AudienceThis document is intended for system engineers and those responsible for software/hardware upgrades. Users of this document should have experience with Cornerstone Voice command interfaces, including an understanding of basic UNIX commands.

Executive summaryThis load release contains the new firmware load CVPMVL16AQ01 for the MVP. This new firmware load is the only update from CS04.1 IS to CSV04.1 IS1.

Terms and symbolsDetailed below are some useful definitions of terms and symbols used throughout this document.

The terms “NE” (Network Element) and “HDT” (Host Digital Terminal) are used interchangeably throughout this document. Both refer to one standard Cornerstone Voice modem shelf/ABM shelf pair. The terms “NE” and “HDT” are not to be confused with “OPC” (Operations Controller), which refers to the Unix-based control unit which may or may not reside on a given Cornerstone Voice ABM shelf.

The word “move” when used in the appropriate context (for example, in a procedure step involving the OPC or NE user interface) indicates that you should use the left, right, up, or down arrow keys to access the portion of the Character Mode Terminal (CMT) VT-100 screen required by the step being performed.

The word “type” indicates that all characters in a specified command should be entered.

The word “press” indicates that all characters in the specified key-stroke should be pressed in a certain order (for example, {Ctrl_T /} requires you to press the Ctrl and T keys simultaneously, and then press the / key.

The symbols ø or <return> indicate that you should press the carriage return key on your terminal’s keyboard.

The phrase “tab to” indicates that you should press the tab key on your terminal keyboard as many times as required to access the appropriate area of the CMT screen required by the step being performed.

Warning and Caution notes will appear throughout the document to advise you of consequences or results of certain actions that should be performed or avoided.

Chapter 1:Introduction

Field of applicationThis CAP contains the procedures necessary in order to upgrade a Spain Host Digital Terminal (HDT) with a CSV04.1 IS release loads to CSV04.1 IS1 release loads.

Effects of serviceIf there are no MVPs deployed in the network served by the HDT, there should not be any service interruption during the upgrade. Therefore the upgrade can be perform outside the maintenance window.

RequirementsUsing checkvp pec command verify that there are no MVPs deployed in the network served by the HDT.

Time RequirementThis upgrade can be performed within about 15 minutes or less per HDT.

Technical Expertise RequirementThis CAP assumes that the person performing the upgrade is familiar with the Cornerstone system and its user interfaces, including basic UNIX commands. If the person cannot successfully complete this CAP, contact your next level of Cornerstone support.

Document SequenceFollow the steps in the following chapters in the order shown, using the timeline(s) presented below as a scheduling and completion guide. Read each procedure from start to finish before performing it. See Appendix A for information on the hardware and/or software affected by the CAP.

Surely we should do a backup of the existing load before we start? It doesn’t mention this…….Chris

Chapter 2:HDT Upgrade Procedure 2-1Transferring the MVP load from tape to OPC

All steps, including those involving the backup OPC, should be performed via a login session to the primary OPC.

Step Action and response Est. Time

[ ] 1. Insert the CSV04.1 IS1 software upgrade tape in the Primary OPC tape drive.

1 minute

[ ] 2. Open the NE Software Delivery Mngr tool and select the Primary OPC. Then query the loads on tape. Select the MVP load CVPMVL16AQ01 and transfer it to the OPC. Then select CVSWLD file and transfer it to the OPC.

2 minutes

[ ] 3. If a backup OPC exists, perform step 2 again but this time on the backup OPC..

Note: You will not be able to verify the presence of the loads on the Backup OPC because it is inactive.

2 minutes

[ ] 4. Once the transfer is complete remove the tape from the OPC tape drive. Verify the presence of the CSV load CVPMVL16AQ01 and CVSWLD file on the disk by entering the following commands at the OPC prompt:

opc>cd /users/VFS/users/csvopc>ll

CVPMVL16AQ01 and CVSWLD should appear in the list.

1 minute

[ ] 5. Display the contents of the CVSWLD.load file by entering the following command:

opc>more CVSWLD.loadThe following information should be displayed:
