.Lakeville North’s Rachel Steiner was third at37.8375.

Redding also stopped Neu’s quest for asecond consecutive title on the vault, win-ning with a score of 9.9000.

The final two individual winners in ClassAA were Grace Treanor of Wayzata on theuneven bars (9.6875) and BrennaSommerland of Park of Cottage Grove on thebalance beam (9.6500).
