LINCOLN PARK BOATHOUSE LINCOLN PARK BOATHOUSE
The boathouse is located in Chicago’s Northside neighborhood, Lincoln Park, on the banks of the Chicago River. This building is meant to house the Lincoln Park Rowing Club, their training equipment and boats.
The project focuses on a sequence spaces based on three specific programs. The project is divided into three levels: boat storage, community spaces, and training/exercise.

BLOOMINGDALE MONTESSORI MONTESSORI SCHOOL
The Montessori school is located in Chicago’s Northwest side neighborhood, Whicker Park. Abandoned train trucks are located on the north side of the site, which the City of Chicago is planning to convert into a park similar to the New York City Highline. This park would become an important part of the school.
Montessori schools offer an independent and hands-on approach to education. The challenge was to create spaces to give children the freedom to explore and learn on their own. The Montessori method also emphasizes a connection to nature as a source of inspiration.

MIXED USE HIGH-RISE
MIXED USE HIGH-RISE
This mixed use high rise will be located west of Columbus Drive and north of Chicago River. The tower will consist of 70,000 m² office space and 24,000 m² hotel (300 keys). The biggest challenge in designing this mixed use high-rise is optimizing the views. The site is situated between the Chicago River and the NBC tower. The design intent is to take advantage of the beautiful views Chicago has to offer, Chicago skyline (west), Chicago River (south), and Lake Michigan (east). Because the north side of the site is close to the NBC tower, the proposed solutions are shaped in such a way that it minimizes the NBC tower views up to its height and then we again can take 360 degrees advantage of the city views.

The freestanding ED is located in Glenview, Illinois. This new healthcare facility consists
of five main components; building intake, emergency services, primary care treatment,
imaging, and laboratory. The new free standing urgent care will be 34,900 square feet
and it will house 6 universal treatment rooms, 1 exam/psych room, 1 exam/ENT/eye
room, 2 trauma/cardiac rooms and, full imaging and laboratory services. In addition this
facility will host a physician practice with 18 exam rooms.
This freestanding ED was designed keeping in mind the following objectives and goals.
• Create a facility that can serve the community faster and better in urgent care
services.
• Make a facility that it is easily accessible and operates 24/7 in order to give the
community access any time they need it.
• Efficient and effective staff flow within and between departments.
• Provide a facility that would offer the same care and services as if the patients
were in an in-hospital emergency room.
The building shape and locations is based on site views and site access.
The loading area is strategically located on the building’s east side; this makes for a
clear separation from the walk-in emergency entrance, which is located on the south
side of the building. This will keep the public emergency traffic separated from the
loading area.

The main inspiration that I got from the Atul Gawande’s book was on the infection
control topic. The chapters of the book on the infection control inspired me to design the
airborne infection isolation rooms. Out of the 16 inpatient rooms, two are airborne
infection isolation rooms.
PROJECT INTRODUCTION
The River Hospital is located in Alexandria Bay, New York. The new hospital is going to
replace the existing one at this location. This new healthcare facility consists of four
main components; physician practice, nursing services, procedural cell, and
logistic/support cell. The new River hospital is 46,500 square feet and it will house 16
inpatient rooms, 16 UCU/ED exam rooms, two operating rooms, full imaging and
physical therapy services. In addition this facility will host a physician practice with 12
exam rooms.
PROJECT GOALS
When designing a hospital, the goal is to design a functional building at the lowest cost
possible without compromising the services offered at the establishment. One of the
intentions when designing this building is to create a facility that will bring comfort to the
patient, their families and the staff. Also, we want to apply some of the concept(s) of the
lean design philosophy by creating an easy and functional flow in the building. Key
objectives are:
• Efficient internal patient flow within and between departments.
• Safe environment.
• Good access and simple circulation for outpatients and the public.
• Efficient and effective staff flow within and between departments.
• Comforting settings for patient, their families and the staff.
KEY SITE AND MEP PLANNING CONCEPTS
The building is situated on the site in a way that can take full advantage of the river
views from the inpatients rooms.
The loading dock is strategically located on the building’s east; this makes for a clear
separation from the emergency entrances, which is located on the west side of the
building. This will keep the emergency unit traffic separated from the loading dock area.
All MEP units for the building are located underground. The reason for this choice is the
topography of the site. All these units are adjacent to the loading dock which will give
easy access for future maintenance. The east side of the basement is open to the
outside to allow fresh air intake and exhaust.
