Notes for ZACHARIAH WIMBERLY:Zachariah W. Wimberly lived in White Oak Township of Wake County, NC. Zachariah spent his entire life in NorthCarolina. The two Zackariah's listed in the Georgia census are his son and grandson. Zachariah was a farmer andhad over 1,500 acres of land in North Carolina. Nancy, his daughter from his first wife, did not go to Texas withPleasant and his brothers and sisters. She appeared in the 1850 census of Wake County, NC as living withZachariah.

Notes for WARREN WIMBERLY:Warren Wimberly was killed when he was moving a large load of heavy rocks by ox cart. The dumppin that held the cart bed in place slipped out, dumping the load of heavy stones and Warren into aheap, crushing him to death.

Lee Wimberly, Sr. has a different version of his death. Lee said Warren was gored by an oxen andWarren had an arrow point lodged in his back and when the oxen nudged him, it resulted in hisdeath.

He enlisted in Wake County at the age of 18 years on May 2, 1861 for the duration of the war.He served in Company I of the 6th Regiment of the North Carolina Troops. Present or accounted foruntil captured at Rappahannock Station, Virginia on November 7, 1863. Confined at Camp Lookout,Maryland, until paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia where he wasreceived for exchange. Admitted to the hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

Notes for LEWIS WIMBERLY:At the time of his father's death, Lewis Wimberley had moved from North Carolina and was not available asadministrator of Zachariah's estate. Zacharhary Wimberley's Will was probated in March, 1886.

I have found the will for Lewis Wimberley. It is a hand written document dated March 16, 1888 which appears tohave been probated on August 15, 1888. The will gives a life estate to his wife, Rebecca (also spelled Rebecka)Ann with the residual going to his younger children, sons David L. Wimberley and Miroeui (?) R. Wimberley anddaughter Nancy S. P. Wimberley. To sons William Warren Wimberley, James S. Wimberley and daughter MaryBradshaw he gave $1.

There is no mention of Pleasant Wimberley, but I have a picture of Pleasant Wimberley with an indication that hewas brother to William Warren. Notes for PLEASANT WIMBERLY, SR.:Pleasant Wimberly left North Carolina at the age of 23 (1845) with the intention of going to the State of Texas buthe spent the first two years of his journey in Mississippi and Arkansas. He arrived at Brenham, Texas onDecember 25, 1847. In January of 1848, he married Amanda Jackson, daughter of Isaac Jackson. She was bornin Washington County, Texas near Washington-on-the Brazos. Her father was an Alcalde under the MexicanGovernment who died eight months before she was born.

In 1855, the Pleasant Wimberly family moved to Blanco County area of what was then Burnet County. He musthave moved from Blanco County to Hays County in 1873 because his name does not appear on Blanco Countytax rolls. He settled in the vicinity of the present day Wimberley, TX, which was named in his honor.

Notes for ISAAC JACKSON WIMBERLY:Oldest Man in Llano, Isaac Wimberley, DiesIsaac Jackson Wimberley, 98, died at his home in Liano after an illness of less than a month. Services were heldat 3pm on Wednesday at Buttery Funeral Home with Homer Rogers, minister of the Jehovah's Witnesses,officiating. Burial was in the Llano City Cemetery. The oldest living man in Llano was a former Indian Scout andthree times drove cattle up the Olde Chisolm Trail. He was born January 15, 1856 on a ranch near the communityof Wimberley, which was named for his father. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Pleasant Wimberley who founded thecommunity of Wimberley when they moved there from North Carolina. Issac moved to Llano 54 years ago. Mr.Wimberly had 192 living descendants including great grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters Mrs. MaeOwen and Mrs. Hattie Stoval of Llano and Mrs. Bettie Hardwick of Austin. Six sons, V. T. Wimberley of Llano,George P. Wimberley of Uvalde and A. J. Wimberley, Joe, John and Frank all of California and a sister Mrs. LydaWimberley Hughes of Wimberley.

I can give you the info you are looking for on my grandmother, Ida Jane Quinnie Wimberley. Her father was DavidE. Wimberley, b.12 Aug.1827 in Wake Co. NC, his father was Zachariah Wimberley, b. Wake Co., NC 1782 and

Wife was Quinney Vaughn, b. abt. 1790, d. 1837. They were married Nov. 12, 1812 in Wake Co.

David Wimberley's wife was Sarah Jane Culver. Ida Jane Quinnie was born 22 Oct. 1860, and she and JohnHolden were married 11/28/1889 in Hunt Co., Texas. I show Sarah Jane Culver was born in Tennessee,1/16/1826 and died on 7/23/1883. I presume she died in Denison, TX and was probably buried in CalvaryCemetery in Grayson Co., Denison, TX.

A lot of the records were burned in St. Patrick's Catholic Church where they were parishioners and the presentpriest isn't very helpful in trying to get the info we've asked for. I don't know much about David Wimberley otherthan he was my great-grandfather and he lived in his later years in Denison with grandmother Ida Jane QuinnieWimberley Holden and my grandfather John Holden.

I know when my father, William Paul Holden, Sr,. was about 2yrs old, his sister, Ida Katherine (My Aunt Kittye) was4 and set fire to my father's gown. David Wimberley saved his life by wrapping him in a blanket. Dad had somescarring under his chin and on his neck for the rest of his life, but it wasn't very noticeable. Servies will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in Dawn Baptist church, between Canyon and Hereford, with the Rev. CharlesDavenport officiating.

Mr. Wimberley was born near Voss. In 1919 he moved to Canyon, and in 1925 moved to Dawn. He helpedestablish, and served as a deacon, at Dawn Baptist church. He served 25 years on the Tierra Blanca SoilConservation board.

He married Ruby Smith in 1932 and they lived and farmed in Dawn for almost 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Ann Newell; a son, Ted Wimberley; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials in lieu of flowers to Dr. David Miller Scholarship for pre-medical studies at WestTexas A&M University Foundation, WTAMU Box 766 Canyon, TX, 79016-0001. The family will receive friends atHolly Funeral Home in Canyon from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Zachariah Wimberley

The family name of Wimberley is a Saxon name that belonged to a family from Saxony, who moved to England inthe fifteenth century. The name according to established historical records had undergone several changes fromthe original German Wynderlick.

The Wimberley family that settled in Llano County, Texas in early 1800 was descended from Zachariah Wimberleyfrom North Carolina. The paternal grandfather had seventeen children, twelve from his first wife who died at age39 soon after the birth of her last baby. Quinnie Mae Wimberley was raised by her brother Pleasant Wimberleyuntil her marriage to Jim Wilson. The second marriage of Zachariah produced five children. Zachariah owned alarge plantation. He received the land grant by having brought a group of families from England to settle in NorthCarolina.

Warren Wimberley, one of the older boys, had been the forerunner of the family which traveled by wagon fromNorth Carolina to Texas. Several rest stops were made on the journey, in Mississippi and Arkansas, and then inBrenham [Texas] which at that time was still Mexican territory. While staying there he met and married one of thetwin daughters of Joseph Jackson, the Alcalde (Mayor) of "Washington on the Brazos". This family had migratedfrom Tennessee and the Jacksons were prominent in early day politics. He was a member of the Austin Colony.

Pleasant Wimberley and his new bride Amanda moved to Llano County along with his younger brothers andsisters. while there he received a letter from his sister, who had married a young man from Arkansas. She toldhim that she was sick and would soon die and please come and get her daughter and raise her with his children;which he did. This niece, when grown, married a prominent rancher, Joe Smith and raised a fine family and mostof the grandchildren reside in the Llano area.

Warren Wimberley, Pleasant's brother had preceded the family to the Walnut community and was engaged inraising cattle and horses. The Walnut community is on the he Llano-Blanco line. Warren was active in fraternaland community action and became the Charter Tiler of Lodge #242, which was later moved to Llano town. Hisgrave marker bears the square and compass emblem. His death was tragic and untimely, having been gored byan oxen. It is said Uncle Warren had an arrow point lodged in his back and when the oxen nudged him, it resultedin his death.

Most of the sisters married ranchers. One married Gum Phillips, one James Wilson, one James Harrington andtheir son, David, was in the last engagement at Pack Saddle Mountain.

Pleasant Wimberley moved to a new area and engaged in milling, cutting cypress lumber, ginning cotton andraising some stock. The town, Wimberley, Texas bears his name today.

Pleasant Wimberley was a gentle and kind person. He was classified a lay preacher. He held a commission ofLieutenant in the house guard during the Civil War days. He had a great trust for people that was sometimesdisappointing. He sent a herd of cattle to Dodge City and never saw them again. But nevertheless whensomeone came that needed help, they got it. His son, Isaac Wimberley, moved to Uvalde first and then to Llano. Here he raised twelve of his fourteen children.Two died in infancy. These heirs of which one was my mother, lived and died for the most part here and theirdescendents are still here.

Albert Wimberley married Sarah Wimberley, his cousin and they had five children living in this and of this pioneerfamily. I am proud to say, I am one.

He was born on July 27, 1922, in New Braunfels, Texas, the son of Samuel andAlma Wimberley. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as by three older brothers, Roy, Richard, andElo Wimberley, and by his older sister, Gladys Schulle. Four siblings - Millie Rainey of Victoria, Mildred Vargasonof Bastrop, Otharine Jennings of Lewisville, and his younger brother Milton Wimberley, of Victoria, Texas, alongwith numerous nieces and nephews, survive him.

He is further survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Carlene Wimberley as well as two children and families.These are his son Samuel Wimberley and wife Michelle, of San Antonio, as well as his daughter Diana Comer andher husband Michael, of Kerrville. Other immediate family members include four grandchildren - Micah Comer,Matthew Comer, Brandon Wimberley, Taylor Wimberley, granddaughter-in-law Amber Comer, and nephew BernieLong Nelson.

Leon served in the United States Army during World War II, where he sustained serious injuries in the Battle ofOkinawa. After a lengthy recovery and an honorable discharge, he became interested in the new and growing fieldof electronics technology, for which he obtained extensive training. For more than 30 years, until his retirement, heworked as an electronics technician in San Antonio, Texas.

His true passion however, was for his spiritual life. This began in 1949 when questions about the purpose andmeaning of life prompted him to begin an intensive study of the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. On May 14, 1950,he was baptized in San Antonio, Texas, and during the years that followed until his death, he actively pursuedsharing his Bible-based hope and knowledge with others. In doing so, he served as an Elder in various CentralTexas congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses including San Antonio, Jourdanton, Kerrville, and Brady.

Generous with his resources, over the years more than 15 people in personal crisis were welcomed and giventemporary shelter in his home. Several elderly family members also lived with the Wimberley’s during their finaldays and years. During Texas hurricanes, Leon opened his home not only to family who fled the coast, but also toneighbors they brought with them. During one such storm the Wimberley’s had 17 people staying in their home for10 days. Leon often remarked that a person who was willing to give from the heart could never really be “taken.”

Leon was also known for his keen mind and determination. Because of this, he remained mentally active, alwaysseeking to expand his mind through new fields of interest. He was an avid reader, inventor, bridge player, andloved discussing science and technology. His greatest gift however, was his friendly smile, his sense of humor,and warm personality. He was genuinely interested in every person he met, and as a result people sensed that hetruly cared about them. He was truly one of a kind, and will be deeply missed.

Services will be held 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 15270Huebner Road, San Antonio, Texas. Paul Copeland, a Minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses and family friend, willofficiate.

Born July 18, 1922, in a tent inthe base of Slaughter Mountain in Tobyville, TX to Julia Turner Wimberly and Ira Andrew Wimberly. Wanda was alifelong resident of Marble Falls. She was the fifth of nine children and was preceded in death by her parents, hersiblings, two husbands, one infant child and one grandchild.

Survivors include her 4 children, Travis "Sonny" Jackson and wife Sue of Yellville, Ark., James "Henry" Jacksonand wife Jane of Marble Falls, Inez "Liz" Marx and husband Robert of Burnet, Donald Ray Jackson and wifeConnie of Marble Falls, Wanda Jean Walker and husband Eddie of Granite Shoals, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and scores of cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was very proud of her heritage and that her family had been in this area since the 1850s. She liked thingsclean and orderly and used to drive us all crazy taking our tea glasses to wash before we were through. She was acollector of everything and everything was a treasurer to her. She had a passion bordering on obsession forphotographs, greeting cards and Elvis. Wanda was known for her beautiful blue eyes and smile and a laugh thateveryone recognized and her generous heart. She loved people and storytelling and being the center of attention.She was feisty, stubborn, fiercely independent and extremely generous. She was a Republican and loved GeorgeW. Bush and wife Laura. She was very patriotic, the flag brought her to tears, and she was fiercely loyal to our

soldiers, past and present. Everywhere we went people fell in love with her and wanted to take her home. She wasa loving and devoted mother; her children were her finest accomplishment to her and she was very proud of usand thought there were no kids as good as hers.

She loved babies and small children and always wanted to talk and hold their hands. She never met a stranger,loved everything bright and shiny, and didn't like dull colors. She loved hummingbirds. Mama never thought ofherself as "old," and scoffed when we moved her into the senior citizen's apartments saying she didn't want to livewith all those old people! This was when she was 76. As much as she loved gifts, she hated for people to spendmoney on her. We will always remember her "love checks." Being a child of the Depression, she couldn't stand tothrow anything away and she hated wastefulness. She lived frugally. She didn't like spending money on herself butwanted to give money to others.

Visitation is Friday, July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday,July 11 at 10 a.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home with Bro. Max Copeland officiating. Interment will follow atMarble Falls City Cemetery.

I am told the family was in the Louisiana territory together for a reunion shortlyafter or near the end of the Civil War with his 4 or 5 brothers, one of which may have the first name of"Tollie".

My great grandfather's name was Thomas Richard Wimberly, originally from Texas. He ran away fromhome in his teens, became self-educated in the N.E. part of the country, returned to the mid-west,and settled in a small central Kansas town of Kinsley. He raised a family there while farming andrunning a general store in the pre-depression years and thru the depression. Thomas RichardWimberly and his wife Millie raised four sons and a daughter. You don't know how complicated getting married in a foreign country can be, believe me. Translation ofdocuments, authentication of documents, signatures, waiting periods, fees.... it was exhausting. The ceremonywas not much, the basic equivalent of a Justice of the Peace with two witnesses. We plan to have anotherwedding with my family on December 21, 2000. We met while I was working for my company and I was on abusiness trip. We met in a live music club/restaurant sort of place.

She is still in Brazil, we are awaiting the processing of her immigration paperwork at the American Consulate inRio de Janeiro. We have an appointment there on Thursday April 6th to finalize and verify everything. If it all is onorder, then she will be granted a "Conditional Residency Visa" and be allowed to travel to the U.S. We should bearrive in Austin on Sunday April 9th. This process is even more complicated than the marriage.

In the meantime she has continued to live with her grandmother and attend English classes (Yes, I speakPortuguese in case you were wondering).
