Visitor Ctre to closeAfter a couple years of rumours, the

provincial government announced that itwill close the Visitor Centre at Exit 286,the junction of the Coquihalla & the Con-nector when the Destination BC contractexpires on January 12, 2018.

Mayor Menard has confirmed thatlocal visitor services will be solely pro-vided by the City of Merritt out of theBaillie House.

Destination BC is evidently workingon a proposal in conjunction with theCity & Baillie House, though there isnothing concrete as yet.

Last fall, the gov’t announced the de-velopment of a new rest area at LoonLake interchange on Highway 97C (theConnector). The plans are for it to sup-port the potential future development ofservices and upgrades such as car charg-ing stations and WiFi.
