Use this lesson to help students learn how to shape the lower case letters i, u, w, t, j, p r, s, and o correctly using the visual of a kite string as a guide.

Start at the writing line make a line like the string of a kite.

Come back down the line slightly. Start going out to make the connector.

Dots would look like this.

Start at the writing line make a line like the string of a kite just like the letter i - come back down.

Now we need to make another string to the second kite. It's almost like makingtwo letter i's joined together without the dots!

Dots would look like this.

Start at the writing line make a line like the string of a kite just like the letter i - come back down.

Now we need to make another string to the second kite. We now have the letter u... we have one last step to make.

Making the 3rd kite string - will give us the letter w.

1. Letter t starts at the bottom and goes all the way up to the top. Don't forget to make a small slant.

2. Come all the way back down and make a small tent. Don't forget to make your connector

3. Last step - cross your t at the middle line.

1. Start at the bottom line and make a kite string to the middle line.

2. Making a small tent go straight down this part is a digger.

3. Make a small loop that goes to the left. Don't forget to dot your j.

1. Start at the bottom line and make a kite string to the middle line.

2. Make a straight line down, this is a digger.

3. Come straight back up the same line.

4. Make a round ball make sure the top touches the middle and the bottom touches the bottom line.

5. Last, but not least, don't forget to make the connector.

1. Start at the bottom line and make a kite string to the middle line.

2. Make a short angled line so that you get a very small tent near the top.

3. From the bottom of this new tent make an arc that looks a bit like the bottom half of a letter c.

1. Start at the bottom line and make a kite string to the middle line.

2. From the middle line you must make a curved line down that touches the bottom line and comes back up very slightly to touch the kite string.

3. Follow that line back out and extend (make it longer) to make the connector for the next letter.

1. Start at the bottom line and make a kite string to the middle line pay attention to this one, the kite string curves a bit more!

2. This now starts looking like a clock climber. Follow the kite string down and the back up and around.

3. Make a small connector from the top.
