Problem

Sometimes membranes must be left

exposed for a period of time before being

covered by the exterior cladding. Exposed

membranes are susceptible to the

damaging effects of ultraviolet rays.

Solution

DELTA®-VENT SA resists the harmful effects

of ultraviolet better than any other mem-

brane. Some manufacturers may claim that

their membrane can be left exposed for up

to 6 months. As these graphs show, you

will see the reduction in performance as

the membranes from other manufacturers

are exposed.

What is the planned life of your exterior cladding? Will the membrane behind the cladding last as long?

the adhesion requirements. Be sure check

the test results of any membrane you specify.

DELTA®-VENT SA invests in and passes the

required tests and reports the results. Ask to

see the test results for any membrane you

specify and be sure to check the test date to

make sure it is still valid.

Problem

The minimum standard for adhesion to a

surface without primer is 26 N/mm. Some

membrane manufacturers promote the

adhesion of their products while not meet-

ing this minimum standard.

To insure membranes perform as required

it is important they are tested by a recog-

nized testing facility and that these tests

are current. Some tests require retesting

every year.

Some manufacturers either don’t pass or

don’t invest in the tests as they do not

report the results for their membranes or

they use outdated test results.

Some suppliers buy product from a

manufacturer in a different country and

put their name on it just like many house-

wrap suppliers. When you are not the

actual manufacturer it is hard to control

quality.

The National Air Barrier Association (NABA)

and Air Barrier Association of America

(ABAA) evaluate and test membranes.

Some membrane suppliers are not recog-

nized and approved by either association.

sure any membrane you

specify is at least recognized

by The National Air Barrier

Association (NABA).

Problems with the design, membrane selection and installation are one of the most costly problems in commercial construction today. Make sure you are designing the right systems with the right products for each building.

Problem

One of the benefits of fully adhered mem-

branes is that they eliminate the penetra-

tions that happen with mechanically fas-

tened systems. That leaves the seams or

edges as the remaining potential source of

problems..

Solution

DELTA®-VENT SA is the only membrane with

a self-adhering edge that eliminates the

problems with seams and edges not being

sealed properly. If you use any other mem-

brane be sure that the installer takes the time

to properly seal the edges.
