Chris Richardson – Headteacher, The Kings of Wessex Academy, Cheddar

Maurice is an outstanding professional who is highly skilled in delivering school improvement work. His insight and understanding enable him to assess situations quickly and to work alongside colleagues in addressing them. His work with us this year has included middle leader coaching, which has been highly effective in supporting individual and team development.

Alongside working with individuals, Maurice has also carried out a number of whole school reviews across our multi-academy trust. This has included reviews of SEND and Pupil Premium that have been both thorough and extremely insightful. The quality of this work was praised by HMI in a recent monitoring visit, which recognised how useful the exercises and reports had been. The style of whole school review that Maurice conducts is particularly helpful as it incorporates an element of leadership coaching into a robust and rigorous process of observation and analysis.

The Trust Board has also benefitted from Maurice’s support in carrying out the Chief Executive’s appraisal. His experience and insight provide invaluable support, ensuring the process achieves a good balance between support and challenge.

Without exception, the quality of work that Maurice has provided for our trust has been excellent and we would recommend him to other schools and academies without hesitation.

Andrea Arlidge – CEO, Wellsway Multi-Academy Trust

Maurice has been central to the improvements and developments that have been made at Dyson Perrins C of E Academy during my first year of Headship. During Maurice’s first visit in October 2013 he was part of a team who conducted a rigorous and thorough review of all aspects of my school giving me much to consider and implement but all carried out with sensitivity and professionalism.

The insight he provides from his recent and considerable experience of successfully leading an outstanding school has proved to be invaluable and not only helped me but colleagues on my SLT to

develop. Maurice’s judgements and views are all the more credible because of his own leadership profile yet he also has considerable knowledge and understanding of the framework for school inspection. He can equally provide an objective opinion or pinpoint a priority area for development. That we are making considerable progress is due in no small part to Maurice and the consultative work that he has carried out at Dyson Perrins.

I look forward to working with him in the future as we continue our improvement journey.

Stuart Wetson – Headteacher, Dyson Perrins C of E Academy, Malvern

Working with Maurice has provided my staff with the confidence to take ownership of their learning environment and improve the standard of their delivery to students. He has worked extensively with my middle-leaders to help them understand how they can hold their colleagues to account and monitor their areas of responsibility successfully. Through his vast experience of headship, Maurice understands the challenges that staff face in an Academy like Broadlands, where the focus has been on driving up standards. His advice has been well received and his thoughtful and individualised approach has ensured that staff have been prepared to try new things and reflect upon their practice. He has also helped us to create links with other schools and Academies to share best practice. As a new Principal, his non-intrusive method of support has been well matched to my needs and I have been able to talk through ideas and initiatives, gaining from his experience. The biggest impact has been on the capacity that he has added to my Senior Team by working with middle-leaders to help us raise standards.
