Other items not accepted: glass, haz- ardous waste, plastic bags and overwrap, dishes & cookware, paint, form packaging, garden hoses, scrap metal & toys. TNRD can charge a penalty of $50 per metric tonne for contaminated loads. These penalties could result in an in- crease to garbage fees for residents. Fatal accident on Coq RCMP responded along with Merritt Fire Rescue & BC Ambulance to a fatal ac- cident on the Coquihalla Highway near the Juliet Creek exit, around 1am on Oct. 28. Tnvestigators confirmed that a north- bound Volvo was driving in the wrong lane when it crashed into a southbound tractor trailer unit that was overtaking another commercial vehicle. "The commercial vehicle that was being overtaken went off road right and man- aged to stay upright," Central Interior Traf- fic Services Sgt Mike Pears said in the press release. "The tractor trailer unit that was passing although trying to avoid the colli- sion with the car was not able to, and the car impacted the front of the tractor unit which resulted in the death of the driver who was the lone occupant of the (Volvo)." The drivers of the commercial vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the tractor unit of the vehicle which was struck head-on, caught on fire. RCMP believe the victim is from the Lower Mainland area. Investigators are looking at alcohol as a factor and say that the roads and weather were good. It is not known why the driver of the car was traveling the wrong way on the Coquihalla Highway. Police are looking for anyone who has not already spoken to the police who saw a grey Volvo sta- tion wagon travelling from Hope to Juli- ette Creek between 10pm on Oct. 27 to approx. 1am.
