Addition and Subtraction Made Easy

The fun & easy way to learn math facts! Songs & play, along with games and interactive activities cater to all learning styles.

Adv. Leather and Tac This will be an advanced class where we will carve pictures or portraits into leather. We will also make headstalls and tie downs. This will involve cutting out patterns on leather, stamping a design, hand sewing and riveting the leather together. Other projects may include saddle bags, and leather garment sewing, if time permits.

Advanced Ballet Must have teacher approval

Advanced Guitar Students in this class should be enthused about playing the guitar and be on a regular practice schedule. Students will continue Contemporary Class Guitar, Book 1. Students will elaborate on sight reading, music theory, theory through scale and chording exercises and will also study bar chord forms. Guitar tabs will also be used as a form of writing/ear training. These skills will apply to all styles such as Classical, Spanish, Flamenco, Folk, Country, Blues, Jazz, Rock, etc. NOTE: Students must bring the following supplies to each class session: Folder (pee-chee style) acoustic or electric guitar, flat picks and Contemporary Class Guitar, Book 1.

Advanced Gymnastics Students will be working on mats, trampoline, balance beam, and flips to gain more advanced skill in gymnastics. *Teacher approval is required.

Advanced Horsemanship and Horse training

Learn advanced techniques of tack, riding, lunging, groundwork, problem solving, balance, safety,competition, and training. Some classes will include our new pony "Homelink Annie". *Students should possess a basic understanding of

Algebra John Saxon stated,"Algebra is not difficult; algebra is just different. Things that are different become familiar things only after they have been practiced for a long time." Missing from this very good quote is the word, "correctly". Quickly and aggressively eliminating any error pattern that may occur will be one of the main goals of the class; then the student has the best chance at being successful. My hope is that the students will enjoy math and have some fun along the way as they master algebra. Algebra is one of the most important subjects in school.

Algebra 2 This year we will be using Saxon "Algebra 2", expanding on what was learned in Algebra 1. John Saxon stated,"Algebra is not difficult; algebra is just different. Amazing Animals How do bees make honey? How do geckos walk up the wall? Come explore some amazing creatures - like turtles, snakes etc. Have fun learning about animals and their instincts - geography and art mixed in. Hope to have one field trip planned if there are enough interested.

American Girls Discover what life was like for girls through the historical fiction novel series "American Girls." We will discuss the history, traditions and influences of the day from girlhood to marriage; doing many activities as they did. A one-year class covering 4 units each semester. Includes reading book excerpts, crafts, foods and dances, as well as celebrations.

Art Apprentice This group will review elementary art basics and move on to creating marvelous compositions using an array of mediums.

Art Buffet In a pot; add paper mache, oils, drawing, watercolor, collage, block printing, mosaic and pastels. Season with basic art principles and a look at the masters. Taste and see that it is scrumptious and fun!

Astronomy Observational Astronomy - What's up? Wanna know? In this class we will study what is up in the night sky and where they are. We will study the Sun, Moon, and planets. We will discuss nebula, comets, asteroids, galaxies, and clusters. We will take a look at the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) which can be seen pretty regularly from here. Each student will get a set up star maps and learn how to use them to find things in the sky. Come expand your universe!

Basic Drawing Perhaps you would like to be able to draw more than a stick man. Maybe you draw well and need a challenge? This class takes you where you are and helps you grow by using techniques from the "Drawing From The Right Side of the Brain" and "Drawing With Young Adults and Children. Graphite, color pencils and inks will be our mediums.

Basic Electricity Did you know that it only takes 1 volt at 1/4 amp to kill you? Come learn how Electricity is made and how to work with it safely. Through hands on instruction you will learn basic home wiring, how to install a 3 way light switch and how to change out a light fixture.

Basic Kid Computer Come and learn the ins and outs of the computer. You will learn how to operate the computer so you can do everything from playing games to running programs!

Beg. Ballet & Ballet A This ballet class is for students with some dance experience, andfor older students with no experience who want to give ballet a try. Students will learn beginning classical ballet technique and grace. This is a year long class with a performance in the spring. . Note: Girls should wear a black or dark leotard and pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a bun. Dance skirts may be worn if desired. Boys should wear black stretch pants and a white fitted tee-shirt and black or white ballet shoes.

Beg. Leather Working This will be an introductory class where students learn how to carve and stamp leather. Some of the projects will include a coaster, wallet, check book and dog collar, if time permits. Students will learn how to use stamps and other tools, as well as use dyes and stains related to the leather carving craft.

Guitar tabs will also be used as a form of writing/ear training. Bible Literacy In this class, you will get a tour of the whole Bible. You will learn about the different literary styles and the various books that make up the Bible. Boys Amazing Action Sculpy Build your own sculpy forts, castles, and armies. We may even build some horses, knights, and possibly a chess set. Learn how with this creative class.

Boys Weights Program development will rely heavily on the students previous practical and theoretical experience with resistance exercise modalities and theories. A closer critical and more refined examination of the development and practice of exercise technique movement patterns. Two to three days participation requested.

Card Memories and Scrap booking Fun

This class will focus on different card styles; musical, 3 dimensional, cut lattice, pop-ups and many other techniques. We will also learn scrap booking with embossing, photo cropping, page layout design and much more.

Character First Come learn about attentiveness, obedience, generosity, truthfulness and much more through fun stories and songs

Castles & Gladiators Begin this semester with the clashing of swords in the arena of Rome's great coliseum. Discover who the Gladiators were, how they lived, why they fought, and how they died. End the semester inside the walls of castles. What were the weapons used to defend these magnificent structures? How were armies

Chess Improve your chess skills or learn to play. Each class session offers instruction in strategy and tactics, as well as providing time for play and practice. Information about area scholastic chess tournaments will be provided through the chess class.

Choir In Choir you will have a wonderful time learning the basics of voice and music, and developing your musical ear through harmony. We will sing music that will challenge and motivate you, and help you to improve your voice range as you have fun singing with others your age.

Claymation Calling all movie buffs! Want to direct your own Chicken Run adventure? You create brand new clay characters and stop action photography will do the rest. Lights! Camera! Action! You!

Co-Ed PE We will learn about basic individual and team sports and have plenty of fun and friendly competition as we play what we learn! We will learn good sportsmanship and the rules of games. We will learn about cardiovascular endurance, muscular flexibility, and developing long-life exercise goals.

Coat of Arms Come learn the various insignia that are used in building a family coat of arms along with the messages in their color and designs as each student takes opportunity to build a crest for his own family.

Color Explosion This class zeros in on color as we create on mini to over sized canvas in watercolor, oil, acrylic and pastel. Our inspiration will come from the works of contemporary artists. *Previous art classes are advised.

Computer Lab Come join us in the computer lab for some fun.

Contemporary Lit and Writing This is an academic track class for which students will earn a full English credit. Weekly homework includes reading, writing, projects and research. The course will focus on contemporary writers from 1900 to the present day. Students will discover the exciting world of literature and how it shaped our country's history, customs, and traditions. Through class discussion, lectures, group and individual projects, films and classic documentaries, students will gain a rich understanding of the beauty of literature and writing, as well as a deeper grasp on their own reaction to this amazing body of work.

Crafty Kids This class will have fun and easy crafts for your younger child. Join us as we make zoo tube animals and foam bug houses to pirate hats and treasure chests! We will use clay, dough, paper, glue, crayon and finger paints.

Crafty Visions Join us for all new crafts projects. Some choices will be stained glass box, nature prints, star gazers, fabric covered baskets, floral wreaths and much, much more.

Creative Movement This class combines music and movement to enrich children's motor skills while developing creativity and imagination. Children will learn basic pre-ballet and improvisation through exploring rhythm, shapes and patterns. This is a year long class with a performance in the spring. Note: No special shoes are required. Children should wear clothes that allow freedom of movement. Dance attire may be worn if desired.

Creative Writing (Hall, K-1) This is a fun class where your young children learn letter shapes, letter sounds, and letter blends. We do this through activities such as finger plays, songs, and art projects. We work on those basic motor skills needed for later writing. A daily journal is strongly suggested.

Creative Writing (Hall, 9-12) This class is for the writer who loves to write as well as the writer who is unsure or fearful. Fun and stimulating exercises help get the creative juices flowing and guided practice nails the grammar. This is your chance to share your talent and see what your peers are writing. Enjoy a fun, relaxed atmosphere where you can test your writing skill and improve in all areas of writing. Some homework is required, including a daily journal. Academic credit can be given upon completion of assignments and permission from both teacher and consultant.

Creative Writing (Hall, 6-8) This is the class for kids who may be afraid of writing or think they don't like to write. A very relaxed approach that encourages creative thinking and results in writing for fun. All writers and potential writers welcome. Come join us! A daily journal is required.

Critical Thinking (Grosser, 4-5) Thinking critically can be challenging but is important. Through the use of manipulative's, games, group banter, and workbook pages we will develop this skill. Practice makes better!!!

Critical Thinking (Kristovich, 2-5) Critical Thinkers score higher on standardized tests. Through the fun Adventures of Dr. Doolittle, students will learn critical thinking/reasoning skills and how to apply them to anything they read. Students will also learn to identify story elements such as plot and theme. Second semester will focus on a new book.

Curious Naturalist Let's go exploring! This class will be a hands-on view of our world. We will be studying forest animals, plants and trees and how the seasons affect them. Why do birds migrate and what do the birds that stay do through the cold winter? How do animals such as deer and squirrels stay warm when it's way below zero?

The multitude of animals and creatures in a tiny pond will fascinate your student and hopefully pique their interest in science and the world around them.

Current World Problems (CWP) In this class students will explore current world problems and the effect those problems have on society today and in the future.

Dance & Drill Every year this dance team creates fresh, original routines to clean, contemporary music mixing ballet, pop and jazz techniques. We entertain at Home Link's game night and end of the year fair. This year we will go to D.P. elementary schools and perform for their Veterans Day programs. We also hope to provide entertainment during half-time at a high school basketball game. In addition to gaining dance experience, teammates grow in leadership skills by assuming responsibilities that contribute to the success of the team. No dance experience is necessary, however crucial excellent attendance is!

Digital Photography Sure, you want to take pictures of your friends and on vacation...but enough of cutting off their foreheads or having the lake water tilting to the left! Learn what goes into a good photo: composition, color, lighting, patterns and more. Lean how to see the usual in an unusual way. Learn how to use Adobe Photo shop to enhance what you've taken. *Bring your own camera (a limited number of school cameras may be available).

Discovering Dinosaurs Come discover a life and time that existed millions of years ago. Learn about fossils, archeology, dinosaur bones and what archaeologists have learned from their most recent findings. we will explore what dinosaurs would eat, how they would hunt and how they survived. You can create a diorama, mobile or mural to display your knowledge of these amazing creatures and their amazing lives.

Down Home Favorites (2 hr) NEW RECIPES this year for traditional, great tasting, everyday dinners.

Drama 1 This is a non-performance class. It is designed for the purpose of in class opportunity for those who just want to have fun without the commitment to a performance. Using a wide range of scripts, monologues, drama games,vocal exercises and skits to build up your skills and confidence.

Drama II From classics to fairy tales using drama, games, monologues, class exercises and script reading for in-class experience. There will be a production each semester. My hope is for all to increase their skills at their level of experience; however, I expect commitment; responsibility; team effort and extra hours of rehearsal time from you in this class. You will audition for a part and be involved in sets, back stage help, and costume assistance. This is a year-long class; class time equals two periods.

Dramatic Puppetry Come learn the art of puppetry with Muppet sized puppets! Make a puppet come alive with dramatic expression. We will be constructing some large (3-FT Tall!) puppets. We will put a show together and do a live performance!

Early American History Through historical and biographical easy readers students will learn about important people and events in early American history. Students will also complete a project for each book.

Earth Science This Earth Science class will concentrate on the Chemistry of the earth, minerals, and the three kinds of rocks, the rock cycle, ores and fuels, the atmosphere, movements of the earth's crust, ground water, glaciers, earthquakes and volcanoes.

Easy Essays/Writing Lab Come write in! In this class we will cover essay writing basics; from brainstorming and research to editing and source documentation. We will spend time each class period working on writing assignments from other classes. I will have worthwhile projects available for students who don't have any other assignments. There will be a homework option for those who want to continue this instruction through the week.

Elementary Dance & Drill Flags, ribbons and poms, basic pop, ballet, drill and jazz steps, loud, fast and fun music, a gym full of high energy girls; mix it

all together and you've got yourself Home Link's elementary dance team! Because the girls will perform a half time show at Home Link's Game Night, excellent attendance is a must! A pair of gym shoes is the only thing she will need for class and performance.

Experiencing Science Come join us as we explore the world of science through fun hands on projects and experiments.

Explorations in Health Come and explore the systems of our bodies. Lets learn and discuss how and why our bodies work the way they do. We will study Germs, Dental Heath, the Circulatory system, the Respiratory system, & the Digestive system. *There will be hands-on activities, dissection activities and some take home work.

Eye Candy You eat with your eyes first...in this class we will explore simple dishes with elaborate presentation possibilities.

Fiddle 1 Students will learn to backup, improvise and fiddle a variety of tunes in the American folk art tradition. This is a play by ear form of music. Students will be taught by ear as well as tab and notation. They will be able to fiddle from day 1! Classes will be taught at a beginning level. *Students need to have a violin and be willing to practice at home.

Fiddle 2 For the student with previous fiddle experience. Students will learn to backup, improvise and fiddle a variety of tunes in the American folk art tradition. This is a play by ear form of music. Students will be taught by ear as well as tab and notation. Classes will be taught at an intermediate level.*Students need to have a violin and be willing to practice at home.

First Aid (Certified) First-Aid taught by a certified para-medic. Pass this class and you'll receive your first aid certification!

French 2 Must have taken previous French class.

Fun w/Word Processing While doing fun projects, we will learn to change fonts and font colors, insert pictures and word art, add borders, watermarks and much more. Projects will include acrostics, cards and more. We will also learn how to draw pictures in MS Paint and use them in our projects.

Fun with Geography Learning Geography is fun when you combine songs, bingo, puzzles and games. Younger grades (K-2nd) will learn all 50 states and capitals, while 3rd and 4th will add the state flower, bird, and state nickname. All this, and having fun with your

Game Hour If your child needs an active break from their daily routine, look no further. Join us as we play active games that will get them moving. We will play some familiar games as well as being introduced to new ones. When in Clayton we will use the new horizontal climbing wall. This is a run around, burn energy, get the heart pumping class. *Tennis shoes required in order to participate in this class!

Games in the Hall Come for fun playing a variety of board games! Yes, learning can take place with games!

Gemstones & Geology We will work on gemstones, make jewelry, carve stones, and learn about faceting.

Girls Adv. Weights *Recommended for those who have had the basic course or have at least six months or more resistance training experience. Program development will rely heavily on the students previous practical and theoretical experience with resistance exercise modalities and theories. A closer critical and more refined examination of the development and practice of exercise technique movement patterns. Free weight resistance will be provided by both Olympic and standard equipment. Two to three days participation would be just dandy for this class.

Girls Beg. Weights Basic strength and conditioning; recommended for those who have less than three months resistance training experience. An introduction into resistance training, theory and practice. The emphasis will be on the development of correct exercise technique movement patterns. Free weight resistance will be provided by both Olympic and standard equipment.

Girls of Many Lands Based on a historical fiction series starting in England in the 1500's and ending in India 1939. We'll venture into the history of the day seeing how society and war influenced the choices and circumstances girls struggled with. Includes reading book excerpts, crafts, foods, and film clips. Shakespearean theater, danger in castles, River dance...it's a great class. Designed as a one-year class with each semester covering 4 novels. Older grade children are welcome to enroll if there is space.

Great Books/Composition In this class we will be reading, discussing, and writing about major classics from World, American, and British Literature. My desire is to encourage a love for reading and an increased understanding of the novels, poetry, and short stories that have influenced western civilization. We will learn CLEP terminology and practice answering CLEP style questions.***An English credit will be given for students who complete

Guitar Jam This is a class for the guitar enthusiast, and students should have 2+ years of experience as they will apply all skills learned in previous classes. Students will focus on improvisational techniques using chord-scale relationships and will get into ear training through the use of radio songs, blues 1,4,5 progressions, jazz 2,5,1 progressions and rock progressions. Guitar tablature will be used for writing. Skills achieved in this class will apply to all styles. Because this is a spontaneous class, no books are necessary. Students will trade solos so they should come with a creative attitude and eagerness to play.Students must bring the following supplies to each class session:Folder (pee-chee style), acoustic or electric guitar, and flat picks.

Gym/Co-ed PE In this class students will have the opportunity to learn sportsmanship, physical activity, team-playing as well as archery, tennis, volleyball, soccer and more. This will include the New President's Challenge Physical Activity and Fitness Program.

Gymnastics In this class you will learn basic skills on floor mats and balance beam. You will also learn basic mini-trampoline work as well. At the teacher's discretion students will also learn intermediate skills.

History through Architecture Buildings are a reflection of the society that builds them. We will look at the classical architecture of the Greeks and Romans, the changing design and function of the castle, some of the highlights of design in Neoclassical Europe, and of modern architecture. This class will include making models of buildings.

History through the Cross hairs Military history was once the main focus of history classes, because if nothing else, wars tend to shake things up. Trace the development of weapons and strategies from the ancient world to modern times. Kid tested and kid approved!

Horsemanship Do you love horses? Come join us whether you have a horse or not. We will learn all about horses, tack, riding, lunging, groundwork, problem solving, balance, safety and competition. Some classes will include our new pony "Homelink Annie".

How Would You Survive In... Journey through time reliving eight cultures from Ancient Egypt to the American West. In studying how a culture develops their beliefs to survive, you will learn plenty of unusual facts. See how they handled everything from toothaches to tombs. Experience a medieval feast and Viking sword fight. This is a one-year class featuring four cultures each semester.

Int. Ballet B and Advanced This is a continuation of intermediate and advanced ballet technique. Students enrolling in the advanced level must attend three classes per week to be considered for the pointe class. This is a year long class that meets 2-3x per week with a performance in the spring. Int. Leather Working This will be an extension of the introductory class where students will sharpen their skills. Some of the projects will include, a belt and CD case. These projects will be more time consuming and more detailed. More projects will be added if time permits.

Intermediate Ballet A This is a continuation of classical ballet technique at an intermediate level. Students will continue to build on their technique and grace learned from both beginning and intermediate levels. This is a year long class that meets 2x per week with a performance in the spring. Intermediate Latin Building upon the foundation laid in beginning Latin, this course continues the study of Latin through recitation, vocabulary, grammar, derivatives, conversational phrases and Latin sayings. It also includes lots of review, enrichment activities, songs and games which deepen the enjoyment of learning the Latin language. *Students must have completed the Home-Link Latin I (beginning) course or have special teacher permission to join this class.

Intro to Reading Fun This class is all hands-on activities for the beginning reader or those who need a boost in their outlook on reading. We may be doing musical word chair, or build a word race. It's so fun, some students don't even realize how much they are learning, yet they learn to love reading!

Irish Dance 1 Classes are designed for new beginners who have never experienced Irish dancing. We will learn the very basic moves and terminology for traditional Irish step dancing, including the beginners' reel and slip jig, as well as light jig and single jig, if time permits. Journey Inside the Computer How do computers and the Internet actually work? We will learn ,in depth, about microprocessors; how they are made and how they work. We'll learn about binary code, transistors and how

Jr. Dance & Drill This young team has a big year ahead of them. In November we will perform a patriotic number as a part of the Veterans' Day Programs at Deer Parks two elementary schools. In January we entertain at Home Link Game Night and then at the end of the school year we will "wow-em" at Home Link Fair. The teammates will blend pop, ballet and jazz techniques to fast moving music. Flags, ribbons and poms will add visual effects. Join us! No experience is needed, however excellent attendance is a must.

Jr. Rodeo Come have fun and learn to rope,tie goats, barrel race, pole bend and more. We will also study the history of rodeo and the Cowboy Code.

K-1 Trac K-1 Track: Students stay with one teacher during this 2-hour class. Come for hands-on fun and learning. We do it all! Outdoor play, science, math, pre-reading, art with a purpose and more!

K-nex This is a fun class where you can explore your creativity through building with K-Nex and other materials.

Keyboarding In this class, you will learn keyboarding skills. We will primarily use MAVIS BEACON TEACHES TYPING.

Kiddie Music/Story Hour Your child's two favorite pastimes, singing and stories, come together in an hour fitted with music, motion, and tales. One group of children will be experiencing the building blocks of music through song, instruments, and games. Another group will be stretching their imagination through the art of story telling. On the half-hour the groups will switch. Come join us for an hour filled with fun.

Kitchen Basics Come to this class and learn all the basics you need to know to become a great cook. We will learn how to measure liquids and solids, how to use the different kitchen tools and even cook up a great treat now and then.

Kitchen Chemistry This will be a fun class cooking up some experiments in the kitchen.

Language Arts Tutorial Do you have a student that has not mastered vital reading or language arts skills? We have a wonderful class that starts with the building blocks of grammar, writing a basic sentence, reading, comprehension, deciphering important information and note taking geared towards each grade level, to help build the mastery that is sometimes missed. We will use activities, games, exercises and extra explanation that will help language art skills become more clear and achievable for every student. Enrollment is limited. This is a year long class.

Learn with Sculpy Students will learn about new things and create them out of Sculpy. For example, they may learn all the parts to an Ant and then make one Sculpy is a clay product that hardens in the oven.

Leather Crafts Learn the basics of leather crafts and make fun projects like tee pee coin banks, bookmarks, wrist bracelets and more

In this class we'll discuss elements of all of these, as well as others, and how they are interconnected. Learn how we affect our environment, both positively and negatively and how to coexist with nature.We hope to schedule a couple of field trips to experience nature firsthand. Some reading and research will be asked of the student to share in the classroom.

Nature Journal Make your own nature journal then join the class for walks and outings to learn science, nature drawing, poetry and prose writing to fill your journal with the stuff of the seasons.

Newspaper What is happening within the walls of our two buildings? Have you ever wanted to learn more about a specific class? Maybe you want to share your favorite author? Come and work on a school newspaper and learn to take pictures and write stories your friends won't want to miss. You will learn the basics of Photo shop and Pagemaker.

Observational Astronomy What's up? Wanna know? In this class we will study what is up in the night sky and where they are. We will study the Sun, Moon, and planets. We will discuss nebula, comets, asteroids, galaxies, and clusters. We will take a look at the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis), which can be seen pretty regularly, from here. Each student will get a set up star maps and learn how to use them to find things in the sky. Come expand your universe!

On Trial Learn about our government and the criminal justice system. We will role play mock trials and engage in group discussion as well as work out of a workbook.

Oriental Cooking (2hr) From Beijing to Bangkok the mysterious lands of the Far East feature some of the worlds most exotic, intriguing, and exciting cuisines. Come explore the fascinating cookery of this region, with its emphasis on fresh ingredients, bold seasonings and attractive presentation.

Photography Sure, you want to take pictures of your friends and on vacation...but enough of cutting off their foreheads or having the lake water tilting to the left! Learn what goes into a good photo: composition, color, lighting, patterns and more. Lean how to see the usual in an unusual way. Learn how to use Adobe Photo shop to enhance what you've taken. *Bring your own camera (a limited number of school cameras may be available).

Physical Education We will learn good sportsmanship; rules of the game(s). We will learn about cardiovascular endurance and muscular flexibility. We will enhance exercise skills and overall development of motor movements and develop exercise goals.

Piano This class is for beginning and early grade piano students. We will work on learning to read music, listening skills, piano technique, rhythm, and theory (for the older students). *Each student may progress at his or her own pace, and needs to have a piano or keyboard to practice at home and be committed to consistent practice. Students must be in 2nd grade or older.

Pilate's/Yoga This class is geared toward anyone looking for more than just "relaxation" out of their practice. It offers easy to difficult sessions developing greater strength, clarity of mind, and confidence. Stretching and balance that can provide stability and endurance.

Pirates Come sail the seas with some of the most notorious pirates in history! Learn to navigate using your own star charts and homemade compass. Discover the true life of pirates on board ships, sailing and plundering. Build your own pirate ship, sword, and treasure map. Enjoy a visit by Pirate Jack and his first mate as they teach you how to fight with swords. Join our crew for a few months of piratical fun and adventure.

Pointe This is a beginning pointe class for advanced students. The first half of the semester will focus on pre-pointe work developing the necessary strength for the technique. Once students have demonstrated sufficient progress we will begin pointe technique in class. Pottery (Beg/Intermediate) This year-long class is designed to introduce the older first-time clay student to the art of hand-building pieces to create both functional and decorative pottery. This class is also for the experienced student who wishes to expand on what they have learned in previous pottery classes. The intermediate student is expected to be able to work independently and with attention to detail, with a goal of producing more refined and interesting pieces. All students in this class will eventually be introduced to wheel throwing, with intermediate students being encouraged to further explore and improve wheel throwing techniques with freedom to combine wheel and hand-built pieces together.

Pottery (Beginning) This class introduces the student to making fun and functional three-dimensional art clay pieces using mostly hand built techniques. Students will learn to form pinch pots, coils and slabs to make bowls, cups, boxes, vases and more. Class will also cover glazing and kiln firing processes. Introduction to wheel throwing possible towards the end of the semester. This class is geared to the first time pottery student. Those students who have taken this class before may take it again but must be able to work independently with some guidance from instructor. This class is offered each semester with a firm class limit of 8.*Needed: One parent volunteer for this class, for the semester. Please contact instructor for more information.

Power Point If you're thinking about college, you need this class! Learn how to make exciting multimedia presentations. We will use information and pictures from the Internet, learn how to change slide designs and add fun text animations and slide transitions. We'll cap it off with presentations to the class.

Power Volley Ball This class is for the student who has previous volleyball experience. It will offer review and practice in passing, setting, hitting, serving, rotations, positions, blocking, offense and defense. Ball handling is essential to developing these skills and time will be spent doing this. This is a co-ed and competition class.

Pre-Algebra We will use the Algebra 1/2 text by Saxon and supplementary materials that will add variety, enrichment, and drill. By successfully completing the class your student will be prepared for Algebra I and will have a good background of basic math skills. Work habits including accuracy, punctuality and industry will be emphasized. *Homework will be assigned. 8th grade allowed with teacher approval.

Prehistoric Pals Travel back in time to the land of dinosaurs each week! What did they eat? Where did they sleep? How did they live? Discover the gentle giants and the ferocious meat eaters as we uncover the

Racing Robots Learn what Robots are, how they work and where they are used today. We will also build robots in class then race them through an obstacle course!

RC Aeronautics Learn about flight through radio?controlled aircraft. We will fly both fixed wing airplanes and helicopters. Students will learn the principles of flight and put them into practice by flying ra-dio?controlled craft. The helicopters will be flown indoor dur-ing inclement weather and the fixed wing planes will be flown outdoor as weather permits.

Read and Do We will read and play with various fun books. After reading we will explore some aspect of the story through various mediums including art, music, food, and play. Do your kids love books or being read to? They will love this class and will learn lots too.

Reading/Spelling This class is individualized for each student. I find their weak link and work to strengthen that area. It might be in reading comprehension, test taking, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, or any other area of language arts. I also present several vocabulary lessons, as I hope to help the student increase their knowledge of words. A portion of time is also spent on oral reading, a very important skill needed in today's world.Spell well. Write well. Think well. Read as you were meant to read. English is written in an alphabetic Code, and this Code for English is used to encode auditory speech and inner speech (i.e., thought). Most of us are not aware that English is well structured and logical. In fact, print, is indeed, recorded speech. Therefore, to become a competent reader, speller, writer and thinker it is essential to know the logical spelling of words. In this class I encourage spellers to stop spelling from memory, and instead approach each word logically, calling to mind the 29 rules and 70 spellings of the 44 speech sounds. We will learn all the rules and spelling of the sounds, as well as consider Greek and Latin roots, prefixes and suffixes.

Redwall Uncover the secrets of "Redwall Abbey" and its forest inhabitants! This class is based upon the "Redwall" book series by Brian Jacques. We will be creating replicas and maps of the Abbey and Mossflower Woods, and examine the character traits Jacques gives different animals. In addition, we will put together skits and portrait our favorite characters, and try some of the tasty foods mentioned in the world of Redwall. Each student will also be writing his or her own Redwall Adventure.

Retro Crafts Learn to make cool crafts from the 70'S. Fabric covered baskets, CD holders, diva frames, felt purses, ribbon pillows, beaded

This course will meet for one hour weekly and will cover the following areas:Methods of Science, Live sciences including basic genetics and human systems, Physical sciences including: Astronomy, Geology, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics and Chemistry

ScienceArts Students mix colors to create Rainbow Light Catchers, investi-gate energy with Windup Whirligigs, and learn about bird be-havior with Nest Test Baskets and more as they explore the nat-ural connection between science and art. Science Lab (Cody) What is the scientific method? Learn how to apply this universally accepted, standardized approach of exploring the world around us. Science/Health (Krug-Hanson, 6-8) Join us as we take brief looks into different aspects of science and health. We will touch on weather, our earth, animals, plants, the environment, etc. We will also take a look at our health. We will go over nutrition and how it affects our bodies as well as the importance of hygiene and dental care.

Science/Health Lab (Krug-Hanson, 9-12) In this Lab class we will discuss and explore the systems of the human body. We will learn why our bodies function like they do and what we can do to improve them. We will explore other animals and their systems and look at how they resemble our bodies as well as how they differ.***This class will give you your health credit as well as fulfill your science lab requirement. There will be some work outside of class as well as several hands on dissections.

Senior Project - Independent Study This independent study class will fulfill a students Senior Project requirement. Students will receive one-on-one guidance in the creation and completion of an individual senior project. Students will receive help building job-search skills, interview skills and filling out job application skills. Students will develop an understanding themselves and their skills/abilities and how to relate that information to a potential career. Students will receive guidance and help with the community service piece of their senior project. Graduating seniors will present their projects in the spring. Students will meet individually with Mr. Jennings on a schedule to be determined for each student.

Sewing Hand sewing with different stitches. Fun crafts that involves sewing, learn to use the sewing machine, patterns and cut fabrics. Make some fun projects and even some gifts for Mom and Dad.

Show Choir Are you ready to belt out a tune? Come learn the fundamentals of singing and dancing the show tunes in this fast paced, up lifting class.

Sign Language Intermediate *Must have taken Sign Language A and B prior to class enrollment. A heavy emphasis on American Sign Language word order. Many times no voicing is used and student must be able to understand the instructor with only the use of "signs." Conversational Sign Language book is used in this class and can be checked out through the Home-Link library. Tools used for teaching: books, videos, music, poetry, games and music.

Sign Language A This is a beginning American Sign Language course with prior signing experience needed. We will learn 500 vocabulary words and basic sentences. We will watch some videos, sign to music and poetry and have some signing games. Joy of Signing is a book used in this class, and can be checked out through the Home-Link library.

Sign Language B *Must have taken Sign Language A or have had one year of ASL sign language before being enrolled in this class. This class focuses on ASL sentence word order. Use of videos, games, music and poetry are tools for learning. Conversational Sign Language is a book used in this class and can be checked out through the Home-Link library.

Spanish (Beginning) (4-5) We will build up a basic Spanish vocabulary and learn to speak, read, and write simple sentences using games, songs, art and writing activities.

Spanish (Intermediate) (4-5) Learn vocabulary, reading and writing of the Spanish language. You will learn enough understanding of Spanish to be able to work with any program for home schoolers with out difficulty.

Spanish (Intermediate) (9-12) Learn vocabulary, reading and writing of the Spanish language. Emphasis on verb conjugation.

Spelling Is your student struggling with basic spelling rules and tech-niques? We will have lots of fun with spelling rules, games, memorization techniques and high frequency words. Your stu-dent will gain confidence in their writing and fluency in their reading if they are strong spellers. This class will have some home assignments.

Sr. Project/Career Pathways A must for every senior whose goal it is to achieve a high school diploma. This class is given as part of the Senior Project requirement. Students will receive one-on-one as well as group guidance in the creation and completion of an individual senior project. This includes interactive, dynamic “workshops” on job-

Examples of components of the senior projects include 4-H involvement, community service, volunteering, scouting, mentoring, tutoring, sports camps and leadership activities. Graduating seniors will present their projects in the spring. Seniors also have the option of meeting independently with an advisor if this class does not fit into their schedule. Stained Glass Working with these beautiful pieces of colored glass will yield items suitable for yard ornaments, gifts, home decor; we will learn the copper foil procedures for all of our completed projects.

Star Writers Would you like to be a great writer? Learn to use the six traits of good writing. Fun, out-of-the box activities will help your writing skills shine.

Storybook Theatre A beginning theater class based on the classic stories such as "Sleeping Beauty," "Peter Pan," and various well known fables. The class gives children the opportunity to act out the stories, learn voice techniques and stage positioning while having the fun and imaginative use of costumes and props.

Strategy Games Battleship, Stratego, Settlers of Catan. Come use your brain-power to smite your opponent.

Strength Training Recommended for those who have had the basic course or have at least six months or more resistance training experience. Program development will rely heavily on the students previous practical and theoretical experience with resistance exercise modalities and theories. A closer critical and more refined examination of the development and practice of exercise technique movement patterns. Two to three days participation is requested.

Study Skills This "prep" class will be a fast paced look at the skills needed to succeed in high school and beyond. We will cover learning styles, time management, note taking, outlining, test taking, and much more. There will be hands on activities and games.

Survey of Mathematics This course will provide experiences in various topics of mathematics. No prerequisites are required. Some topics will be core and some are just for fun! Feel free to bring all your math questions to class.

Taekwon Do Modern Taekwon Do was developed from a two-thousand year old Martial Art of Korea. It emphasizes aerial and ground based kicks for both defense and offense. Self discipline, focus, respect of others and self is a central learning theme.Class Learning Statement: Each student will learn basic Taekwon Do techniques and skills. They will learn from flexibility, strengthening, and focus drills. They will not only learn the kicks, punches, strikes and blocks of this traditional style of martial art, but also the traditional values of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit. Technology & Amateur Radio Explore modern technology through robotics, amateur radio,and satellite communications. We will build Parallax Robots and program them for a variety of tasks. We will use amateur radio

Textile Art This class will encompass both textile arts and jewelry. Come and spin or weave, or take a jewelry class. Students are welcome one or both hours.

Vet Science (Large Animal) Come study the skeletal systems and common diseases of sheep, cattle and horses. Take a behind the scenes tour of a vet clinic and cattle ranch, watch a horseshoeing demonstration and much more.

Video Production Learn basic functions required to create a video production. Learn basic digital video camera operation and techniques. Learn basic video editing and compilation techniques.

Violin 1 This class will introduce students to the art of playing the violin. Students will learn how to hold the violin and the bow, start learning how to read music, and commence working through Suzuki Book #1. *The minimum practice requirement is one-half hour per day. Students can expect to have their first performance experience at the Spring Concert. Suzuki and books will be provided, but please bring an instrument, a shoulder-rest, and a desire to learn!

Violin 2 *Teacher permission or previous enrollment is required for admission to this class.This class will continue the process started in Beginning Violin. We will focus on proper violin technique, read music, and keep working our way through Suzuki Book #1. *Our minimum practice requirement is one-half hour per day. Students can expect to perform at the Christmas and Spring concerts. As before, music and books will be provided, but please bring an instrument, shoulder-rest, and a desire to learn.

Violin 3 *Teacher permission or previous enrollment is required for admission to this class.This class is for students who have taken Violin 2. We will be playing more ensemble pieces as well as more solo pieces. The class is designed to prepare students for Violin Ensemble. Music will be provided, but please bring an instrument, a shoulder-rest and a desire to learn.

Violin Ensemble In this class students will focus on honing their violin skills. (Playing in tune, utilizing correct posture and position, note reading, and basic theory). Also, students will learn to play up to

Volleyball (Recreational) Volleyball will offer fundamentals in passing, setting, hitting, serving, rotations, positions, blocking, offense and defense. Ball handling is essential to developing these skills and time will be spent doing this. This is a co-ed class

Warriors of the World Through activities that will include acting out battles we will learn about Samurai warriors, the Amazon warriors, Greek warriors and Native American warriors. There will be activities and presentations, as well as guest speakers.

Washington State History (Grosser) Get this requirement out of the way by doing it as a group. We will use the textbook approach to learn about this great state of ours. From Native Americans to the current election controversies, we will look at it all. *Homework is required for this class.

Washington State History (Christenson) Learn about the state of Washington in a hands on interactive fast paced class. **Homework is required.

Watercolor Watercolor painting is a fun and fascinating way to express yourself or tell a story. Many people struggle with the techniques needed to pull this medium together into a nice painting. We will be learning many of these techniques in a fun and informative class. Watercolor Painting Techniques will cover: Drawing Techniques as well as painting wet on wet and dry on wet. The student will learn fine detail in painting and balance in space and color. We will also learn to paint with special effects such as use of liquid masks and salt, sponges and plastic wrap. Special emphasis on landscapes and seascapes, choosing subjects of interest and painting animals and people.

Wild West Learn about our Wild West heroes and outlaws with hands-on activities. Build a western town, learn to fast draw, discover what life was like for the kids of the Wild West.

Wilderness Survival We will take an extremely limited peek into surviving a woodlands situation, should circumstances change for the worst. This class will "briefly" examine several various methods to establish direction, build a useful fire, set up a shelter, and signal for help. Students will be exposed to knives, knife sharpening, ropes and knots. Discussion of elementary first aid procedures will take place.

Wildlife Habitats We will be learning about our wildlife and their habitats. We will do cool projects with a lot of hands on activities.

Wings Let's go fly these special paper airplanes that are WWII replicas as we learn the basic principles of flight.

Wood/Metal Shop Learn how to use power tools safely. Class will do a wood and metal project. This class is at the High School shop.

Woodworking (Mr. McCummins)Come and learn how to use hand tools and build some great projects.

Woodworking When the electricity is off you can still build beautiful wood projects using hand tools. Students will be introduced to basic woodworking tools, their functions, care and safe use. Fun projects will help students develop skills using hand tools and learn different ways that wood can be joined together.

Word Processing (9-12) A class for those students who want to excel in school and the workforce! We will learn about using page setup, formatting text, pictures, charts and much more. Applying for a job? Learn the proper format for writing resumes and formal letters. Going on to college? We'll work with bibliographies, report title pages, fliers, and more.

World History Students will survey world history from ancient times to modern times. Students learn how ancient times have made contributions to the world of today. We will start with the five world empires and proceed to present. Class will include lecture, reading, individual and group research, along with class discussion.

Write with the Best Writing effectively is imperative in high school and college. Using classical literature as models of excellent writing, students will learn the needed skills to be a good writer. They will learn the 6 traits of writing, how to write descriptive paragraphs and short stories and how to proofread and analyze stories. Students will showcase their works at an Authors Corner at the end of each semester.

Writing With a Purpose Learn how to get past that blank piece of paper and put down what your are thinking!!Academic credit can be given upon completion of assignments and permission from both teacher and consultant.
