Cyclist Mirror Signal-Pole Bracket

Ritherdon & Co have been working with Transport for London (TfL) to provide better visibility at London’s junctions, with the aim of

improving safety for cyclists in the city roads and reducing fatalities

There have been recent increases in cyclist fatalities as reported by the Department for Transport (DfT) and potentially explained by the increase in cyclist traffic. According to the DfT, daily cycle trips in London have risen by 150% since 2000.TfL have been looking for different ways of improving cyclist safety in the capital and one such method is to provide mirrors at signalised junctions where approaching cyclists can find themselves in drivers’ blind spots. The big danger comes when a large vehicle sets off from traffic lights and cuts in front of a cyclist that was not visible in the vehicles own mirrors. The signal-mounted mirror is intended to provide an extra view down the side of the vehicle.

Benefits of the Cyclist Mirror Signal-Pole Bracket

• Provide motorists with increased visibility of up-and-coming cyclists

• Attaches to any existing fixed traffic signal pole(s)

• 180 degree adjustment horizontally and vertically

• Potential to reduce cyclist casualties and fatalities

Cyclist Mirror Signal-Pole BracketRitherdon & Co manufactured 200 brackets for TfL designed to attach the mirrors to existing signal poles at junctions. The brackets are highly adjustable for length and for angle, with almost 180 degrees of movement horizontally and vertically, which means that the mirror positioning can be optimised for each site. The 200 cyclist mirrors and brackets are being used by Transport for London on a set of trial sites around London identified as having the potential for dangerous conflict between HGVs and cyclists. These trials are ongoing.
