Community Treatment Solutions has had another exceptional year. We were able to serve more children and families than the year before and our data shows our continued excellent client outcomes across all of our programs (to see our data report, please refer to our website, www.ctsnj.org). As always, we are true to our mission to provide services that build a foundation for healing, growth and successes for children and families. Our services will empower children and families to use their strengths to overcome obstacles so they can lead their lives with confidence, competence and hope.
One such individual is former client Michael, now 26, who has said that he would not be alive without CTS. Michael came to us when he was nine years old, having failed in 11 foster homes. He told us that from age 4-6, he and his sister were left alone for weeks at a time, often being forced to forage in the neighborhood for food. His father sexually abused his sister. His mother put out cigarettes on his arms. When he began to resist, his parents locked him in a closet and fed him through a hole in the door. He stayed in that closet until a neighbor became concerned that she hadn’t seen Michael in six months and contacted the authorities, which led to his being placed in the foster home system and, eventually, to us. Like all of the youth in our care, Michael received treatment for his trauma, combined with opportunities such as art and music classes, fishing trips and life skills classes. But, like all of the youth in our care, Michael’s successes belonged to him. Today, he is an employee of CTS! He says that he wants to give back to youth like himself.
CTS continues to be an employer of choice and in fact, was recognized this past year with a Delaware Valley Top Workplaces award, provided by the Philadelphia Inquirer, and was also recognized as one of South Jersey’s Best Places to Work by South Jersey Biz magazine. We are proud of our accomplishments but we recognize that they are not achieved without the support of our Board of Trustees, in partnership with our donors and stakeholders, and our committed, talented and energetic employees. It is our clients that inspire and motivate us and it is people like you, who provide the support we need, to be able to make a contribution to the well-being of traumatized youth.
Thank you for your continued support!
Best regards,
Susan C. Buchwald
