Brief IntroductionFormer name: Madusudan.Born in 1956 in Nagercoil, India. He completed his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT-Mumbai in the year 1980. He became interested in the books of Srila Prabhupada, the founder-acharya of ISKCON.

ContinuedWhile he was doing his M.Tech course in IIT-Mumbai in 1981, he decided to dedicate himself to the service of Lord Krishna by becoming a full-time missionary member of ISKCON.He was soon made the President of ISKCON, Trivandrum. In 1983.

Akshay Patra Madhu Pandit Das initiated the Akshaya Patra program to provide mid-day meals to underprivileged children in the Government schools of Bangalore Rural District during July 2000.

CONDITION OF OUR NATION26.8 million children in India are not attending school (UNICEF). Of those, 13.5 milllion are betweenthe ages of 6 and 13 (UNICEF). Many come from impoverished families that struggle to earn the basic necessities 40% of children in India drop out of school before reaching grade 5 (UNICEF).

Continued . . . 60% of children who dropped out cited the need to supplement family income through household chores or domestic work as the reason for the leaving school. 30% cited the need to work to earn money (USAID).Male literacy rates are only 73.4% (CIA World Factbook).Female literacy rates are only 47.8% (CIA World Factbook).Female illiteracy rates have been directly linked to poor nutrition and education in their children (World Food Bank).

Akshay PatraThe Akshaya Patra Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation headquartered in Bangalore, India.Mission: to feed over 5 million children by 2020The organisation strives to fight issues like hunger and malnutrition in India, by implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the Government schools and Government aided schools.

SOME PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS THE COMMUNICATOR AWARD: The award is given to honour the best practices in various categories like advertising, corporate communications, public relations and identity work for Print, Video, Interactive and Audio.INDIZEN 2014 AWARD: In the recently conducted Indizen 2014- 5th National Convention on Operational Excellence by Kaizen Institute of India (KII), The Akshaya Patra Foundation won the award in the category of 'Continued Commitment to Operational Excellence'.

Continued . . .The League of American Communications Professionals (LACP), in their Annual Report Competition, the 2012/13 Vision Awards, have awarded The Akshaya Patra Foundation with the Gold Award for excellence within its industry in the development of the organisations annual report within the last fiscal year.

This was first heard as the award for Excellence in Financial Reporting was announced for the financial year 2008-09. It was a moment of realisation for the organisation and the benchmark was set.
