Our experience at a glance

Case Study – A380 FlapsSince the end of 2004 Atkins has been working on the Airbus A380 program. The Atkins team started working on the stress certification of the inboard flap of the A380 passenger version.

Subsequently, during the years 2005–2006, Atkins worked on the sizing of the freighter version of the A380, followed by the inboard flap redesign of the passenger version, which began in 2007.

For these projects Atkins’ contribution covered:

• Project management

• Design (CATIA v4)

• Structural analysis (FEM and FEA)

• Fatigue and damage tolerance analysis

• Certification reports / airworthiness

• Certification test support.

The project demonstrated Atkins’ capability in supporting aircraft design throughout the project life cycle.

Atkins provided design expertise on the A380 inboard flap.
