General Information:

School operations will continue with in-person instruction unless otherwise advised by the local health department or unless we are unable to have sufficient faculty and staff in person to maintain student safety and instructional integrity. All of our families MUST prepare for several possible scenarios during the upcoming school year.

Instruction:

All instruction and teacher interactions will occur during the normal school day from 7:50am through 2:45pm. Due to the varied nature of the demands placed on teachers, general instructional interactions with students via Google Classroom, email interactions, and phone conversations will not be provided outside of this above time.

Green- Full Instruction in School.

Orange- Synchronous instruction available for students who are not in attendance.

Red- Full Remote Instruction via Google Classroom and Google Meets/Zoom.

Green-Full In-School Instruction Details:

- All students in school every day.

- Lunchtime will be in the classrooms (per CDC guidance).

- Recess will take place in shifts using our entire property.

- No in-person after school activities/clubs until safety procedures are met.

- Classrooms have been reconfigured to comply with social distancing guidelines.

- When possible, teachers will take their students to areas where they can have class outside in a socially distant manner.

- Classroom windows will remain open.

- Masks will be removed for snack time and lunch.

- Students WILL NOT move for instruction; the teachers WILL ROTATE.

Orange- Synchronous instruction available for students who are not in attendance.

-Full remote learning at home for five full days of instruction by parent’s/guardian’s choice. Must notify the school by August 24th, 2020.

**Parents/Guardians choosing the option of full time remote learning at home MUST make that choice with the understanding that they must remain with this option until December 1st, 2020.

The following policies and procedures for Remote Learning will apply:

- Students must report online wearing their school uniform and prepared to work.

- Students will follow their school schedule 8:15 am-2:30pm.- Students must have a work area such as a table or desk. - Students should have their own electronic device. No cell phones or

Smart watches as a device. - Students CANNOT be eating during lesson times. Students can eat or

take a break during the appropriate lunchtime.- Students MUST attend Zoom. - Students MUST submit work at the appropriate time to receive a grade.

Red- Full Remote Instruction via Google Classroom and Google Meets/Zoom.

We will implement Distance Learning if:

- Suffolk County reaches 9% infection rate. Schools will move automatically to Distance Learning as per guidelines from the Governor.

- Suffolk County Department of Health finds it necessary for our school or the schools in our area of Suffolk County to be closed because of an outbreak.

- If the Superintendent of Schools of the Diocese of Rockville Centre and MSI Leadership directs our school or the entire systems of Catholic schools to close due to elevated health concerns.

Arrival for Grades K-8:School doors open at 7:50am for grades K-8.

**If your child is sick, YOU MUST KEEP THEM HOME.

Drop off Procedure: Vehicles enter through the Half Hollow Road parking lot entrance. Everyone in the vehicle MUST have a mask on. Students will have their temperature taken by a staff member before exiting their vehicle. If student’s temperature is below 100.0 F, the students wearing a mask, will then enter the middle doors of the school and proceed to their classrooms. Students will use the classroom hand sanitizer before walking into their classroom.

**If the student’s temperature is 100.0 F or higher, the student will not be allowed out of their vehicle and will be asked to go home immediately. Children with a temperature of 100.0 F MUST remain home until they have been fever free without medicine assistance for 24 hours.

Arrival of Buses in the AM: Buses will drop off students at the south door entrances that is parallel to Deer Park Avenue. Students will have their temperature taken by a staff member before entering the school. If student’s temperature is below 100.0 F, the students wearing a mask, will then enter the south doors of the school and proceed to their classrooms. Students will use the classroom hand sanitizer before walking into their classroom.

**If the student’s temperature is 100.0 F or higher, the student will be sent to the designed “isolation” room and the student’s parents/guardians will be called for immediate pick up. Children will wait in the “isolation” room until their parents/guardians arrive in a timely fashion.

**Children with a temperature of 100.0 F MUST remain home until they have been fever free without medicine assistance for 24 hours.

Arrival for Nursery and Pre-K Classes: School doors open at 8:30am.

**Late arrivals will have to go to the breezeway doors and ring the school buzzer. One adult will wait for a staff member to take the child’s temperature before the child can enter the building.

Lateness to School:

**A student is marked late if arrival time is at 8:10 or later.

- One adult wearing a mask with the student(s) must walk to the breezeway door entrance and ring the school buzzer.

- A staff member will take the student(s) temperature. If the temperature is below 100.0 F, the student who is wearing a mask can enter the school and proceed to their classroom.

Visitors to the School Procedure:** All visitors must call the Main Office from their vehicle before being allowed in the

building. - Visits to the school is limited to the pick up of a sick child.

- Visitors picking up a sick child will have their temperature taken and MUST wear a mask to enter the building.

- Essential items only such as lunch and eyeglasses can be dropped off. Parents must call the Main Office from their vehicle before coming to the Breezeway doors. All essential items must be labeled with the child’s name.

- If a child is picked up early for any reason, please DO NOT bring the child back to school until the next day or when your child is well enough to return.

Social Distancing in the Building:

Students will be organized into grade level classes. Student transitions will be very limited throughout the day. During transitions, all faculty and staff will wear face covering and maintain 6 feet distance between each other. Students will remain in their classrooms for learning in all subject areas and lunchtime. Hallway travel will occur in single file, spaced lines. Class lines will stay to the right side of each hallway traveled. When necessary, students who travel alone in the hallways (to visit the nurse’s office, for small group instruction, to main office) will maintain the use of social distancing guidelines, follow hallway travel signs and wear face coverings.

Movement in the Building:- Directional signs will be used to indicate which side of the hallway should be used for

traveling during the school day.

- Designated stairways will be assigned for either going up or down usage.

- ALL students, faculty and staff MUST wear face coverings when traveling in the hallways.

- Social distancing markers will be used throughout the school building to indicate 6 feet separation.

- CDC signs regarding face coverings, social distancing and hand washing will be placed throughout the school.

Bathrooms: - Scheduled times will be given to each class for usage.

- Face covering MUST be used at all times.

- Only two students allowed in at the same time.

- Student bathrooms will be disinfected frequently.

School Lunchtime and Recess:**NO HOT LUNCH will be offered until further notice.

- Students must bring lunch from home daily.

- Lunch will be in the classroom as per CDC guidance.

- Recess is an important part of each child’s school day and will take place weather permitting.

- A schedule has be created to allow the students to have outdoor recess with interaction only within their grade. No mixing of grades will take place.

- One grade will be allowed on the playground per day at recess.

Daily Building Cleaning:- Cleaning and sanitizing will take place daily following CDC guidelines.

- Bathrooms will be disinfected following CDC guidelines.

- Routine cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces within the school building throughout the day.

- Hand sanitizer will be available at each entrance to the building and at the entrance of each classroom.

Summer Uniforms:Starting in September, students can wear the summer uniform.

- Non essential uniform items such as ties/vests for all students WILL NOT be worn because they cannot be laundered.

- Face coverings.

Winter uniforms:- Date to start will be announced by the principal.

- Students can wear their gym uniform daily. Gym uniforms can be purchased at Flynn O’Hara. We no longer use Murphy’s Sport Shop.

- Face coverings.

- All uniform items MUST be washed regularly per the CDC.

Contact Tracing Plan:

- School Nurse will notify Suffolk County Department of Health and the New York State Department of Health immediately upon notification of a positive case in the school.

- All members of the same class including teachers and staff, will immediately be put in isolation and be required to quarantine for 14 days according to guidelines. Parents will be notified of this requirement and asked to pick up their children.

- Instruction will be provided remotely for that particular class. Further direction regarding other students and staff will come from the Department of Health.

- All faculty and staff members will cooperate fully with the Department of Health.

When There is a Confirmed Student Case in the School:

-Students or faculty/staff member will not be permitted to return to school until they have negative COVID-19 tests.

- Parent(s) will notify the school health office of a positive case in the family. All members of that household who attend school will be asked to quarantine for 14 days and participate in synchronous instruction from home.

- Child MUST provide documentation that they have tested negative after the 14 day quarantine in order to return to school.

When There is a Confirmed Faculty/Staff Case in the School:

**Should any employee have COVID-19 symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, we will follow the same protocols used for students.

- All members of the same class as the COVID-19 positive case will be put in isolation and be required to quarantine for 14 days according to guidelines.

- Distance learning will be immediately started for that period of time.

- If a teacher is COVID-19 positive but, does not have symptoms, that teacher may continue to teach from home. If the teacher becomes sick and is unable to work, the school will provide a substitute teacher.

- Teacher/Staff can ONLY return to school after quarantining for 14 days and with a negative COVID-19 test result.

Dismissal Procedure for Walkers K-8 Grades:** Dismissal begins at 2:45pm.

-Walkers will be dismissed at approximately 2:45pm by grade level.

- Walkers MUST wear face coverings at dismissal.

- All walkers will exit using the Half Hollow Road side doors.

-All walkers must go directly to their parents/guardians. No congregating.

Bus Dismissal for K-8 Grades: - Students who take the bus will be dismissed at approximately 2:50pm when the bus districts arrive.

- Students MUST wear face coverings at dismissal.

- Students will exit using the south door entrance and proceed to their bus immediately. No congregating.

- Parents/Guardians MUST take their child directly to their vehicle with no congregating.

Question 1: Is it okay for my family to travel out of town during the pandemic?

Answer: It is highly recommended that you do not travel out of town during the current pandemic. However, if there is an emergency, we encourage you to

become familiar and follow the current New York State travel restrictions. If you, your child(ren) or an extended family member of your household travels to another state or country, you will be asked to wait 14 days after returning home

before sending your child to school.

2) A reduction of other COVID-19 symptoms like coughing by 75%.

3) 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared.

4) A COVID-19 test comes back negative.

Parents/Guardians Assistance at Home:We want to remind everyone that the safety of our SSCM families and staff is the MOST important. The parents/guardians help is greatly appreciated and needed. Please do the following to make the start of the new school year run smoothly:

Prepare the child(ren) NOW by having him/her wear a face covering everyday.1) Do not send any child to school who is sick. 2) Keep additional face coverings in the child’s backpack. 3) Remember to launder cloth masks daily. 4) Talk to the child about the importance of: social distancing, proper hand washing for 20

seconds and keeping hands away from their eyes and nose.
